Title: Scratch on the wing mirror now! agghhhhh
Post by: MAW73 on 30 October 2010, 12:25
FFS just noticed a nice fresh scratch on my passenger side wing mirror...... why can't people just go sodding careful with other peoples cars

Just polished it as best I can but the scratch is too deep. I've filled it with a bit of touch up for now. Will polish it again tomorrow. I will probably have to get it fixed professionally. More bloody money - I'm getting pee'd off with the car at the moment tbo

Ugh. I feel your pain. I have a dimple on my front left wheel arch thanks to some muppet with something heavy in a shopping bag glancing it. If I'd been there when it happened, I would probably have pounded them into the pavement using said bag and whatever heavy object in the bag that caused the damage.

How did it happen? Looks like a motorbike handlebar end or similar?

Sorry to hear this.
So upsetting.
Unless we take our cars to bed, this will keep happening to us all.

Try one of the touch up sticks from VW Martin, otherwise its a new housing looks bad though!! How was it done?  :undecided:

AGB..... I think your spot on - it was a motorbike handlebar that scratched it. A couple of days ago I was sitting in traffic when a bike squeezed past in between me and another car up the inside. I didn't think anything of it at the time until now of course. Muppet motorcyclists are so bloody impatient when your in traffic. I hate the two wheeled little f@ckers!!

I tried a touch up pen on it and the brush strokes made it look worse - It looked like Michael J Fox had gone over it with a tipex

It needs a full respray on the mirror housing. How much do you think that would cost?

Kill all of them I say.
Motive: Passion.

Just had to call the police. Guy walking around, looking into all the nice cars, trying the door handles and boot, looking at wheels, obviously not from our area. Seems like he is casing our street for a future heist.

We are all a bit worried now.

I await your p*ss taking comments, but seeing as I've now got to get the wing mirror housing resprayed....... I could go all 'R' and get both done in black gloss.....  :undecided: A yes or a no no ???

Have one white for the Monza Shadows and the other black for your black winter wonders.
Don't take it to heart if your car looks like a Zebra on one side. Which side? The dark side.

Seriously Martin: Spray it white. You own a GTi and not an R.

Gutted for you MAW....I'm still awaiting my first scratch/dink on mine. No matter how careful you are, some numpty will always do some damage.

Could have been worse if the handlebar was slightly lower !

Oh well looking on the bright side its only a mirror housing which can easily be resprayed. I've emailed a few bodyshops for a quote this afternoon or I will use a chipsaway again. So I will get it sorted out in the near future.

I might put some barbed wire on mirrors next time. That will make the f@cking motorcylists think twice.

I can't stand the dirty looking, noisy, two wheeled terrors.
'Look twice, look bike'. You must be joking!

I've had a price in from a repair body shop local to me........ £ 40 + VAT ( for a full respray of the mirror housing )

They have always done a fantastic job for me in the past so I've booked the car in.

I didn't think that was to bad a price tbo.... I'm gonna have to run a few motorbikes of the road now to make up for it

Survived the flu thanks.

Just waiting to get a decent picture of my new wheels and I shall update my sig, just for you as I know you find the interlagos wheels offensive

No I don't find them offensive. I do like them very much, but especially not on a white car. They look great on all other colours.

£40 is very reasonable.

Now you tell me....... I could have had my car resprayed to suit the wheels. Actually joking apart they would have looked good on a red GTI.

Wing mirror all sorted now!

For the record the cost for replacing the wing mirror cover and paint spraying came to......£ 62 incl VAT. More bloody expense, but not to bad. The job was done by the bodyshop I use down my way and was done perfectly.

I've kept the old scratched wing mirror cover as momento all though I may use it as a codpiece or something? :undecided:

Get that one re-sprayed and either keep it as a spare for when it happens again or sell it on to recoup your cash :afro:

Bound to be other owners looking for a replacement cover
