hi all have recently bought my 1st gti a 1989 small bumper mk2 5 door in black 5mth tax 11 mth mot for a meger £535 ,prob is that considering the mot was done recently i've found an awful lot of problems , duff shocks thin brakes, dodgy lights and rusty floorpan with holes that i made with my finger ( strong fingers) as its private anything i can do ??? gutted

Sorry to hear that. Looking on the plus side, there is lots of stuff that needs to be fixed. At least from now on you'll know the true condition of the car all the new stuff on it.
-
thanks for being positive :smiley
and as is good and original inside no huge speaker holes and with standard teardrop alloys i guess it will be worth the extra time and money i need to spend .
will post some pictures when it comes back from the welders , after a good polish of course.

Not really

i realize its a private sale ( buyer beware ) but can anything be done about the mot station that passed this obvious fail ?????

Hate to say it BUT;
You Payze Your Money - You-ze take's You're Chance....
You will find it hard to prove that The MOT station did one over you!! :lipsrsealed:
You will just have to put it right and have some fun doing it - all part of the fun owning a 20 Year old car!!!

Yes. Been there. Done that. Got his ticket removed. Phone the Ministry Of Transport (MOT) and report your findings. They will want to inspect the car at a garage local to you with the person who certified the MOT present.
I bought a beamer and the horn did not even work, the exhaust manifold was blowing and the emissions were sky high. The MOT inspectorate then proceeded to rip the car to shreds as they found the sills were rotted out and unsafe.
Obviously the dealer had something going with the garage that did the MOT. Needless to say, I shifted that car on pronto by way of an auction. Lost a lot of money.

Without wanting to sound an arse, but do you lot actually check cars before they buy them??? When I spend my hard earned on a car, it gets a thorough going over. I always take a clued up pal too so he finds the stuff I don't.
I'd be poking the floor pan while I was looking before I buy, not after I had handed over money and got the vehicle home!!
-
Yes. But this was 13 years ago when I had less of a clue than I do now.. And if a car has a 12 month ticket on it, you assume that it needs no welding.
-
yes you are right ,i should have given it a much tougher check and taken a mate along to hold me back :embarassed: the recent mot pointed to a good car but the price should have given it away
next time will be different; but i probably won't get rid of it as it will be a well sorted car when its all finished
we all learn the hard way !!!!!!
