As i have a stainless system from the cat back on the 8v i was thinking of going for the whole lot (de-cat pipe and stainless manifold).
Anyone done this and recommend where to go for them?

The standard manifold on the mk3 isn't restrictive. You won't see any gains from it (Ess_Three dyno tested it). Decat you will see some gains but it'll fail MOT.
-
As above not really a worthwhile mod.

mate has had a cat taken out from his g3 agg engine and says its alot more responsive now

I tried it once and gain 1bhp, modern cats are not too bad these day plus it is a pain to refit it for the mot.

true but if you know the guy at the mot place then?

But for 1BHp? You'll not even feel that.
What's the point of running illegal and risking getting busted at a roadside check, for 1 measly BHP - if you even get that.
I manage to run 196 BHP fully legal on a 16v, using a cat and full MOT emissions...so I'd not expect miracle gains from an 8v.

i ran a stainless unbranded decat on mine. cant say it made much, if any differnce and i had the emissions checked and it was right on the edge of being a fail iirc

Thread Pirate!
How hard is it to swap the manifolds over? i think i have a hole in mine!
-
Absolute nightmare to change.. Dont expect a quick and easy job! haha if youve got the tools the time and the patience its not too bad but i went in blind and took me ages.. Kept asking Wayne and Rubjonny what next like.. will find the tread i was asking them on

ive got a full remus syste with sports cat and a 4-2-1 mani. is alot more responsive.... bhp gains i havent tested it yet but before i ran the car on rollers completely standard (with crappy oil, filter, centre box) and got 142 at the fly. 116 at the wheels. which for a 14 year old car (at its worst soto speak) i thought was pretty good :)
not sure when im going on the dyno again but wil let you know the results when i do!
