right...
mk1 rivage J plate
been off the road 11 months
battery went flat for a short while and has been on conditioner ever since (so battery could be an issue)
reconnected battery... seems to have plenty of juice
get alarm (clifford concept) out of valet mode and into 'normal' mode
oil and water - check
fuel - very minimal (but we're not even getting that far)
ignition comes on when key inserted
go to start engine
there is a feint 'click' and then everything, including all electrics, alarm etc goes dead
this is including when connected to another battery for jump start
thoughts?

Got anyidea where the click is coming from?
Tried hitting the starter with a hammer to see if it's stuck?
Have yo managed to get it to Chuff's or are you needing to fire it up to get on the truck?

You tried putting th eother battery in? It does sound like the battery is properly dead.

wont need to start it to get it onto the truck.. hopefully... we we're just going to try and start it anyway :lipsrsealed:
wouldn't know what to hit... but i think it could very well be the flattery
recovery driver has broken down (doesn't bode well)

Oh no, it's going to be one of those days isn't it?
Good luck dudes.

The click will be the starter motor solenoid.
Are the points on the motor clean and recieving 12v?
Could also be a seized starter motor like Nick said.

No probs.
Did you check the engine turns over freely by hand before starting it?

fraid so... gonna have to claim on insurance me thinks (but thats for another thread)

I don't think it'll be seized. I'm pretty sure the battery is so stuffed that even trying to jump it won't work. I've had this before.
Dro the battery from the III in it and I reclon it'll fire up after a few coughs and splutters. It might be worth truning it over on the battery for a min or two with king lead off just to build up some oil pressure befor eletting it run properly.

Agree with you there. It's probably not seized if its been dry stored.
Its good practice though to check.
Or you could turn the engine over on the starter with the fuel pump fuse removed.

its been stored outside but under a cover
mk3 batter was flat but is now on a conditioner itself!
i think new battery and then follow all your advices

Steal the one out of Chuff's motor!
If you do buy a new one go to an autofactors not halfords (unless Chuff has a trade card) as they're well expensive!

GSF? I thought they were quite expensive last time I got a battery off them

Get the van battery on it. CCA should be higher, which will give the starter the kick up the arse it needs.
