Title: Anniversary Mystic Blue
Post by: sharki786 on 01 March 2011, 17:07
Hi,

This is my 1st car that i ever got (was originaly thinking of getting a 1.4 civic but my mate got me out of it) the the insurance on this is only £100 more so i got it in june 2007. fell in love with it and married it at the registery office. it needed quiet a few things doing to it. after i got it the next day i replaced it with a breather hose (£15 from dealer). then clutch (as that was on its way), i found out that my exhaust baffles where kapoot so i got a powerflow exhaust

I then got some jom coilovers (my unc fitted them on after he spent a night at work (thank you chach  )

Before:

After:

I have done the dials red and the heater controls red too. the window switches are red too

This car has made me feel proud ALOT of times

so the story continues
as you guys are aware i had the engine jet washed and then saw the rocker cover and decided to get it sorted.

This was the jet wash:

So after seeing everyone upload pics of their cars i thought why not as i always felt down when i lifted the bonnet on my car (no not because its an nippy 8v GTI)   anyway as my mate cleaned my engine bay out with GUNK and some Alloy Wheel Cleaner i thought id take pics. all Thanks to him, as i didnt have the balls to do the jet wash and he has experiance in cleaning them. so here are the results sorry i didnt take before pics of the engine bay only when he started to spray the GUNK Degreeser on the engine.

this is what it looked like after the gunk sprayed

bit of an fu*ked update. yesterday i floored the car **BANG** then started to sound like a bag was trapped under car. thought it was drive shaft that snapped called my mate abdul out today morning. we took car just up the road and the probs started. parked up home and a streamline of oil on floor mate goes prob the gearbox seal. we followed the stream and found the 5th gear (i think) shattered in 3 pieces and the box casing. this same prob happened to a relative of mine with the agg engine. so now im in a dilemma!! gearbox or vr6??   but thing is the vr6 is too much and i dont have that budget.

How much thing weighs its in Kgs:

Compared to the new one:

hi all.

major update.

sprayed the gbox and fitted it with new clutch light weight flywheel
then started it up and there was this crazy constant screeching noise like the starter motor was stuck on flywheel. after reving it (we did turn car off and then back again but was baffled to what that noise could have been) so after revving it there was a bang and the screeching noise stopped, now it only screeches on startup, then came to drive it (made a vid btw just need to upload it)the biting point was level to the brake and i could feel the clutch slipping  :undecided: so decided to ring hotgolf of cgti (my mate said his a diamond) so after talking with hotgolf, he said that the clutch cable has got short (my fault) and the starter is sticking so will get back tonights to abduls and have a play. abdul cleaned the oil pump out and now the engine is alot quiter and the manifold is better (less blowing) so cant realy say how quick the car is after fitting the flywheel as the clutch keeps slipping. i remember how to unlock the cable after it had been locked but this is not fully releasing.

would help if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Post by: sharki786 on 20 May 2011, 11:48
its a b@astard to do. mad4vw's did mine for me, as the gearbox was fooked. so he took it off and then released all the mounts and then pulled the engine forward that is the only way that will be easier. also buy the bolts from dealers or TPS (trade parts specialist) dont get the bolts and nuts from gsf as you wont be happy with the wasted time. as youe manifold or downpipe will be blowing. the car is alot more responsive now!  got to let the clutch ware in 1st before some serious lead foot is applied lol

once the cables go then they go, I haven't read your whole thread but if there were any issues relating to the clutch then it is possible that the cable has got itself into a pickle...

you're best off replacing it.. only about 30 notes iirc and its fairly straightforward to do

total figure for the parts and GB and labour and bits and bobs come to a WACKING £360 not bad, thats including GB, Lightened Flywheel, gaskets, Bolts & nuts, Sprays and labour. i would defo recommend Mad4VW's for any labour as he is VERY cheap and does QUALITY WORK!!!

MOT exipred yesterday had it booked in for today passed no probs  well chuffed with that. he also said that the emissions flew through but he did advise on the brake pipes.

so just wanted to know wheres the best place to get the brake pipes from? also how much will i be looking at?

bit of an update, seeing as though the rear door on drivers side had some wires cut in the loom (common  ) i though i might aswel make a start, which i did and it was a right pain in the a55 to take the loom out after 5mins of fighting with it, it finaly came out. i soldered some new wires in and taped them up. while i was doing that i noticed that the rear tweeter needed replacing, as i already had some power acoustik tweeters in the back i thought id take them out and put them into where the standard 1's were, il let the pitchers to the talking

This is what it looks like:

Removed the old tweeters out and took the grill out, then smoothed the edging out and began to trial fit:

when i was happy with the position:

fitted them bushes sorry no pics, was a DODDLE! piece of piss. my couine helped me out and had a ramp and all the farking tools. the car is alot softer on the front but my cousine said after a few hundred miles and it will be settled. the old bushes had wv & audi stampped on them, and they were solid and had cracks on them and when i took them out they were at an angle. But im liking the ride now. knocking is still there. i wanted to know if i can get uprated drop links and uprated lower ball joints. will get pics of the battered bushes tommorow.

also i fitted some new LED's in the interior map light and in the rear lights from a mk4 that i had sprayed black.

Great work, love the headlining and interior/map lights....

however..

IMO I don't think the red goes well inside the car, seatbelts should be black and the heater lights etc should be blue/white or if you can get them purple.

as for the wheels I like them the way they are

Jeez those wheels were in a state, be good to see them looking all fresh and spangly again.

tell me about it. everyone was saying "sharki you need to sort your wheels out, they are letting the car down!" so off they went.

minor update, fitted ONE leather door card (front pas) well it took me all day as i got stuck. after pulling the half of the car apart (found a wire chopped for the alarm) so tried to sort that out while trying to find the best feed for the door card ligh, at the end connected it to the window motor (red/white & brown/white) (this is on the pas side) as that had cocstant power and worked with the switch. will upload pics.
yesterday i picked up a mate of mine (ozzie bizzle) and he was like WTF its like you have a spot light in here (LED's that i got of him) was funny seeing his face.

anyway will be uploading a pic of the door card and some more of the wheels (when i get some)

bit of an OLD update.

decided to take the drivers seat out and fix it up as it was f*cked!! both bolsters on the drivers was mashup (top & bottom)

anyway i got an anniversary pasangers seat from a guy that breaks mk3's
stripped it down

gave it a quick rinse:

reinforced the bolsters:

added some padding (foam)

fitted it in took ages as i had to wire the light. also as mentioned before, the boot sensor wire for the alarm was cut so had to reroute it down the drivers side, now all working

door card light all hooked up and working as it should be. (thanks kells for the help!!)

piece of p1ss.

well atm i have only the passangers door card on. i connected my door card light wires to the window motor loom, look for the brown/white wire, which is the negative. red/white which is the possitive. conntect the pos to pos & neg to neg. make sure all other doors are closed and press n release the door switch light should come on when the switch isnt pressed and off when pressed. thats all i can tell you for now as i still aint had a look at the drivers yet, but when i do i will make a note of which wire to splice into.

no they aint unless you have a highline. i tapped into the wire that goes to the elec window motor. i basicly stripped the wire back abit and connected to it if you see what i mean. (burned abit of the wire and peeled it back to expose the wire)

Get the tape measure out and see the distance between wheel and arch. Thats the size spacer you need, or if you fancy rolling your arches, or putting a bit of camber on then you can go nuts!   I reckon about 15mm by eye.

baning sean, you was right! Got the tape out and its about just under 20mm with 215.40.16 tyres, so 15mm it will be. Anyone got any links? Might put 20mm spacers on but with a touch of camber on see how it looks. Whats the tyre wear like if there is a tiny camber with 1 washer??

Sorry for slow updates. Just busy working hard. Anyway i recieved a centre console/arm rest from the states. Was missing the gaitor clip and the handbrake plastic cover. I ordered a new hand brake leather gaitor and gear stick gaitor keeping the oem anni look (black leather with red stiches) had them stored away for ages. Anyway i recieved the clip yesterday.
Stripped the gaitor down that arrived from states (was in a bad state, ripped and worn)

Will add pics in a few mins

New gaitor waiting to go on

The clip that clips into the console (you cant use any clip as the highline one is larger)

The bits that go into the gaitor.

The front of it. Had to shave abit of the leather of as the clip wouldnt stay in play (over lapping of the leather)

It not that hard is it? What kind of staples did you use to keep the gaitor on mate?

The staples i had were too flimsy so i ended up using some short panel pins and contact adhesive  we had in the workshop.

So decided to have a go at getting the gaitor onto the clip. Got some spray glue and sprayed it into a yogurt tub (fail), used a cotton ear bud to apply it to the leather and plastic clip

Took my time and gently pressed the leather to the plastic and finished it

Just need to make tiny holes all the way around and sew some thread through it to make it stronger.

Fitted it to the console and looks very high, compared it to the old one and looks exactly same.

Will upload pics of when i have it fitted in the car and also need to get the front cup holders in
& fit plates and surrounds
