Title: Keep the 8v or go for a VR6
Post by: B-chi on 11 August 2010, 09:29
I'm on my second mk3 8v and I'll be honest I'm hooked.

Easy question.

Should I keep my 8v currently on 175,000 or go for a vr6?

Or 16v?

Basically what next.

If new car would I get a descent quality vr6 for £2,000?

cheers boys.

Could definatly pick up a nice VR6 for £2000, it's just a case of weather you wanna fork out abit more for insurance and running costs? the sound alone of the VR6 makes me want one

Long term I'm thinking r32 or even r36.

So my 8v isn't an ideal start being cable clutch. 16v's hydro clutch isn't it?

I'm 27 with 10years no claims so insurance shouldn't be too much more.

Seen a nice vr for £2,400. Bodies in good nick, new 17's with tires, White, 144,000 but as long as I get 2-3years before I look at conversion.

you could put a 1.8t in it for less than £2000 if you look around for the parts and dont spent half your budget on QPEng stuff :)
Thats what I'm doing with my 8v

Go for the Vr or convert yours

I wouldn't be able to do the work myself so it would go off to storm to be done.

It's about 2grand cheaper to do it on a hydro than cable so 16v or vr rather than 8v.

The engine on mine is starting to become quite noisy.

What's the difference between highline and non highline?

Wayne you mean convert mine into what?

Stick a VR in to it, easy enough to do.

How can they justify £2000 for parts that cost less than £100 from a Seat dealer?

Go for the Vr6.

Higline has more extras and better seats.

It's a garage. That's what they do. Last time i spoke to them they quoted £5,000 from vr to r32. £7,000 from 8v to r32.

Those prices are drive in drive out. So if i can find a tidy vr I can have bit more fun before I change it out.

Yeah mate, go for the VR.
I am planning on selling my 8v to finance a Golf VR6 or Corrado VR6.

The 8V has done it's job as a daily but now i live about a mile away from work, so i want something un-sensible (not sure if thats a word but you know waht i mean).

imo, £2400 for a VR6 is way too much, especially if it's standard. There are loads of them around for about £1.5k...

Erhmmm, it's not exactly standard, is it? lol

And actually I lowered the price and was open to offers for a while...

But I've already stripped it, and will sell as standard. Well, sort of, except the exhaust and coilies

I'll try and get a link up of what I've seen. It's White.

Yeah the £2-2,500 ones are not standard. Basics done to them like dropped, 16/17s, exhaust, induction, etc.

Vr6 interior is same layout as 8v isn't it. I've got some speaker pods i made for 4 6.5s in each door which sit over the door card. Would be nice if they went straight in.

Running costs aren't a problem. I was also lookin at a 4.0 grand Cherokee. Yipes.

Yeah, that white one is chavved up too much...The alloys, the sideskirts, the steering wheel.

I quite like it.

Know what you mean about the side skirts though. Don't look right.

Like the wheels and the steering wheel don't bother me.

I would get a clean, standard one and mod it the way I want.

ive just had to start breaking mine due to redundancy and no money, the mot is up the 17th and it needs a abs pump(basically the abs light is on,its still purrfect),:( was completely standard when i bought it last year at 98k,its now done 102k,i paid 1700 for it with f,s,h all old m.o.t`s etc etc ,i since bought heated mulberry leather interior(£300),scorpion s/s backbox(£100),bbs split rims and new yokohama tyres last month(£520) smoked twin hella`s(£120) and a few other bits like smoked fogs,glovebox/cd holder etc,its mint bodywork aswell,i really didnt want to start breaking it but i need to pay my loan off and was not willing to take the £1600 i got offered,if it was 1700 then yeh i would of but due to the parts on it,it looks like im gonna break it,,only sold headlights and grill so far tho, lol,so if you want a vr6 engine in the shell complete running im your man;) lol

This looks good.
Just out of curiosity, what is involved in a full engine re-build, what new parts are fitted and does this mean the engine is like new.
