Hi all,
I've just bought a new Golf GTD DSG, should be here next week but I need to fit some extra bits.
Cruise
Xenons (Genuine)
Sat nav (Genuine again)
Bluetooth (Surprise Genuine if I can ge it!)
The car has plenty of extras but not these, can anyone help me out here with parts of fitting instructions?
-
Nice to see you again Doc
-
Welcome back! aint seen the doc since the mk5 days
-
Well Doc you would have been better of adding these to your build as an extra now they will be a lot more expensive then they have to fit them. Don't think you can buy them and fit them yourself they will all need to be coded.

Couldn't agree more - I'm off to Awesome in the morning

How do you work that out?
Cruise
Sat Nav
Bluetooth will all be cheaper as a retro fit.
Not sure about Xenons but are they not on par with factory fit?
Overall he will be better off financially.
-
Great car you bought there esp with DSG too love mine to bits!! :smug:

Cruise control is a factory fit option for £220.
Sat nav will depend on which radio you have fitted RCD510, RNS510.
I don't know about Bluetooth I don't need one.
Xenons are a factory fit at £1110.

Which is dearer than having them retro fitted.
The saving on buying an RNS510 from elsewhere alone would make all the parts worthwhile being retrofitted.
It doesn't depend on what radio is already fitted as RCD310 is the standard radio with everything else an upgrade.
Here's a rough cost.
Factory Retro
Cruise £225 £160
Sat Nav £1700 £600
Bluetooth £240 £300
Xenons £1110 Not sure but I'm sure AM1W will be along to tell us as he was researching it.

Doc I have the latest vw bluetooth in at the moment £275 delivered and its a nice piece of kit, I can also supply the latest RNS510 C LEDs for £600 once I can get off my fat arshe and go and get them

Good morning. Bloody clocks!
As p3asa says. Had my cruise retro-fitted by dealer.
Regarding Xenons, the costs are possibly slightly more eg 10% overall. Pain to have them fitted though.
However, I don't have the costs for the latest LED DRL ones which will be available from BW45. Tomorrow is the start of BW44. Costs should be similar.
Congratulations on your new acquisition.
-
BTW: I bought my RNS510* + Bluetooth from Darren who also fitted them. Brilliant job.
He also fits Bi-Xenons. He is the forum's Helpful Hero.

The cost is not the issue for me it was finding a car that I could buy TODAY that wasn't bog standard, I bought the highest spec I could find ;-)
I'll now spend what it takes to get it to the spec I want ;-)

Seriously I'll let you now more when I've got the thing on the dyno!
For me it's about an exellent overall map rather than chasing BHP but I'll chase the BHP for the fun of it ;-)

Ok rather that the over priced full Bi-Xenons have you thoughts about the Volkswagen-Xenon-Lights-Kit-by-Philips (http://www.philipsxenon.com/volkswagen-c-356/volkswagen-xenon-lights-kit-by-philips-hid-p-1241) with their installation Video (http://www.philipsxenon.com/conditions).

Doc:
I hope you don't have a fit with the fit and finish of your GTD.
I had to:
(1) Rehang all my doors 3 months after I had the car. They seemed to have moved!
(2) Had the rear bumper replaced as it was distorted in the number plate area. Got VW to pay for it after 105 letters and finally a letter to the MD of VW UK.
Apart from the above, the car is very good, no rattles and very comfortable. However, I have crappy Bridgestone tyres which I will be changing shortly.
-
105!!!! Didn't realise it was as many as that

Got what I wanted in the end and then some more! :smug:

Had lots of problems with my first Mk5 R32 but my 2nd was perfect
-
I hope your car will be perfect first time this time.
-
It's here and it's perfect, got it last night and it's filthy and on 251 miles already
Booked into local VW for Cruise on Tuesday

That's what I thought when I got mine........ and after the initial excitement, I noticed that the bonnet was mis-aligned from new, the 4 doors moved after 1000 miles and had to be re-hung, and the rear bumper got more and more distorted in the number plate area.
Now all fixed and fine.
Oh ....you'll love the ease of chipping of the bonnet and front bumper! Got mine re-sprayed after a minor prang. Now these are fine too!
However, it is a wonderful car overall and I love it to bits.

Sounds painful :-(

Another vote for these being sh1t compared to factory xenons. And bloody expensive at that. You an but a quailty kit for £50-£60, but even then they should never be fitted into reflector headlamps. Anyone for light scatter?
-
I agree 100% to all the above.
Hemifocal lenses and xenons ONLY thanks ;-)
