When I started my Car this morning I could hear funny squeaking noise coming from left side of the engine?
Is this a cam belt problem? :undecided:
-
Not the cam belt, no. Possibly just the accessory drive belt or tensioner pulley. It'll probably go away when the weather warms a little, if not get your dealer to check the belt tension.
-
A mouse?
-
What the hell is going on with these VW cambelt pulley's , I had exactley the same problem with my Ed30 a year ago? My engine sounds bloody awfull on cold start the all cambelt and pulley need replacing. This is an on going fault that Vw need to sort out . My car has to go in and have it replaced ive only done 6,800 miles bloody inconvience
All you guys on here make sure you check your engines on cold start and listen for a spueaking noise ?
-
Cam tensioner problem back again, you'd think Vw would of fixed this in a later revision car surely!!.
-
Turn the radio up, if it falls off later they can fix it then!!! Maybe you poured water on it filling the screen wash?
-
I get a squeak when I cold-start mine. Been like this from day one. I too am a bit worried now.

Hi

Same here.
Neighbour's Audi S5 2.O TSI Quattro makes the same noise.
-
They have fixed it with petrol GTI later cars as they have a cam chain not a belt. But that does not help Steve :embarassed: Are you sure its the belt again and not just the aux belt wet and squeeking?
-
^when you say later GTI's snoopy, has yours got the chain? I think mines around the same build as yours so mines probably the same.
-
All Mk6 golf GTI's have the EA888 engine with Cam chain.
-
Ah, thanks for that, one less thing to worry about.
-
Squeak free :-)

The car goes in on Wednesday for a fault finding check, but i just know from my last motor it's exactlty the same noise and same issue  doc it usually happens at 6,500 miles!!

I won't be using the useless p.o.s for a while now the real snows landed.

All Mk6 golf GTI's have the EA888 engine with Cam chain.
Where can do you check the engine code?

If its a mk6 golf GTI it has that engine. It was never made with the older engine in it.
If its a GTD it has a belt. If its a Golf R it has a belt. If its a golf ....

I should have waited for the GTI , end up with hum dinger belt
Snow galore in London

I have experienced sqeaking on a cold start but it seems to be my heater fan, its not loud at all and goes away once the car has heated up. Has anybody else had this?

Are you sure its the fan, becuse it could be the very same issue ??
-
Ill double check on the next drive, but it seemed to go once i turned the fan off.
-
^ Try a bit WD40 on the fan? But you need to start from cold as in overy night cold!!
-
Would you not have to move bits of the dash to get to the fan?

What's the mileage? Good choice of car by the way , how you finding it?

I actually like it better than my Focus RS i had before in so many ways. Its a cake and eat it kind of car, power when you want it and economy when you just want to cruise. I have done just under 5000 miles and I'm averaging between 47-55 MPG.

Rather a step back in power from the RS? Just keep on eye on the noise or get it checked out

The noise isnt really bothering me as its so quiet and it goes away. If it doesnt go away over time ill get VW to check it out at its service. In reality the GTD isnt much slower than the RS when on the go, its from a standing start that the RS has the edge over the GTD and most cars if im honest. Though the build quality of the RS was rubbish I would never have a Ford again, going from a TT to the RS was in terms of build quailty a shock to the system!

Now driving a Polo, not a bad drive TBH its a bit gutluss though.
The suspense is killing me I will have an answer in morning about my motor?

My work colleague gave his A4 cabrio (cock-mobile!) in for a service and was given a new A6. I gave my GiT in for a few small checks and was given a figgin Lupo.
Pah !

Steve: Any news?

Steve: Any news?
They said they could hear a noise coming the engine but need further investigation with a steathascope from cold start again in the morning? The plot thickens???
The Polo is a pile crap , need my diesel power back
-
Got the car back this morning and they say its condensation not the tensioner? I will keep an eye on it ? :undecided:

How loud is this squeak matey?

Just sounds like a chirpin noise only last for a couple on mins??
-
Is it a loud chirping noise? As i am getting a loud engine squeak on a cold start, this started after the car sat in -14.

I would take it in and have it checked out, could be cambelt tensioner? Not sure what car you have?
-
I have an identical car to you.

Well you have a cambelt in yours then , so I would take it in have checked out. It would be intresting to see what they have to say ??

I find many cars squeel very quietly in the morning when it's cold outside. It goes when warm though.....

Yes maybe so , but not on a modern Mk6 surely? They don't all do it on mk6's :undecided:
-
Personally, due to experience, I wouldn't point all squeaky noises like this in newish cars to the cam belt.
I had this problem, again only in the colder months, and first decided to spray WD40 around the area of the cam belts. This obviously didn't work.
Then it got worse, so had both cam belts changed on 'professional advice'. This also didn't work.
Luckily for me I sold the car (and replaced it with Gandor) a month or so later, though (and I feel bad for this, as I'm 'usually' an honest person) took the car round the block to warm up, so the squeak wasn't audible during the test run and sale !
But, in my defence, it was a Nissan Almera which was hard to sell. And I had replaced both cam belts for no apparent reason
Still don't know what it was, but am surprised that a fairly new vehicle has this issue....
-
Had my mate look at my car as hes a mechanic, he said the belt at the drivers side of the engine (cannot remember if he said fan or cam) was getting damp and this was causing the noise till the belt dried off and heated up. As i had to top up the coolant at only 5000 miles he thinks the dampness may be down to a slow coolant leak. Im going to put the coolant to max and keep an eye on it and get the car into the dealers ASAP. He said its not serious, and the fact the car runs great once the noise stops and no warning lights have come on back this up. Ill re post once it has been at the dealers.
-
Okay , keep us posted ? I'm interested to what the dearler says?
-
Thats the aux belt often said to be the fan belt as on cars in the early days it also drove the fan.
