Where has the sticky about the MK6 "common problems" gone?
-
I removed it.
-
How come mate?
-
Seemed a useful thread, how come?
-
I sent you a PM earlier about it Doc. You can post said PM if you want Doc as i don't have a copy of it. It just reminded me of the Edition30 post on the mk5 section. All owners want to hear is good and prase not what the dealers know.
The reason i removed it was simply as i posted it! I actually ment to lock it. I just did not want another argument as it seemed others would argue what was common and not. Good for them, but its funny the dealers have official document on how to fix/try and fix all the problems that were listed if there not common.
And i know alot of my posts in here is answering alot of the same questions over and over and over and over again about the same 'non' common problems.
If someone wants to start a new thread fine im not stopping them. (I did think it would be a useful idea at the time)
Just im not having my name at the head of it when people start discussing whats common and not in their opinion.
-
Just read it sorry :embarassed:
-
I thought it was useful on one hand if it was common problems but if everyone just posted their wee niggles then the list would be massive and to outsiders it would look like the MK 6 was a peace of junk.
-
If it was just for common problems then great.
I personally had not experienced any of the problems listed. (Nothing the VW rubber stick didn't sort out anyway).
-
I sent the PM back mate so you can edit it for the masses
Why not have the problems and solutions but keep it heavily modded?
It's a shame the minority spoil it for the masses
-
I'd re-start it and then lock it and update accordingly with faults that people seem to keep posting about. The masses will help determine the majority of the common problems
You could put links to the threads where the discussions have taken place thus leaving the thread clean and only listing the faults rather than descending into chit chat
-
Its a good idea ,but it would just end up with people whinging about their individual problems not actual common problems i.e problems that 3 or more MK6 GTI owners had experinced..
Try again but ask people to stick to common problems that they know at least one other person on the forum has experinced.

I will let Doc post and edit it if its to be done again,
As what i know as common (relayed from VW DST/MDSTs from my bro) and what class as 'common' and an issue is totally different it seems. It also seems what im forever answering time and time again, over and over again (not just on this mk6 forum either) is also not 'common'.
-
I think the problem sticky was overloading the forum due to size so was deleted :lipsrsealed:

The MK6 Golf GTI wins all these accolades and is universally regarded as an outstanding car yet we find twenty five common faults in three posts. Five maybe ?

If you really think what magazine are paid to say, and the cars they get are off the shelf production models that are not specially prepped your sadly mistaken.
Anyway you guys believe what you want, i don't care.
I know what i have been relayed from the guys who fix them, Also the amount of times i have kindly and politely answered the same questions over and over and over again. Im done on this thread. I don't give a damb what people beleive is common or not you lot do what you want with this subject im done with it.
-
Seeing is believing, it’s Golf not a Rolls Royce, if I paid £100k I would expect perfection. £25k very good will do me.
p.s its not a dig at you ,dont take it personal

No one is having a pop at you, some of us just have different opinions on what is common and what isn't.
We all really like you and are glad you are one of our Mods.
Your input and knowledge is second to none.

It's getting harder to follow this forum!
I think my posts on this thread explain it.
I started a sticky thread about common problems and issues with the mk6.
I started it off with simple ones infact not the complicated mechanical ones.
The ones i posted were ones i have had relayed to me from VW techs, and are the most common questions i seem to answer on here and other mk6 forums.
There was two additional replies to said thread both listing issues said VW employees had also relayed to me but i had not posted yet, but others did. (One of the replys was more PDI related but still issues if your buying a new car you may want to watch out for)
It then got were there was more than a few replies saying they were not common faults and it started to go the way of this thread.
I decided at that point to cut my losses, give up from informing people, (what forums were originaly designed for, not the pat on the back prase look at my new gizmo stuff) of what i had been relayed and were always answering on the forums and just close the thread.
I started the thread so i decided to cut my losses and close it. Instead i deleted it, but the outcome was the same.
I did not want my name at the top of a thread that was just turning into an argument of peoples opinions of what they thought was common and what was not.
Hope this explains it for you.

You have a valid point Snoops and I personally think you did the right thing.
The problems I listed for instance, we talked about for ages on the forum and are common problems. It will be a pain to troll and find all the posts and threads. You can see these problems on the cars on the street. Some people get these fixed, others cannot be bothered. Some cars are better made than others. However, VW attended to all mine under warranty. Mine was not the first car the bodyshop had to rectify with these issues. These are issues VW know about.
I did however find that the list of 24 items provided great clarity.
-
My problem is that i was the first reply in that sticky, i read one other reply and then logged off for a few hours so it would seem i missed most of what your talking about as when i logged back on it was gone and this thread was here, my reply in this thread was a bit tongue in cheek tbh, not trying to offend you as your probably one of the most knowledgable on here but there are threads being posted then removed, cut then pasted with new titles so "harder to follow". Perhaps you should have locked it with an explanation, and then deleted it? Just my 2p.

I did originally meen too lock it but the 'lock topic' and 'delete topic' buttons are right next to each other and i hit the wrong one. In the end im glad i did as i did not want it there with my name on it.

Sounds like a thread with some useful information (for a change). Shame it went before I had a chance to read it.

It would have grown that way was my plan for it, it was started off v.simple but it would have got technical

Maybe just limit and moderate to the top 10 or 20 faults/niggles/problems?
Just an idea. Hard work to moderate though.
-
But whos to say they are the top 10? You, me, doc, VW MDST at your local delaership, MDST at my local dealership, do i have to send a questionair to all VW dealerships, do i include all VWgroup brands if its a common part to them all, all VW forums involving mk6 golfs and maybe others if its a common part to other brands models?.... And there lies the problem, we are back too the definition of 'common'

Maybe that's part of the problem? I remember your well documented panels out of alignment but that for me is very subjective. I'm sure I have one or two panels like others that are slightly out but to me that is not an inherent fault with the car.
Same with someone having the odd rattle. Is that a common problem? Sure if dozens of people have the same rattle at the same place. Like a lot of folk have spoke about the ticking of the door panel when it gets hot.
Snoopy I don't know why you are getting your knickers in a twist mate. Why would you have been to blame if the thread got out of hand? Not unless you are a sensitive wee soul that takes everything to heart? You aren't responsible for others actions.
I'll be honest when I first read the post my initial impressions were "bloody hell lets all sh!t on the MK6 from a great height" as the post would be 100% negative. I was going to start a similar thread with "Lets all post the good things we like about our cars" but decided against it.
Like a few have mentioned, maybe it would be good to have a "Common" niggles post that you could let grow but then cut the dross out. Or have a balanced outlook as there are some great features folk have mentioned through threads.
But you need to chill Snoopy  Don't take it to heart.
-
It is a really good idea and thats why so many people are interested and so many noticed it disappeared.
I think though it could have been numbering hundreds within a very short time if the faults/niggles weren't very common.
-

Does it matter what the dealership problems are? We would be listing real life problems / niggles of users of golfgti.co.uk

Do we need a petition to get it reinstated?
Snoopy, it really is a good idea for a sticky as long as it's limited/moderated.
-

I am chilled
I looked 5 steps ahead i noticed what was happenning. As you say people don't like to hear the negatives but i thought it would be helpful. It sure as hell would save my fingers from typing the same stuff over and over and over again when newbies ask the same questions. (Search does not always bring all the answers up).
I guess its been prooven that mk6 owners like mk5 owners don't want to hear what the guys who fix the cars day in day out say they often fix because according to some of them its not common problems, or the ones that also have backing of forum posts that im constantly repeating over the past year and a half on not just this forum but many other mk6 forums.

IF thats the way you want to go thats fine. But i don;t think a small 20 member or less is a good representation of whats common and what happens if only one car has a problem but its known to the trade as a common problem i guess that does not get included even though someone may end up buying a car with this problem.

I don't want it reinstated, not the way it was.
If you or anyone else wants to start a new problem type thread thats fine.
But i don't want anything to do with it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I seem to be repeating the same reply over and over again. So i think i should just STFU and let you all get on with whatever way you want to go with this. Bye..

Snoppy I know you don't want to go on about it so I'll shut up after this then, promise
You obviously have some inside information on the subject that we the ordinary punters aren't privileged to. What about if that started the thread not necessarily by you (Doc maybe ) that people could confirm or deny they had a problem with and build from there. It could be trimmed depending on the common occurrence of these. I know you originally posted these.
-
I don't want to stir the hornet's next on this topic and agree that the thread could get subjective and out of hand but I'd be keen to know about problems that a little preventative maintenance could solve. I'd vote for establishing a thread with a constructive bias, perhaps in the maintenance area to keep it focused.

 don't stir,
The original thread as you know only had 4 posts that were any information the rest was just trouble starting.
It would have been an interesting thread if it was not for those that all they want is there car prased and there ego stroked for picking such a car.
As i said earlier
If you or anyone else wants to start a new problem type thread thats fine.
If anyone wants to start a thread about how great the mk6 is thats fine too.
Did you do that post on purpose to see if i would reply
Oh well it worked but won't work again.

Sorry mate but that is absolute bo!!ocks.
If a car doesn't have problems why make them up? Niggles maybe but problems?!?
Granted I only saw the first 4 posts but ego stroking cos they picked a trouble free car??
Its like the current vote that is running, why no option for problem free?
I really don't get it.

Well start a new poll for those who have had no problems.
Sorry if you feel aggrieved by this omission.
The poll is about problems and you are posting on 'Where is the problems sticky??'

I don't feel aggrieved. I just think it is crazy. Anyone googling a Golf MK6 will no doubt come across this forum and possibly take a look and think what a pile of junk. What is so wrong with being balanced?
As for a poll on No problems, how does that work? A no is a no you can't quantify it.
No wonder the other sections come in here and rip the p!ss.

Tell you what. You re-start the poll and once you have, I'll delete mine straight away. How's that for a compromise? I would if I could put the bit in you so desire, but I can't as I don't know how to do it.
Goodnight and sweet dreams.

Yep. As I suggested to Snoopy, as time has passed myself and mostly Rich have taken the key details from threads and created threads in the MK4 Information section
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?board=58.0
As you can see most of the common questions asked by forum members are within this section. It has helped reduce the frequency of which the same questions are asked. If the question is asked again we point them to the thread and if they are new politely tell them to get friendly with the forum search function :afro:
IMO common problems are a combination of what VW dealers deal with day to day and also what forum members are posting about. Over time you should end up with a comprehensive source information which not only helps current members but those interested in buying a MK6
