I got the wheels back from the powdercoaters today... and immediately got the tyres on the rims and fitted to the car in preparation for the next wave of snow!
They look decent enough for a set of winter wheels. I hope the suspension will settle soon after being jacked up as it looks a tad high!
The wheels are Skoda Zenith wheels - which are originally found on an Octavia vRS I believe. 18 x 7.5 - with the perfect fitment for the Golf R. I had them powdercoated a dark anthracite colour.
The tyres are Continental WinterContacts 830 - 225 x 40 x 18. They have a nice big rim protection, so hopefully they'll keep the wheels safe from snowey kerbs!
I've just given the car a quick wash since the wheels were clean. My mums neighbours must have been thinking 'What an idiot' as I rushed round the car with my mitt and bucked whilst it snowed down!! Usual poor quality camera phone jobbies - but hey ho! You can see snowflakes in some of them!!
I have to wait a week and get the wheel re-torqued, so I'm waiting until them before I put the caps back on the nuts.

I like those a lot
-
Tidy
I've fitted some wheels too but mine are no where near as posh as yours
-
Very nice mate.
-
Congratulations. You did well. Your tyres are now £232 each. You have saved a total of £120.
Mine have dropped in price to £227 from £247. I've paid £80 over the odds!
They look the business. The Anthracite is perfect. The overall effect is excellent. Love it.
Driving experience? Maybe too early for this.
-
They look great. I do like the colour, might have to get my winter wheels done that colour once the paint starts coming off them

Ha ha... give me a chance! I've driven from the garage, to my mums to wash it, then home.
Thats about 12 miles! So far the roads are still pretty clear as the snow isn't lying. The only thing I can report so far is that there doesn't seem to be any more road noise with these tyres than the Dunlops that are on my Tallys!
-
Very nice, not seen a mk6 with those on before, good choice.
-
Looking good Pete.
-
They look great, remind me of the VWR wheels with a few more spokes.
I wouldn't worry about the neighbours, I'm sure mine think I'm certifiable as I'll wash the car when it needs it. Even if it happens to be around zero outside.
-
They look great.
Winter wheels are a great excuse to change wheels for a certain period of time. Mix things up a bit. We dont have anywhere near enough snow in this country to warrant having winter wheels on IMO but thats a whole new can of worms.
Great choice in colour aswell
-
Lovely. Looks as if they were made for your R.
You'll be praying for snow now to try them out and get your moneys worth
-
4WD winter tyre fun :D
The big old Chelsea tractor will have to move out the way.
-
Looks good.
Ultimate winter traction.

Hah, says "South London la la la"!
What a sheltered life you lead!

Great wheels by the way.

To be fair Rolfe, you are in a different country!
-
love the car!! not so keen on the wheels (or maybe I am the only one being honest?? :lipsrsealed:)
anyway they are on there to serve a purpose... you should have no trouble what so ever with AWD and winter tyres

Same country as me
-
Great choice of wheels there. They look very nice indeed.

Good point! (You've seen that yellow-and-black badge on Prospero's windscreen....)
Rolfe.

(except for the 1" lowered springs).
I noticed a small gouge on my front bumper when I was cleaning it today that looks like its been used as a snow plough on some sharp ice. Perhaps if I was 1" higher it might have missed it!
As its so low down and very hard to see I might get away with a dab from a touch up pen.
-
Thats the thing im not keen on with the newer golf on how low they are at the front. It was bad enough with our other cars that acted like snow plows a few weeks ago the mk6 would have snapped its bumper its so much lower  and yours been an R is lower still

Sorry to hear about this as it is most annoying, but on a cheekier note, you might not have had this happen with a higher riding GTI.
I have had so many bumper incidences, I am a fine one to talk. :embarassed:
Just imagine if I had an R. It would be a wreck by now! :embarassed:
-
It's only a tiny little mark, so I'm not going to worry about it.
I'll need to call in past my dealer and see if I can pick up a reflex silver touch up pen.
-
Very smart, i like a lot
-
Perhaps a few bags of cement in the boot would raise up the front of the R and give more grip to the rear wheels.
I wouldn't get very many in my tiny 4WD boot

That was a nearly a bad crib from Nosh Wash.
He got the idea from Ben Oliver in Car magazine who put a few concrete slabs in the boot to sort out the hard ride of their long termer R with 19" wheels, as he did not spec the car with with ACC.
I wish the R had a bigger boot. I wish a lot of things.

Trust you. I left myself wide open for that one!
Oops, I did it again.
'Oops!
... I did it again.
I played with your heart.
Got lost in the game.
Oh, baby; baby.
Oops!
... You think I'm in love.
That I'm sent from above...
I'm not that innocent'. ... BRITNEY SPEARS
Too much time on my hands. Need to go back to work.
Going, going, gone a bit mad!

Are you still stuck indoors?
I've been putting bags of sand in my fiancee's BMW boot for a couple of years now to try and help it in the snow. It does actually make a big difference, but generally her car sits in the car park at the first sign of snow!
The boot in the R isn't that much smaller... I was being facetious!

Yes, still indoors, but much, much better.
Seeing the Physio tomorrow.
Your boot is fine, unless you have to put prams and baby things for 3 of them!
Any views about ride and handling?

What's happened to you asker?

What's happened to you asker?
Fell down the stairs on a London bus due to bad driving and smashed my left shoulder and sprained finger on left hand. Much better now.
Thanks for asking.

Ouch! Glad your feeling better mate.
