Not sure what it is but i'd try detailing clay before rubbing away with T-Cut, you could be causing more damage in the long run by "Scrubbing" with t-cut?
-
I got a megs quick clay kit but it doesn't really touch it
-
if you value your car, please dont use tcut anyway, lol
horrible stuff!
-
+1 for not using T-cut its horrible stuff.
regarding your roof, it could be tar spots but unlikely due to there location on the car and only seem to be in a localised area, its possibly tree sap that have gone black through traffic film contamination ie exhaust fumes, break dust etc.
as chris said try a clay bar on it which should remove it easier and will not damage your paint, also try tar and glue remover, to minimise this happening again clay the whole car, polish, seal it twice then two layers of good quality wax, this will stop contaminents bonding to the surface, also get a good wash routine going if you dont already, once a week if possible but twice a month is cool.
-
Ok, thanks for the advice. Don't think this car got washed much, if at all by the previous owner!
What's so bad about Tcut? I've already dine a small area with it and it came up quite well.
-
t-cut is very old hat and isnt an easy product to work with tbh compared to the polishes you get now days, it also dusts quite alot where as the more recent polishes have little to no dusting.
-
Ok, well I've managed to get all the black off and now I've gone over it with AG SRP, should I just wax it now, I have PB Nattys wax.
-
yep if your happy with the finish, if not!! give the whole car a going over with the clay then polish it, then wax away mate.
-
Oh yeah, forgot to say that I will be claying too, done the roof already.
One problem is that there's a white mark on the side of the car, it looks like it's caused by bird s*** when you clean it it just comes back, what can I do to get rid?
-
does it look pitted? bird sh!te is high in lime and will burn your paint if left on, hand polishing will reduce its appearance a bit but it really needs some carefull machine polishing to remove it completely,
depending on the sevarity of the bird sh!te and how long its been on there will determin how bad the damage is. in some cases the burn is to deep to remove.
try and get some pics up if poss.

Ok, thanks again for the advice. May have to invest in a machine polisher. Can get one for £35, 1200w 900-3000 rpm 180mm. Good price?

if you have no machine polishing experience id recomend getting a DA polisher as its far less aggressive than a rotory polisher, 900 is quite a fast start up speed and not ideal for spreading polish, plus does the machine have soft start? the standard fitment for automotive rotorys is m14.
-
Ah right. What's DA? and what sort of price am I looking for one of them.
-
one of these http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Kestrel_Dual_Action_Polisher_1.html
far less aggressive than a rotory, they are ideal for a begginer to machine polishing as they are quite forgiving, rotorys are unforgiving and can cause damage in seconds so you need to know what your doing before you grab one and start using it.
-
Kestral get my vote too.
I'd got for this kit with pads and polishes http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Kestrel_DAS-6_Menz_Kit_2_1.html All you need to get started.

Hi guys, after washing, polishing and waxing the car this weekend I noticed scratches and stone chips and have pondered the idea of removing them myself... never done it before but to be honest I'm quite good and turning my hand to mostthings and after a few read ups it doesnt seem too complicated a task...
With the DAP recomended above will this deal with polishing out the repaired chips and removing the scratches?
-
Looks aif its burnt in from them pics, I.e. someone has been grinding near the car?
Did you manage to remove it with claying?
-
Yeah got it off, bit of T cut did the trick

It's a code from another forum, but still works never the less. I didn't know this forum had a code for i4detailing until now.
