Hi guys,
My local Shell has been closed for about 6 weeks, so i had to fill up with BP Ultimate for that time.
Since filling back up with V-Power again, i've noticed that i'm getting around 3mpg less. At first i thought maybe it was just me, but the last few trips to and from work haven't been as good as when i was using BP juice.
Open to debate.........

I started using Shell V Power and posted some time ago that my fuel consumption was really terrible. I even took the car to VW for a check-up.
I then changed to BP Ultimate and the engine's fuel effeciency improved very slightly. However, the engine felt a bit rougher. Could be my imagination.
I then went back to Shell V Power, and the fuel effeciency of the engine was slightly worse but the engine felt smoother.
Finally, I tried Total Excellium. I got better fuel economy than with Shell V Power and about the same as that with BP Ultimate. However, I felt that the engine was as smooth as when I used Shell V Power.
I am therefore sticking with Total Excellium 97 RON for the present.
While I agree that this is all very subjective and there are a huge number of variables, I can only go by my own meagre experience.

none of that 95/97/98 rubbish for me!!
99 only here
-
Ultimate is a joke, bp forecourts are always more expensive then shell, 99 ftw Tesco or shell
-
I get pretty much the same in my very delicate mk2, brilliant on v power and very good on tesco. f**king sh!te on everything else, BP ultimate dropped 5mpg of my last trip home and made the engine idle slightly weird
-
I've started using Tesco Momentum 99 now. I always used to use V-Power. Seems pretty good!
-
After filling up with almost exclusively Shell V Power or Tesco 99 I found myself having to fill up at a BP station a few days ago.
Grunt and mpg both disappointing.

Don't like BP Ultimate.
Poor BP, even their fuel sucks.

I use either V-power or Tesco Momentum 99, nothing else.
Can't really tell much difference between the two, both in smoothness or MPG, so I go for Tesco's which is cheaper + it gives me nice clubcard points (£14 more and I'll get a Ferrari/formula renault experience day).

A bit of background reading :-
+20bhp more on a Focus RS, just by upgrading to 99 RON :o

I stick with Tesco Momentum or Shell V-Power and never use anything else .. I even plan my refuels if going on a long trip away from home

this maybe a long shot but what is the general consensus on v-power diesel, is it worth the money ????

Personally I always use V Power Diesel in my ML420
My previous ML270 was always more economical on Shell than anything else so just carried on the same.

V power diesel is a strange thing - it's just got additives for cleaning the fuel system. This is how it supposedly brings improved performance and economy, by keeping your injectors clean. Any half decent fuel should do this though... personally I think it's just marketing using the V power name to create a 'premium' product. When I had a diesel I tried it but didn't see any benefits. But if you find improvements in economy which offset the additional cost, go for it.
:nerd: Because diesel is compression ignition, you don't want it to have a high octane rating like petrol (which provides resistance to detonation). If I recall, diesel is generally only 15-20 RON. It is more usually rated by cetane content, which affects the delay and rate of ignition.

30-50 Cetane. Octane is a petrol thing

as said before higher octane fuels will give you more power if the engine has knock control.. many older cars dont but people still continue to use the more expensive fuels. A job well done by the marketing men I would say
