Title: Any interest in video in motion for RNS510 users
Post by: mortygt140 on 11 December 2010, 17:26
I'm wanting to know who would be interested in getting this done to there unit, I will do it cheaper than the leads that can be bought from the likes of Kufatec and other suppliers, but it will only be for forum members.

This is a software change but will not affect the firmware or anything on the unit.

Price wise I was thinking £45

If there is a bit of interest then I may make some kind of mini meet in a local enough area to everyones location so they can be all done together if you know what I mean.

Fro I think it would be a bit far for me to come to do this to yours

Basically I have had to by a special lead and software a bit like VCDS(VAGcom) which has cost me quite a bit of money, but hopefully I can recoup some of it to help some of you guys out.

The VIM leads are roughly £100+ from some of the known companies like Kufatec?

It will also do DVD region changing and also has a few other things but like I said its cost me a few quid.

The RNS510 I bought from Darren had the video in motion built in and I can definitley recommend it.

Me, my wife and son travel to watch football every week so every second week when we go to away games the journeys can be so loooong (6 hours today) so it can be a godsend putting a DVD in to pass the time for him.

The first couple of times I had it in I must admit it was quite distracting but now I don't even look at it twice. Especially since any nav directions are displayed on the MFD.

Darren do you know if the RNS can be hooked up to external monitors i.e. for the rear headrests?

Steve yes it can mate, but I think you need some kind of video interface so you can take it from the RNS to the RSE headrests.

Have a look on www.my-gti.com and search on the left for rear seat entertainment.

There seems to be a worrying avid interest for this VIM.
I think Darren should include a clause that only content he approves of can be viewed!

Video in Motion Kev,  the software I am getting will enable me to turn the speed to somewhere your not going to get to in normal driving so the video/DVD will always be on,

None of this getting to 5kmh and the dvd turning off.

I'd be up for this - but being up in Aberdeen isn't really in my favour!

I bought a VIM lead from eBay a while back, but it just didn't work.  I did get a refund though!

I could easily make it to Dundee when you're available.
How do you go about updating it anyway?  Is it just a case of plugging a cable into the RNS itself - or is it still done through the diagnostic port?  Will future FW updates disable it - or is it permanent?

Please disregard my ignorance, but is mine an RNS510?
I have a GiT registered in Jul/Aug 2010, but has the LED rear lights etc.

Sorry, I am fairly new to the technical info of the Mk6 !

Red: If you have a Sat Nav, it is the RNS510. If you don't but have a touch screen radio, then it is the RCD510.

Does any one want this doing at the moment and can travel or meet up around the Yorkshire area.  maybe we can get a small meet going on???

I have the lead and it takes around 20 mins a unit but not tried the mk6 yet if I can get my hand behind the steering wheel and to the back of the stereo I can do it in about 5 minutes.  I cannot do it on the mk5 cos the steering plastics go down to far and its very sharp at the bottom.

It does mate, it goes where the rear view camera plugs in and then the usb goes into the laptop, just a matter of powering the RNS up then.
