Right,
Picked the Golf up on Friday night, all shiny and clean :) Garage did a real nice job of cleaning her up.
So this is the start of my progress thread, there have been a few ideas in the pipeline, one would be standard bumpers with the Votex kit on, then decided I wanted GTD bumpers but have now settled on this, Front 'R' bumper, 'R' sideskirts, GTI spoiler and GTI rear bumper or standard bumper with Votex lip. The main reason I don't want the full 'R' kit is, my car is a diesel, and I respect that, I don't want two big, chrome tailpipes stuck out the back, in the middle and for me to start it up, and sound like a tractor. Plus I don't have front foglights anyway, so I could just wire the DRL's to a switch or to the existing DRL's.
This is how she stands at the minute. I get a day off tomorrow so that will see, the rear being de-badged, my H7R Hids being fitted and also possibly rear OEM tints.
I'm a big believer in giving back what you receive, so, due to all the help I've had, I will post an in-depth guide on how to wire and fit the HIDS with photos. I've received a lot of help and support ever since joining this forum and have you all to thank for it.
I have posted already what the mods are to be done, and I'm not saying they will get done quickly, but my main ones are the wheels, instead of going for the Vancouvers like originally planned, I'll be going for the 19" 'R' wheels to suit the overall look I'm aiming for. I don't want to make my car look like some 'wonna be' but something that will stand out from the crowd, a little like this.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2009-VW-MK6-Golf-R-TSI-Replica-GTI-R20-R32-Conversion-/140514595012?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item20b75290c4#ht_3994wt_1141 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2009-VW-MK6-Golf-R-TSI-Replica-GTI-R20-R32-Conversion-/140514595012?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item20b75290c4#ht_3994wt_1141)
That, to me, resembles the exact modified car I'm aiming for.
I will update this thread with pictures and any small or large mod I do over time. I want to get the exterior done first and then focus on the interior which some of my mods will require help from others and VCDS (Doc :P)
Thanks for reading, and the support guys!

Car looks great in sexy black
I was searching for a set of those wheels for our works caddy for ages, ended up settling for sport line caddy wheels
If you need help tomorrow just shout as I'll be about in work all day.

Close enough :) Will do mate, thanks for your help. Really appreciate it :)

WOW
Now your putting ideas in my head for my GT TSi  But should look pretty sweet when done.
If only VWUK allowed us to spec the R-Line package like you can order in Germany!
Heres mine as it stands - so far only mod is adding RNS510
(http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb366/jamojdm/photo4.jpg)

Some good ideas there DRC.
Be very careful re insurance though. Declare everything - it's not worth it otherwise.
-
GTD bumbers and grille have been asked about on http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14461 its a pitty you can't get ETKA working.
If you want just chrome tails pipes on the standard system they do them.
Oh we do have a TDI section on here?
-
Keith, can you actually buy the chrome tailpipes from VW on there own?
I was affraid I was gonna have to buy a new system, or even worse, Halfords tailpipe trims :(
-
Well, HIDS were fitted, cut and scraped hands etc, turned them on with the ignition and worked fine, looked pretty sweet :) then with the engine on, the rightside keeps going out. Tried the bulb error cancellors and nothing? No idea how I'll get round but either way, my car is going in tomorrow to have the clutch looked at and it's oil sprung an oil leak :( Not giving much faith so far!

Your car looks sweet.
Danny, you are quite a speedy modder. How you've got so much courage simply astonishes me. Oh, the joys and energy of youth. Distant memories.
Best of luck tomorrow at the dealers.

VW do an R-line rear bumper which is the same as the R, except the diffuser fits the standard exhaust. Pic here (http://www.volkswagen.de/de/models/golf/highlights.html#/flash=687bd97f6b981ed0beb5bb541520f6ef@R-Line)
-
Yeah, I like to get things done asap, things that are cheap anyway :P haha
Window tints are booked in for Saturday :) Gonna have a go a de-badging this afternoon.
I'm really pi**ed about the oil leak, anyone with a derv, the bottom left handside as you look at the engine, there is a can with 4 pipes on it with a silver top, is this the oil pump? As that's where the oil is coming from. There is alot of oil under there so how it wasn't spotted I have no idea!
That R-line bumper is very nice! But where to get one from?
-
Going to order some new warning cancellers see if that resolves the HID issues, too cold to be messing about now, I'll still post the write up of it soon though.
Anyone know what the part that's leaking is? Doc, you must have it on on your derv?
-
To add to the last post, I've also being looking at the relay harness you can buy now.
Basically, Red and Black wire for your battery terminals, two runs of cable to go to your HID ballast and then one plug for a H7 socket, I'd need to cut the end off as I don't have a H7 socket and wire directly, my question is, if the car still doesn't see there being a bulb there, isn't it just gonna cut the power telling the relay to be open which will then switch the relay to a closed position? Or am I being naive as to how relays work?
-

I was affraid I was gonna have to buy a new system, or even worse, Halfords tailpipe trims :(
Well Dan there are different tail pipes I've seen on TDI's some have the twin tail pipe and some have a single pipe that you can't see because its under the rear skirt and they have no cut out for the pipes in the skirt.
If you have 2 external pipes then you can fit the chrome tail pieces. Now some have fitted the pipes of a Skoda Yeti (http://www.accessories.skoda.co.uk/productdetail.aspx?p_no=5L0071910) but those are 50mm, VW and Audi are 60mm thats why the Audi pipes are supposed to fit.
VAG do twin pipes for the Audi - 8P0 071 761 - £57.19
This has been talked about on many forums. There is a 9 page thread on Exhaust Trim (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=75235) but you have to join before you can read it.
Audi A3 New Shape Stainless Steel Exhaust Trim Set (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330303786048&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:GB:1123#ht_500wt_956)
-
Hi DRC,
I've fitted the Skoda Yeti exhaust tips on my GT TDI - they look good and are great value - less than £25 if I remember correctly. Simple to bash em on too.
-
Dunc, can you order these from any VAG dealer?
Part numbers at all?
The Audi ones are nearly £60 :O
-
Ordered the relay harness for my HIDS so that should be here.
Saturday see's another day of modding :)
Decided on the Yeti tips, gonna ask my VW dealer tomorrow if they can order them for me :)
I hope I have the car back before the weekend, 4 days with it, god knows how many without, but hopefully saturday see's: rear window tints, de-badged, chrome tail pipe trims and HIDS :)
-

Hi DRC;
I'll send you an email with a piccie of the fitting instructions in (as I've forgotten how to post pics :o) ) - that has the part number on it. ALthough Keith's post above refers to Skoda pipes being a smaller diameter - I don't know about that; but for me (on my 2009 GT TDI 140) the Yeti ones were an exact fit on there. Took me less than 10 mins to do this 'mod.'
Re the 'oil leak' from your description it sounds like you may be talking about the fuel filter (apologies if insulting your intelligence though). If it is leaking diesel from here I'd not drive it too much and get that sorted pronto - don't really want fuel on your belts / your tyres etc or on the road.
dunc.
-
Hey DRC; didi you see this on the bay?
For some reason I thought of you..
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-MK-6-R20-R-R32-GTD-BUMPERS-SPOILER-EXHAUST-/270707083486?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f076648de
-
Thanks for the email dunc :)
I'll be ordering the yeti pipes :)
It's oil for sure, its not diesel, its thick and smells of oil, it just drips out the bottom :( I'll request for the garage to clean the area aswell :)
-
Tried the bulb error cancellers
Read this warning: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=165998.430
If you have the plastic ones bin them, the metallic ones are the version to go for
Good: http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/100w-resistors-led-fix-for-55w-bulbs-such-as-h1h4h7-p-329.html
Very very bad: http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/hid-led-fixes-leads-sockets/hid-error-fixes/hid-kit-capacitor-obc-fix-p-319.html
-
Leak sounds like it's coming from your fuel filter - not the end of the world
-
Doc, do those 100W resistors work on your HIDS? I've got some 50w resistors and did nothing?
It seems very strange for a fuel leak, as it's oil that's dripping, oil that's all over the chassis, horn, windscreen washer bottle :(
Did you wire them across pos and neg, or just in-line on the positive?
-
Is it just me?
Or is this a bit wrong?
If you want a GTI or R then buy one. Why buy a diesel and then pretend?
I fully understand modding but not sure about this....
-
Leak diagnosis from your description - can you take a photo?
From what Ive read 50w ain't big enough and they should only be used for LED indicators, you need the 100w versions ie double what you think you need, strange but true
They need to be wired pos to neg - they get fecking hot too! - 200 plus oC on the 50w versions! I screwed mine to the bumper bar, note mine are to kid the car that main beam is still there, the xenon's don't have any on them, I'm 75% sure that you wont need them if you use VCDS to program your car for xenons like I have done
-
Wondered how long this would take...
In what way am I pretending? Do you see me wanting to stick 'R' badges on the front and back? No.
So because I like the style of the 'R' and GTI bumpers, I'm automatically pretending?
Yes, at 20 years old, I could of gone out, got myself into £35k's worth of debt, got a car that I couldn't insure, cost a bomb to run and then what? I'm doing this because I want a project, I want something to make myself and call it unique, and be proud of my achievements.

Hi
The oil could be a symptom of someone not putting the dip stick back in properly and it spraying around?
Have you tried cleaning it off and seeing if fresh oil appears? .
Could just be some old issue that was sorted but lazy sods didn't clean up after themselves?
-
Yeah, can see my car like that, thought they all looked brill!.....anyway
Doc, the can with the 4 tubes coming from the top is what's leaking, and then second picture you can see oil on the screw head..

Doc

Your only right, maybe this would make a good one to kick it off with
-
Yup.
I was 21 when I bought my first GTI, I saved for four years for it - it was 5 years old.
The insurance was outrageous but such good memories.
-
I was 18 when I bought my first GTI it was a white A reg MK2 8v with a engineering conversion
Cost about 900 quid to insure that 21 years ago
It's very hard for people under 25 to get any kind of car insurance these days, I feel sorry for them as they are missing out on the fun and adventures we had as young guns with nice motors

Should have bought a mk1 it was a less than half the price to insure back then compared to a mk2  I laffed at every mk2 driver in those times. When insurance went stupid a few years latter for some reason it did not effect mk1's but mk2s went stupid so i laffed even more

Sounds like you've been doing a lot of laughing
I bought an RS500 in moonstone blue (one of 45) for my 21st that cost 2100 quid to insure
Still paying through the nose now
-
Well car went in today, no issues with the clutch.
There was a fuel leak though. The garage did an excellent job, car was done in 3 hours, all leaked fuel was cleaned up and gave the car a quick wash too :)
They pulled all the wiring out that I spent all yesterday on so my drivers side headlamp cluster wasn't working but all sorted now :D gonna order the tips tomorrow and windows are being tinted Saturday :D

Window tints done today, de-badged, and HIDS.
Gave the car a good clean, but to say it was a motorway cruiser before with 40k on it, that paint is in bloody good condition!
The Golf and TDI badges were stuck on a lot firmer then my old Seat badges, the dental floss didn't work and I ran out, so I used a very small electrical flat blade screwdriver with cloth wrapped around it, and Autoglym tar remover, worked a treat :)
All I need now is Vancouver alloys, new bumpers, chrome exhaust and a few interior mods, and that's about it for the first part of the year :) As my original plans will have to wait until I can save some serious cash.
-
Hello to you too!
Sweet.
Goodbye for now.
-
For now? Haha :P

I think its crying out for the darker rear lights of the GT/GTI
-
Tell me about it... :(
Anyone trying to get rid of some? If not I'll have to go down the Lamin-X route :(

Dan: If you wait a couple of weeks, I am sure Snoops will be buying some new rear LEDs, so he'll flog you his probably.
MAW73 has a pair available and Buck will soon have his for sale.
You can make it a buyer's market!!!
-
Looks nice. Good progress in a short time :)
As you say, needs a set of nice alloys and smoked rears to set it off.
-
Thanks for the comments guys :)
Just sifting through the net now to see what other little mods I can get :)
Any recommendations? :P

Yes, those are the darlings. DRC (Dan) is the baby of the forum and he needs mothering.
There you go Dan. You can dust her smoked rears. I'll take 10% for the introduction from the buyer.

DRC - read this  - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=184362.0

Yay if they are smoked that'll be perfect :)
And if they're gathering dust, you won't want too much for them ;) haha
Doc, I'll post up there soon! Seen as I'm the baby of the forum :P haha.

May interest if yours is an SE like my mates.
-
Thanks Snoops, a bit pricey at the minute, but thanks anyway :)
Gonna order some Lamin-X tomorrow for the rear lights, if they look pants, I'll get me some GT/GTI versions, probably Gizzy's :), need to order the chrome tailpipes and white sidelight bulbs too :)
-
Looking good DRC.... how about adding some GTI side skirts. I think they would be a nice edition to you car?
This thread stolen from another forum may be of interest if you've not come along it before
http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1950
-
Thanks MAW :)
Saw it the other week, I like the GTI sideskirts, are the part numbers the same for the 3 and 5 door? Could probably nab my mum's, she wouldn't notice ;)
Anyone good with Photoshop here?
If you are, could you pop some R32 wheels on the picture from the back of my car, really undecided on them, plus they're 19's, more what I'm after?
-
Spoke to VW customer services regarding my missing MDI port, lovely lady said my local dealer will retro fit, free of charge which is a bonus :D also an old school friend works there now so got my yeti pipes ordered at cost price less 5% ;) sorted!
-
The elegant GTI sideskirts cost an arm and a leg.
-
How much we talking Asker?
Do they 'need' to be painted?
-

No painting required, but the last time I checked they were £160 each approximately. :undecided: +
mike. to the rescue, please, for exact prices.

Blimey £160 each for a bit of old plastic. They would look good though on DRC's imo
-
EACH?! Wow! Maybe hold off for a while :p
Dealers are refusing to admit an issue with the MDI port, they can't find anything to prove it wasn't specced with it so I don't really know what their point is, VW customer services are handling the matter :) myself and customer services see the car should have the port and yet it doesn't, I'll keep you all posted.
-
There seems to be two parts to each side
Protective Strip £15.26 +vat
1T0 854 931 B 9B9 Left
1T0 854 932 B 9B9 Right
Side Member Strip £71.03 + vat
5K0 853 855 B 9B9 Left
5K0 853 856 B 9B9 Right
The Golf R ones are over £200+vat each and then need painted
-
So they are about 80 each?
I thought 160 was abit excessive for a piece of moulded plastic? :p
-
That comes to £103.55 each. I am sure I was quoted a bit more, though I must admit £160 is a bit OTT.
-
Depends what the 'protective strip' is :P plus now I know my mate works there, I can get them at cost anyway :)
-
The whole shebang is quite big and goes quite far underneath where it is fixed if I remember correctly. I seldom look underneath the car, but did so about a year ago.
-
The skirt is l-shaped and fits under the car by around 5-7cm and is then simply fastened by around 5 screws (torx fitting IIRC)
It is an expensive piece but fits well adn does add to the appearance/stance of the car so will be worth it
I always work things out in terms of cost per day/week so let's say it is £104 that's nicely £2 per week per side so £4 per week for a year - small price to pay for das kerb appeal ;)
-
Haha! Well that's one way of putting it to the missus!
If they are the same part numbers for the 3 and 5 door, I'm sure I could take them off my mum's car (she won't mind, she told my local tyre fitters she had 16" wheels :P) and I could screw them onto mine?
So on that basis, say £900 for LED Bi-Xenon's is about £17 a week :P haha
Also picked up my Yeti tips today, look easy pesy to fit, will post pictures on Friday :)
-
A mate that works at vw can get the led rear for 170 a side, will they work with my 09 golf? Is that a good price?

Cheap as chips!
I think you might get a bulb warning with an '09 model.

Can he get more than one set ? ;)
Id be interested.
-
I can find out, he needs me to buy them so he can sell me them at cost price :)
I'd have to enquire for you, if I can get them for you, maybe I could have your smoked rears as a good will gesture :D :P haha
-
Adrian: That's £408 inc VAT. But that does not include the connector leads.
A bit of a saving but not worth a smoked rear non LED giveaway.
-
Asker, they're normally 250+ each side, so at cost price, plus 5% does that include vat? As that's knocking nearly 100 off each side, well worth non led rears :p
-

I feel cheated (joking) by my purchase now. How dare you ruin my evening.
I think you are going to become my Stairway to Heaven.

Just spoke to him, that includes vat :) so 170 each plus wiring :)
If that includes VAT @20% then yes thats cheap about 15% cheaper than i have been able to get them at.
-
Haha sorry Asker!
Yup, Yeti tips would of been 28 + vat I paid 21 all in :)
If I worked there myself, I would be doing the same as a guy did from Seat and selling parts to people on the forum, the garage he works for is thriving in business :)
-

I'd have to enquire for you, if I can get them for you, maybe I could have your smoked rears as a good will gesture :D :P haha
Well let's see what the numbers look like - I could returnt he favour by doing you a good deal on my smokers - not sure what they cost new either?
-
Just spoke to him, that includes vat :) so 170 each plus wiring :)
Hang on I'm just catching up with this thread
So it's £340 plus wires for a full LED rear set  Hmmm
Would you be interested in buying my smoked non-LED rears - good price just for you? ;)
-
Yup, I'll confirm tomorrow mate but that's what he said, should be £256 a piece normally, the only thing they don't mark up a lot is body parts, so he can't knock much off the skideskirts for me :(
He can do smoked rears, all 4, for £67 each side brand new :)
-
Hi Danny
It's a shame he can't get the side skirts cheap for you
Let me know when you've got 'firm' prices and we'll talk more
Adrian
-
Ok Adrian, will do :)
I'm toying with the idea of getting them myself aswell, instead of putting in more cash for non-led versions, just don't know if my central electrics will accept them with it being 09?
-
Mines a 59 - late 09 build so should be ok but not sure how I check!? Chassis No.
Can your mate not use your chassis number to help you find out If your electrics are compatible?
[/quote]
-
Hmmm, I guess you could be the tester haha :P
I'd really like the LED versions, look sweet on my mum's GTI :(
-
Can't you 'borrow' one to try it. They swap out pretty quickly - you'd just need the connector(s)?
-
Can you buy the whole connector made up from VW?
And don't they need to be coded in via VCDS due to bulb out warnings?
-
In theory, couldn't I just use the pre-made connectors from my mum's GTI?
I'm gonna have a look tomorrow, you've tempted me! Even if they work and I have to drive with bulb out warning on I'll be happy, but I'm pretty sure the car will cut power to them :(
-
I understand that the connectors are different hence the need to make these new connector leads which have one enc old type and the other end new type?
-
Got the Yeti tips installed today :)
Big improvement for the rear :)
Can't for life of me get the damn sidelight bulbs out!!!!!

-
Great improvement for just a few pounds. Good mod.
-
Thank you gentlemen :)
Adrian, am just finding out on those LED's for you :) I was gonna buy a can of tinting spray for my lights as they're depressing me :( but I resisted :D haha
-
Right, LED rears are £170 a side plus whatever wiring you'll require, but, I have to pay for them myself as he's doing it at staff price for me, and by the time VW have paid for postage etc, they don't really make that much on them therefore it's not something he can do for everyone on here :( So, Adrian, your call matey :)

Snoops, I had a look at mine and my mums wiring and it looks nothing like the guide you posted? The wires for lights go down all the way into the body of the car?
-
Guide? Are we talking front lights, rear, doors im confused.
The harness is different with the new rear LEDs compared to the non led ones its why they use an adaptor.
http://shop.ebay.de/i.html?_nkw=VW+led+adapter+&_cqr=true&_nkwusc=VW+led+adaptors&_rdc=1
I see what you meen. I answered it in the other section for you.

-
Understand now Snoops, thank you :)
My car is July 09 and I think Gizzy's was around the same age and she had no issues? Maybe I'll be that lucky?
-
The other parts i posted above are to make your own Adaptor leads using genuine VW parts rather than buy off ebay but you have to join the wires together.
-
Danny
Your rear is looking really nice now, TBH I really think you need the smoked R LEDs then you'd have some real eye candy going on.
Gizzy
-
Haha sorry Asker!
Yup, Yeti tips would of been 28 + vat I paid 21 all in :)
If I worked there myself, I would be doing the same as a guy did from Seat and selling parts to people on the forum, the garage he works for is thriving in business :)
Have you got the part numbers for these as a mate owns a TDI SE and has been looking for some like these for his.
Thanks
Geoff.
-
Gizzy, I think that'll be the route I go down tbh!
And Geoff, I believe it's 5L0071910, that's the Skoda part number, should be around £30 inc VAT :)
-
Car has developed a new noise, intermittent, sounds like a stone stuck behind the disk and the metal guard?
At first, in all honesty, I thought they was a mouse trying to get out of the engine bay against the firewall, then it comes on quite loud when going round corners from passenger side front wheel, dealer's looking at it on Friday :(
-
Common problem, Just wiggle the plate behind the disc and a stone will fall out and it will be back to normal. Just make sure the disc is not HOT before going near it though
-
Tried that Snoops, nothing came out? Hope its not the bearing or anything :(
-
Sometimes it gets really stuck. Its normally the back ones as theres a lip near the edge of the disc. The stone gets in behind it and rubs on the disc. It took some getting mine out the last time it happened. I had to keep pushing/bending slightly, move car forward/backward until it cleared it.
-
Hmmm, well I'll have another look, if I can't get it sorted, it's in on Friday anyway for a squeaky belt and the wipers banging on the window frame :(
-
Just noticed this thread now!
Loving the car!
Real good work with the lights, very impressed!
Keep up the good work!

Those wheels are immense aren't they? I was eyeing them up myself!
-
Just trying to find somewhere that sells them :(
-
Dan: How did you post your Dubmodder picture? :embarassed:
-
Asker,
Print screen on my Mac, it allows me to crop rather then the whole screen :D

Must of done, but I guess that all depends on the dealers mark up aswell :)
Great mod though, well worth the pennies!
-
http://hartmannwheels.com/vw-wheels
Found them :) wonder if they'll ship to the UK? :P
-
No where in the UK seems to supply those wheels at all, they say on the website that they're a replica, but of what? Have VW ever made any wheels like those?
I think they'd sit perfect on my car once the other mods are done :(
-
Im sure they're a VW wheel, iv seen them before! Unless i just saw something similar
-
Heres a pic of them fitted!

Its a 5 minute job and very easy to do.
-
Yeah make sure they're lined up and use a bit of wood and a hammer :)
-
Got the car back today, trying to change the the auxiliary belt to stop the squeak, possibly due to the fuel that was sprayed everywhere from the fuel filter when it was faulty.
I was out with the technician for about an hour regarding the clutch, he seems to think the clutch itself is fine, but does admit there's a problem, he's going to look at bulletins tomorrow, see if my car needs an ECU update and also get me a 110bhp 2.0TDI in to see if it's the same :) Really helpful chap :)
So wish me look, my wiper was also banging on the side of the window, they've had to order a new wiper mechanism due to the spline not being adjustable? Strange?
-
Dan
Sounds promising
With the wiper arm I'd take another look. Mine near side was resting too high. The car has had a replacement screen and when theyd put the wiper back on the had put it on slightly high.
I removed it and repositioned and it is now spot on.
The splines are very fine toothed and theh could reposition UNLESS the wiper is already at its lowest point when in the off/rest position?
-
I have noticed that my right hand wiper as you face the car is sitting quite high up the window, I believe this was caused by a build up of snow in the winter which stopped the wiper going right down, and it is now unable to bed down in its original place, any advice on how to fix it.
-
Amanda the arm might have bent slightly?
Put your wipers in the cleaning position (engine off then down flick on the wiper stalk). When they are at the vertical position gently push the passenger wiper towards the near side.
This may be all it needs?
-
Guess you could try that, but what if it just bends the passenger wiper arm too? :(
As Adrian said, I'm sure the spline is adjustable, I suspect in my case, they can't be arsed and just ordered the whole thing to make it easier then trying to 'fine tune'?
-
Wiper Blade not going completely down (http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15811)

Next mod;
I'm going to attempt to fit projection lenses into my halogen housing.
Now some may say, just buy the OEM projector lenses, but that'd be too easy :P
It won't happen until May time when am down at my dad's as he has the tools required, I think I'm gonna need about £300 to do it, but it'll be worth it :D
Just seems the only pain is the sealant, too high for ovens temps so I'll have to dremel it :(
-
But then again, speaking to my mate;
Non-LED Bi-Xenons, should be £270 a side, can do them for £190,
LED versions, should be £347 a side, can do them for £232 a side, although there is only one set left of the LED versions before they're on back order, wonder who'll get them??
Having a look at Doc's guide, looks like I can use my existing ballasts :)
-
Got the car back from VW today,
Auxiliary belt replaced so no more chirping from the engine, replaced the offside wiper arm to stop it banging on the window, but the main one;
Soft ware update applied, they said the car has never been updated in it's whole life since new, so there were plenty of updates, took a few hours apparently. They say this has stopped the juddering issue I'm having by changing the mapping slightly, and from what I can see and feel, it may have worked. Will properly test when I'm in Devon next week, nice biiiiggggg hillstart near my dad's house :( :(
-
Well, I've been thinking about the car, and I've decided to treat myself for my 21st this October :)
I'm still going to carry out the mods, should be getting the rear lights done this week as I've got the week off.
But when I'm 21, I'm going to look at the passat r36, a car I never knew they made! Haha.
Seen a few on auto trader, lovely looking cars :) just need to make sure I can afford to run it! But for now, back to modding the golf!

Please don't take this the wrong way mate and i'm not trying to be a smart arse, but you had a bit of bother when trading to the golf (which we're all glad you did ) so is it worth throwing a load more money at it if you've got another car in mind already? You'll get some back if you sell the mods but going to something like an R36 which will be a massive money pit i think i'd be trying to save a few quid. Just my 2p which you can tell me to shove up my @rse if you like

I could not resist responding.
Jimble is on the money.
Dan, why on earth do you wish to buy a massive family-size boring gas guzzling repmobile barge with zero handling flair like the Passout? Calm down, take a reality check, enjoy driving your present car, spend more time with your girlfriend, marry her tout suite and get her pregnant. I am being serious.
-
Nice enough car if you need the size but if its size and it was me for the money the phaeton or superb secondhand would be my choice or something a little smaller an octavia vRS.
-
Yeah can see where you're all coming, just always had a soft spot for the r32 :(
I'll take all of your advice and adhere to it :)

Agreed
Spend some money on the tweaks you want and enjoy.
At 20/21 you have years of driving enjoyment ahead of you ANC plenty of time to indulge in car heaven in years to come.
-
Yeah you guys are right :)
I'm going to enjoy making my car unique :)
Thank you all, especially Asker :p for putting me back on track :)

Enjoy small cars when you can, as a family will at some point cause the move to such larger cars like the Passat.

Sounds interesting, keep me posted!
Anything xenon related is not money wasted in my opinion, I need them back in my life

Dan: By the time you've finished fiddling with your car with the Doc's help, it won't know whether it is an Arthur or a Martha.

Haha Asker, very true! I think she's a she atm, needs to be a he. Mean lookin :)
-
One question.
Why don't you save all the money you are spending and buy a GTI?
Can't afford the insurance?
Then wait until you can.
I did.
-
To be honest mate, I've been thinking about that over the past few days, I probably will do that, I'll do a few mods but nothing major :)

Well, busy day today, washed my car, mum's GTI and a mate's Zetec S.
Also got chance to fit my Leon Cupra R splitter :)

SteveP has also kindly supplied me with some Audi S3 calliper clips which should be here next week :)
And I think I've also decided to paint my callipers Gloss White with Gloss Black wheels, opinions?
Going to order my Forge DV spacer tonight :D
-
Looking good, it's nice that you still drop by to say ello and keep us updated on your motor
-
Well SteveP was supposed to be sending me some s3 calliper clips, so far haven't received them and he isn't replying to my emails? Strange.
Loving the power of this car though :)
-
He maybe in the middle of his house move by now which may explain this as he does seem to have gone quiet on all the forums at the moment.
-
Were there not a load of the mk5 forum boys going off to Ze Ring in May?
Could be that or the much delayed house move.
By the way, I like the R splitter on the Cupra, Dan.
Keep the calipers red, white will be an absolute pig to keep clean and they will probably end up yellowish in no time at all if the old white Ibiza Cupra wheels are anything to go by. Or paint them black. But red is fine with the R clips.
And yes, gloss black for the Orions. Goes well with the silver, I nearly bought one in that spec a couple of years ago.
And while I'm here, Geoff, you seem to change forum signatures more often than I change my pants or alloy wheels, pray what is that four ringed thingy that has appeared?
-

Ahh right I didn't know he was moving. I'm moving this week also so just wanted abit of time to myself to get them fitted :)
Yeah, thanks Andy, white callipers will be bad :( maybe yellow or orange to go with the black? Want to get my wheels done asap :)

Well, if they're staying red, I'll need to refurb them as they're already red. Any ideas on what produce to use to make them sparkle again? :D

You may just find a bit of T-cut or other paint restorer will bring the colour back into the calipers. If they are really faded beyond elbow grease and polish then good old Hammerite Red will do the job well enough. Hammerite is pretty tough and will adhere to old paint well.
-
Correct I was at the Nurburgring and have replied
-
Well, tonight I've taken the engine cover off, cleaned the air filter although it does need a new one, and checked my DV :) I also want to get my cam follower checked next weekend.
The engine cover was a pita to get off :( air filter is totally black so I gave it a quick hoover but will get a new one asap :)
My DV is the old type so could do with ordering the new one when The Doc adds his special recipe to my car ;)

Haha not yet ;)
My exhaust seems to have developed an annoying rattle, Seat say it maybe the baffles or somethings loose in there but won't know unless they take it off. Stuff that.
I've got my old FR exhaust stuck in the garage WITHOUT the centre silencer, I think I'm going to have it fitted tomorrow :) I will, of course, do before and after videos :)

As you can see, the old filter was black. That for sure wasn't changed at the 40k service. She should breath better now.
As for the exhaust rattle, am more then positive it's a heat shield that has come loose somewhere, just dont know where!
-
Looking good - When you coming over
-
C'mon Dan - all this teasing with your car - get a date with the Doc and let him breath a new life into it.
PS Great work on the Seat so far - you put us slow modders to shame
-
Haha, it's like I want too, but I know I should save for other mods too :P
I'm happy with 1st, 2nd and 3rd power, just need more mid-range torque so I don't have to drop to 3rd for a quick over-take :(
Adrian, your kind words are appreciated :)
-
Dan, are we discussing the Golf TDi or the Leon or your mum's GTI?
Dan's Golf TDI got swapped for the Leon
I was attempting to be sarcastic.
What was that
-
I think it was 2 boxers and he'd shoved the other guys head down his undercrackers toward his gentlemens area :) Something like that :P
-
A few bits arrived today, still waiting for my number plate surround :(
C2 Aerial - it's a must in the Seat world as we all have big long sticks coming from our roofs :P
(http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj130/dannyisace/IMAG0198.jpg)
Then my favourite delivery :D
(http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj130/dannyisace/IMAG0199.jpg)
Cobra Sport custom made exhaust :) and the reason it's my favourite you ask......not because of the sound it'll make, or how the larger oval tip will aesthetically improve my car......none of those.....I only paid £13 for it :) bargain of the century :D
It is used, come from a PD170 FR, he got rid because, without removing the DPF, the TDI's never sound any different. So it came to it's new home, where the fire-breathing Cupra can shove all it's waste down it :D
(http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj130/dannyisace/IMAG0200.jpg)
And abit of this and that;
Trying to fit it today, it's a slightly smaller pipe the my Cupra's standard downpipe so hopefully I'll just need a reducer. Any ideas what's best to use to cut the old exhaust?
-
Nice Dan - fitting and sound track soon I hope
-
Sorry about the poor video, iPhones for ya :)

Can someone let me know if this is working?
-
Well, not been here much but a little news.
The car has been sold. General running costs have forced the sale, but I'm happy with the chosen vehicle :)
2008 Audi A3 S-Line 2.0TDI :) This is the facelift model, took it for a drive on Friday and it's a brilliant car. No rattles, squeaks etc just refinement. The car has a few options like full leather, heated seats etc.
Should be picking up this week hopefully. Insurance, tax and fuel are all A LOT less then my current Cupra.
Here's a quick picture from the dealer's website :)
I'm really pleased with my choice, I'll post pictures after I've got her and given her a good detail, bought some more cleaning products today :)
-
Nice

Nice mate, I came out of a Sportback A3 s-line. I see your one is the 'Black' version, nice wheels too mate.
Jim
-
Cheers Andy and Jimmy :)
It's not the Black Edition, as it doesn't have Bi-Xenons with LEDs etc but it does have Black Optics pack :) which is why it has black grill. I'll be getting the wheels done darker in the next few months, probably by SWWR, if you're about Andy at the end of Sept, would be nice to meet up :)
-
Dan:
Thou art a legend. 3rd time lucky? Same girlfriend I presume?
Congratulations for the 3rd time.

Hello everyone,
Hope you're all well, its been a while since I've been on here!
I've had a BMW 1 series for the past year, but after putting nearly 30k miles on it in less then a year, I decided to get rid and wanted something new.
I looked at the MK7 Golf but just couldn't quite get used to it, so went to Audi to browse the new A3 and ended walking away with an ex demo from Audi H/O!
Plenty of spec, MMI plus HDD navi, Bang&Olufsen sound system, comfort pack, LED lighting pack, Technology pack.
It's in the rare Dakota grey, 2.0TDI S-Line with 4k miles on the clock. I received a very competitive deal, they threw in 2 years servicing, alloy and tyre protection, guardX, road tax and reduced GAP insurance down to around £150.
All in all, one happy chappy :)
Today, I removed the dealer sticker from the rear window and debaged it of the A3 and TDI badges.
Photos to come :)
-
As promised, photos of my new beauty.
I figured people might want a change from viewing MK7 pictures ;)
Enjoy!

Looks good that, typically nice looking Audi interior too
-
Very nice!
-
Very nice Dan. Really like the colour and the wheels.
-
Lovely, it's a beauty. Very nice interior.
-
Thanks everyone, I'm very pleased with it and it feels much more special then my previous A3 :)
-
Hi Dan
Good to see you back on here. The A3 does like nice and a great colour - Daytona looks even better in the flesh
-
how do these compare in terms of a drivers car compared to the previous A3 in S-line guise as my A3 sportback was horrific
pics never do the new shape justice as look so much better in the flesh as you pick up the detailing
-
Thanks Adrian, I haven't seen Daytona grey in the flesh, but my Dakota grey is a weird one. It's brown in some lights, but grey in the shade!
Hope you're well buddy :)
I've come from a BMW 118D which isn't the quickest I've cars but by god did it handle well, and the Audi isn't really much of a step down. Yes, it can fight for traction a little in fast corners, but its a good all rounder.
You can delete the S-Line suspension from factory if you wish, but I don't think it's bad at all :)
-
Hi Dan
Oops my typo error reads wrong - it reads as though I've just slated your colour choice :(
I meant Dakota not Daytona. !!
PS change your signature to the new spec. :)
-
Looks fab Dan. Great colour too. Classy.
What's the mod plans?
-
Very nice that, lovely spec....
-
Thanks for the kind words everyone :)
Adrian, I thought that was the case but I didn't want to say anything in case you did prefer Daytona haha ;)
Andy, plans at the minute are to de-chrome, just seen a lovely picture of a Sportback in the same colour as mine with no chrome and black alloys (which I wasn't sure of) but it looks brilliant, I'll try and get the picture up.
I've also been asking on Audi Sport.net about retrofitting the reverse camera, Kufatec do it for £600  so I think I'll wait a bit, but so far, I'm just enjoying her! Such an improvement over the 8P A3!
