I hope this isnt a re-post. This has to be the most insane Mk1 build i have ever seen, its going to be epic!

That is going to be onr hel of a mk1, so much work has gone into it. Love it

Nope, not seen that before, the best i'd seen like this was some germans on youtube that are in the process of building an AWD VR6 turbo mk1 and that was mental, but this.... incredible... so much work!.....
What the feck was wrong with the R32 to begin with!?
-
That's is mental I'm speechless
-
That is going to be a monster when it's done! Those guys have serious skills though
-
That is absolute madness!!!
These kind of projects are what inspire me to continue modding!
Have to modify my reply... MY GOD! all the fab work is outstanding! cant actually believe what is being done!
Mucho respect to these guys! anf Great pics!!
And i know the Mk1 you're on about soundillusion ;) That is rapid! And the rev counter doesnt work :D
Adds to the banter !
-
epic build and show complete mentalness for destroying that R32 but one hell of a project!
-
best build thread i have ever seen.
soo much work has gone into that
-
Cutting the floor pan, and firewall out of another car, is a mod that makes life so much easier, and can save weeks, and weeks of unnecessary fabrication, and is not as daunting as it looks.. hats off to them for doing it in a properly thought out way, great build thread, look forward to seeing it finished...

Yeah thats the one, was rebuilt so many times with different engines untill they got to the VR Turbo..... they teased with the AWD but havent seen anything since, may have to have another look for it....
As for this one, I am so impressed with the well thought out build, Just hope they remove the US Spec rear lights when they are done!

From what i read it had major subframe damage? Does look like it already had started to be stripped down. Cant wait to see it finished? Is that one your on about on youtube a blue one? Cause iv seen that and you are rite about it being a mental build.
-
I spy a customer with very deep pockets. Okay, having a complete donor car makes like massively easier but you're easily looking at a £20k project before you even start buying the expensive bits for the engine.
-
I love mk 1's the most despite owning a mk4 so this makes do a sex wee!!! the engineering skills of these guys is absolutely
ridiculous!! this thread has been bookmarked for sure!!!
-
Holy fcuk!
Now that is what i call a project!! I will be keeping an eye on this...
Hats off to the guys!!
-
Awesome work, epic build.

am i right in thinking this couldnt be road legal in the uk because of the whole modified transmission tunnel and floor pan etc.. :undecided:

Correct, I believe you would need a SVA test but would be a major ballache.

IVA, numpty.
IVA is much tougher and I think you'd gain a Q-plate for your troubles in the UK, too.

Would be very gutting to find out you couln't put it on the road if that was your intention after all that hard graft!

sounds like it could just be a show-mobile earning scene points. I would imagine the excercise of endowing it with 500bhp is for bragging rights only!
-
Found this on the original thread on VWVortex..

I watched that on the orignal thresd and whooo that is already bloody quick, cant wait to see what it will be like with the r32 lump in it?

it looks very bent on those front chassis legs. plus you can see the airbag has gone off on the passenger side, sounds like a front end accident.

Yeah it does look like front end damage, bit supprised that with that sort of damage to the subframe that the engine was all ok?

or it could be like Andy Waite's 1.8T Haldex 4wd Mk1, that runs 9.8s@145mph at Santa Pod......

no but wasn't that just because it was running well this year?

I've seen the 'rocco before, running mid 10s, at inters Andy's problem will have been traction off the line

It was running rough, it had boost issues and was spluttering and conking out at launch when I saw it... Apparently it kept blowing boost hoses.

aaah fair enough, seeing it run 9s at GTi Fest was something aweeeesome

I still can't get over the frabrication work going on with this, it's insane. I love how they raised the front turrets although I don't get whats going on at the rear, how is the suspension mounted now!?.. also with the wrong wheels on I don't get how it would go round corners now either!?

A mazin best thread ive seen but.....WHERES THE REST !!!! I need more. Last pics were july 2009, is it finished?????????????????? Please i need closure

Good god, that is some serious boosttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

My bad, i was looking at the join date :embarassed:
There is no way i would cover that up, am i right in thinking they can run cars with no bonnets(hoods) over there!!!

I think it depends on the state.

Yeah they sure know what they are doing.. the things that impress me the most so far is thar manifold, the mk5 floor pan and the extreme suspension mods!

They are just playing, check out http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1575817 for some serious boost (and budget). Amazes me when people state that these people have amazing skills. They are just good fabricators who have a lot of money to play with. There is a very big distinction between these sort of projects and the engineering that you see in proper motorsports, aerospace or even in the arms game. Anyone can throw money at a project and get a nice looking result that is practically undriveable and I have a lot more respect for people like Adaptorman who did the 4wd caddy that was in the projects pages with zero knowledge and budget all in his own backyard than any of these fancypants show car boys. *gets down off fence

I hear what you're saying and no credit goes to the owner as it is he who has the big wallet... but i still think the guys that are being paid are doing some cracking work! Skill may not be the correct word but there is no denying a lot of thought and hard work has gone into this.
oh and Adaptorman is a god in comparison
-
Oh and just had a quick look at that bimmer thread... now that is engineering! new ally block from scratch... sweet!
-
canny big turbo in that bimmer

It's been a month so thought i'd give this a bump as there has been more progress.
Click (http://www.stanceworks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11983)
A question has been raised on the Manifold setups asking if any calculations have been made due to the way that both manifolds join into one just before the two turbos. Question has not been anawered although it is an interesting question on an interesting setup for a twin turbo, I've always seen one turbo per manifold on V engines????
-
The thing that worries me is how far over the front axle line the engine block is, the handling will be interesting. :undecided:
-
The levels of workmanship on this motor are truly incredible and I can't wait to see the finished creation, it's going to be utterly ridiculous!

The exhaust isnt too big a problem other than the way they have gone from 2 big volumes down to 1 small volume at the join and the way they have taken the wategate feeds off and fed them back into the system when they could easily have eased the flow path but...... That intercooler design is fookin horrible in every way imaginable. Itd be funny to see them do a pressure drop test across that as its really bloody horrendous.
Im still not impressed by this at all, its just throwing money at a project in areas that would be better being considered more carefully but I suppose thats what happens when moronic customers just throw money at you. As for the quality of the fab work, any half decent bodyshop could turn it out, I dont see what the big deal is??
-
I must agree that intercooler isn't the sexiest thing ive ever seen by far.
-
right... i have had a very good read of the thread linked... and I am not really a fan
1. I don't like the way his fantastic mk1 was stripped down from the 16v turbo that he had... it was pointless... he could have got another mk1 shell and used that and sold his original mk1 complete. that way two mk1's would be on the road.
2. the intercooler made me lose interest and I just thought it was some bloke chucking a shed load of money at it... while custom bodyshop work is amazing to look at I find homebrew work far more impressive and inspiring.
sorry but there you go, will it be shiny and lovely and fast? yes. will it impress me as much as some of the work I see by the punters on here? No.

Your first point is a very good one actually...I did really like what he had originally. I think this is a fantastic project but you have got me thinking now about why he chose to chop up a perfectly good car. It would have made more sense to do this to a rotton golf as the skills are there and most of the car is being chopped up anayway.
Your second point must mean that in your eyes my golf is better than his.

Well just to remind folks, read this thread and then you will understand a holly level that the amature mechanic 'adaptorman' reaches and pisses all over the fat yanks with there even fatter wallets.

The standard of workmanship and imagination is staggering, he has a real 'can do, lets do it' attitude.

This isnt very cool I feel they should Invest in a bending bench, and as for the oil cooler bracket - that's just plain silly.

You'll mostly see

The blower pipe at the rear doesn't meet the 90 bend properly, why where the TB intake meets that box (which I assume is the solution to merging two blower pipes?) would you not sit the plate level with the top? Why have they ginded off the weld on the intake on the right but not on any other pipework? I could go on. When this build started I was all for defending the work going into it but they just dont seem to have the attention to detail/perfection that such a build deserves.
-
Absolute bonkers, I don't give a flying F what anyone says. Bloody craziness. Love it.
-
There must be 2 threads running about this build, in this one I commented about the floor change was a good idea, as it saved lots of fabrication work.
there is also a thread, where I commented about the quality of the work... not very good I'm afraid! I remember commenting on a pic of the pick up point for the track control arm... looking like a dogs dinner
