Hi People,
I've got a 84 Mk2 Golf 1.3 CL with a HUGE water leak.
The plastic thermostat housing (That the top hose of the rad attaches to) has split big time.
I've tried GSF, the local car factors all the local breakers but cant seem to find one of these for love nor money.
I took a gamble on a bit on ebay but that looked like it was for a 1.6, thought I had a bit coming from another source as well but that arrived today ans appears to be a variant of the 1.6 type..
I've had a bit of a play with the two that I've has turn up here but there is no way of "Making Them Fit" the bore in the flange is different and the pitch of the mounting holes it out to.
The part that has split I could possibly try and repair but I'm really doubtful it would last any time at all looking how its gone....
The original part number as stamped is 052121121E..
Can anyone help me source one of these, at the moment its looking like I may have to scrap the old girl over a £5 bit of plastic.

So it may be best to try the VW dealership if you have one near you. You are then guaranteed a decent quality part. The classic parts website only lists as being 8 euros.
If you have no luck through the dealers, try sending the classic parts people an email.

My main dealer Euro Canterbury said quote "There are none in the country" so kinda gave up on a genuine part at that point...
Tried the link above but cant seem to get on, get a forbidden message, have save the link for future. To be honest if i get a couple of sub-standard sh1te parts that will do me, will give me time to knock up a 1/2 decent aluminium part. Thing is I do about 15k in the old girl and cant afford to have her laying on her back with bits in the air... Thanks for the replies guys...

Try another dealer and see if they can find you one.

Is the part still available even though none are available in the country? the dealers can import parts.

I might have a spare in my shed...will try to check tomorrow but picking mrs and young 'un up from the hospital tomorrow :smiley:

If I'm honest I cant remember what the guy said, I think he said it was no longer available, will phone a couple of other main dealers tomorrow..

I might have one. I have a 1.3 sitting in my garage.
I'll post up some pics for you.

you may be able to use a later mk2 housing on there, often the housings changed shape due to the sensors used but the later sensors can be used if you modify your loom to suit. got a pic of your housing?

Managed to get on their website at work today and that is the part 100% for sure. Filled in an enquiry form and got a reply saying they will get back to me..
Frustratingly I couldn't find a "Buy Now" button :) . The blarb did kind of intimate that I could go to a VW main dealer and ask them to order it for me, through classic parts, didn't know if the dealership was obliged to do that or if it would be a favour kind of thing...
Regardless I will call Euro Canterbury again tomorrow and try and find the score, be nice to know some facts before I talk to them though :)

About a 1/3 of the way down the page "Cover for thermostat housing" thats the kiddy, looks right and the part numbers match... There are no sensors or anything on the part, just the outlet for the Rad, like I said had a go at offering up a 1.6 housing but there was no way it was going to be modded to fit...
I started modelling it up in 3D today at work so if the worse comes to the worse I may be able to manufacture one, hell of a lot of machining there though :S

yeah sorry what i meant was change the entire plastic housing for the later one, i.e. the bit thats bolted to the head. this is assuming it will swap over I'm not so clued up on the small block. on the big block you can swap the earlier metal flanges for later plastic if you also change the sensors to match plus some plug splicing. but if you can get the bit from the classic parts site then you should be good to go, providsing its noit too expensive. vw should be able to order you the part from them, assuming your parts guy isnt a muppet. alternatively try a local TPS branch they may be more helpfull

Had confirmation from www.volkswagen-classic-parts.de that my order has been processed so should see the part soon, fingers crossed its right :)

Hi,
The new housing turned up from Classic Parts DE on Tuesday (Ordered the previous Wed).
Was the right part, woop woop, and looked identical to the original in terms of quality.
Fitted within 10 mins, Boris is now back up and running :)
