Title: manifold and de-cat
Post by: ian24driver on 17 November 2010, 23:00

As i have a stainless system from the cat back on the 8v i was thinking of going for the whole lot (de-cat pipe and stainless manifold).
Anyone done this and recommend where to go for them?

The standard manifold on the mk3 isn't restrictive. You won't see any gains from it (Ess_Three dyno tested it). Decat you will see some gains but it'll fail MOT.

As above not really a worthwhile mod.

I tried it once and gain 1bhp, modern cats are not too bad these day plus it is a pain to refit it for the mot.

But for 1BHp? You'll not even feel that.
What's the point of running illegal and risking getting busted at a roadside check, for 1 measly BHP - if you even get that.

I manage to run 196 BHP fully legal on a 16v, using a cat and full MOT emissions...so I'd not expect miracle gains from an 8v.

ive got a full remus syste with sports cat and a 4-2-1 mani. is alot more responsive.... bhp gains i havent tested it yet but before i ran the car on rollers completely standard (with crappy oil, filter, centre box) and got 142 at the fly. 116 at the wheels. which for a 14 year old car (at its worst soto speak) i thought was pretty good :)
not sure when im going on the dyno again but wil let you know the results when i do!
