Now this is interesting.
My cousin who wears jeans all the time and got his GTi at the same time is having this problem.
I don't wear jeans as I have always found them too heavy and uncomfortable.
My seat bolsters are so far OK but my rear bloody bumper is not. Wish it was the other way round.

I did nearly go for the leather Kev but the mk5 is not waring well so it put me off.
I had no problems with the mk5 we had with cloth but many others did from been a member of mk5 forums.
I still think half leather should be standard on the mk6 like they did with the edition30 imo as its the best of both worlds.

No signs of wear on my cloth yet, but I've only done 8000 miles in a year. Every time I get in and out, though, I can feel and hear the bolsters taking a hammering. It's only a matter of time, IMO...

Snoops: I've done exactly 2025 miles and I have no wear as yet.
Do you have any idea why this has happened? Do you wear a jean jacket? Anyway, the seats should be harder wearing.
Is there any wear on the seat squabs?

No ware anywere else just that bolster. All i can think is the heavy duty premium 100% long sleeved cotton polo type shirts i ware if im weld testing prototypes at work, as the shirts are quite ruff to the touch may be doing it.

That must be it.
You can get an battery operated appliance  which removes this sort of fluff from sweaters from John Lewis or similar shops.
It's called a Cordless fabric Shaver and costs £6.50 from John Lewis. Works a treat on wooly jumpers!
No I am not a housewife, just partucular!

Cellotape then or ducktape should do the trick.
.... and don't wear that shirt!

I always cover that part of the seat over with my hand everytime I go in or out of the car. So far no ware that I can see.

Nothing on mine yet, about 2100 miles and a variety of jeans, trousers, shirts etc. I had the Lifeshine which included interior treatment, maybe this helps to reduce the wear as well as making them easier to clean? [Not that I let mine get dirty in the first place mind]

His squabs are fine, just his bolsters due to his heavy, rough cotton shirts. I've suggested he ditch these.

2000

I have to admit mine dont look that bad with nearly 7000 miles on the clock.  But really its probably more about how often you get in and out.  Only time will tell.

Snoops: Why don't you cover the area with clear tape to ptotect it when you wear that shirt?  Just a suggestion.

One month later  Its getting worse

I have only had on dress shirt + trousers for work (as been in the office when using the GTI).
or similar cloths when going out and using the GTI in the past month.

Tried putting a hand on it as i get out but i don't seem to touch it anyway and i often cannot do this as i have to hold the door so it does not hit anything or get damaged. (the joys of a wide car and narrow parking bays  )

It looks much worse in daylight and in real life too.

I don't understand what im doing wrong to get this to happen.  :undecided:

I have had VW cars with the optional REAL recaros (Much heaver bolstered) before with very similar material and never had this problem in 40K and 4 years of ownership (much more frequent short trips then too!).  :undecided:
The mk1 seats are quite bolstered and i have never had this problem in it.
Our Leon cupraR also had the optional recaros in and i had no problems with them either.  :undecided:

I think this car and me maybe just don't get along, maybe we were not ment to be from the start.

Anyone had a seat cover replaced under warrenty?

Is there a 'time' limit on such ware items to claim by before they say its just age?

Snoops:

That has got worse. Unfortunately, once the wear process starts there is little one can do to remedy or arrest it.

This really should not happen after 2000+ miles. It is quite unacceptable, I feel.

Contact a sympathetic dealership close to you (forget your supplying dealer as they seemed useless and unhelpful). They will probably contact the supplying dealer if they deem fit (my London dealer did). However, if there is a sympathetic Warranty Manager there, a supportive application for a Warranty Repair could be made on your behalf.

I dread to think what hoops you will now have to go through to get a satisfactory solution.

If I can be of any help, please don't hesitate to ask. I've become quite an expert in dealing with VWCS.

Shave it with your razor.
I had an old car years ago that was covered in bobbles down the bolster side and a quick shave made it as good as new

Does your trousers have buttons on your rear pockets. I managed to wear my MK2 bolster through to the foam in that manner.

I made sure they did'nt i wanted to try and see if i could make it no worse than it was.

To piss me off further i managed to get a lump of gravel caked mud on my shoe and its scratched the pedals.
