Title: pressed plates
Post by: TalisaJade on 03 October 2010, 15:40
are there any legal requirements i need to make sure of before i order these, been on a couple websites, one wanted all my documents, not photocopies, ACTUAL documents, and another didnt want anything other than a reg number... but both said theyre legal?! sendin all the docs over seems a bit OTT but then again, sending nothin sounds a bit dodge?! any tips / better websites?!

Want legal plates then you got to provide the documents

There's been a few group buys with Dubmeister and no one has reported problems.  I've had a set and I'll be getting another set for my new car shortly

Or you could wait until a show and then get them done with the same company without any need for documents  :lipsrsealed:

Jeynesey got a set for his ED30 at GTI International and they never asked for his documents.........

Haha, see that's what I don't get?? Maybe they do it to cover themselves rather than us?? Might just go with the other ones,I don't see that u need to register ur car for a number plate, its not like its a different reg its still the same just made out of metal!!

Has to have the manufacturers post code stamped into it to prove it meets the minimum legal requirements / standards etc

Think about it, do you want someone else to just walk into Halfords or anywhere that produces number plates, re-produce your number plate without your knowledge, stick it on their car and run up a sh!t load of motoring offences

Any plates made without seeing docs are illegal, the makers have to keep records.

I got my pressed plates from the dubmeister stand at edition 38, I asked if I needed to provide documents, they said no and 10 minutes later I had a pair!

We make plates in work, any company making number plates has to keep records for the dvla so in case of any problems the Police or Dvla can find out who supplied the plates in question.

Nope not really, read my post above, a supplier has to keep records, if he does not then he is making showplates which should not be used on the road.

I have read it
I have road legal plates, whether or not the dealers sales technique was an entirely legal process in another question.
Afterall, it was Edition 38, in a field with no computers. They wrote down all the reg's they pressed, but nothing else.

You've lost me now  :undecided:
So even though I have legal plates I can get in trouble, even though the plates adhere to all requirements?
Surely if my plate gets read by the police camera thing, there wont (hopefully) be anything to trigger an alert, and if an alert was triggered in won't be to do with plates.
Or is it something like typing in the BA number?

Nope you should be fine, the only problem is that if the police wanted to check who supplied them.

I got some from this chap on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320598871204 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320598871204)

Obviously they arn't legal due to having no postcode but I thought the price was good.

How are they legal if they are classed as show plates? Not having a dig, just having looked at the pressed metal ones they offer & I can't see a postcode which would make them illegal in its own right

Bought a set from them last week :afro:

Send your documents special delivery as that way they are insured so any fees to replace them will be covered

Had my plates within 2 days of Dubmeister having my documents
