That is a tidy Mk3 with a one of a kind tuned engine, I like!
But £30k for a G3  Haaaaaaaaaaaa
Does look lovely though :)

Whats the point of that conversion, when you can get pretty much same power with a modded 20v 1.8T?

LL is getting around 240 in his mk3, isn't he?

P.S. Front lights are ugly, the seats are gay and BBS RC's don't suit mk3's :(

When it's 1997 and the engine doesn't exist yet?  Seriously rare bit of mk3 there and a nicely modded one too

Yes, I do agree that it's unique and probably sounds awesome, but in terms of cost/power, it's massive waste of money.

30 grand for THAT? No, thanks.

I'm not saying what else you could buy for that, but I'm talking about how much power you would have, if you have spent all that money on modding a 20v 1.8T or even a VR.

Spot on that was more than Bmw M3 money then.

Although i like i don't think i would pay that much for it!

But then you have to remember this car was probably around 20K brand new any way! So a VR6 with 8000 miles, 3.2 rebored engine in 1998 is pretty much the same as buying a brand new mk4 R32 in 2002....

i don't think so. however it is one of a kind and i doubt another one exists, so an obscene amount of rocking horse sh1t tax would have been on that price.

still want though

and a f$ck off big supercharger

Why? R32 lump is leagues ahead and is a much better engine, don't forget that is still only the old block and 12v head.

Yup...
Lighter engine, better revving...more power.

This 3.2 must be a low revving torque monster...and I'd hate to try to refresh it at 3.2 litres...it must be close to the limits on bore size.

Sounds like it's still on standard valve sizes too...Hmm...
Makes you wonder how much good the cams/capacity are actually doing.

The rebore puzzles me to be honest, having seen a bare block and worked on a few, they do not have a lot of meat in the cylinder block unless they have changed the crank which I doubt however it does say modified crank whatever that means.

They must have.
I didn't think you could go much over 3.0/3.1 on pistons alone...must be a stroker crank.
I suspect 'modified' crankshaft either means 'changed to a longer stroke crank' or it's been offset ground on the big ends.
At the cost of the conversion, I'd expect a long stroke crank.
So a lower revving, torquey 3.2.

Doesn't state the cam choice either...
I can't believe a reputable tuner would go to the lengths of a new crank, pistons, cams, Schrick manifold...and keep the standard valve sizes either!
Must have Schrick valves...+2mm.

At the cost, I'd expect so.

You can clearly see in the pics its a VR6 engine due to the trim either side of the manifold. Also the manifold looks like a poorly made cross between the standard and schrick one.

If its being dubbed as a R32, has he added the 12 extra valves?

(i havnt read the 3 pages, cba, so if its a repost, apologies)

It's a bog standard Schrick, with their logo machined off by the looks of it, and a R32 badge stuck on.

Just over £40k with every option, including leather Recaro buckets, Sat Nav and DSG.

Yep but I would never spend £40k plus on a Golf not when you look at other options.

What are the realistic options if you want a premium hatch, with 4WD, 5 doors and 270 BHP?
It sits on it's own...or along with other VAG models at around the same price.

Fair point but if you did not want a hatch etc.

Focus Rs which before anyone shouts chav I know is in a different league and aimed at a lower point in the market is around £25k new of you could get a s/h M3 or M5.

Ok...or you could buy a 911.

But then there are running costs...you don't get a 3 year warranty, 30+ MPG and 3 years servicing for £250 from an M3.
Do the sums...and it makes sense to many.
If it didn't make sense to many, there wouldn't be a long waiting list.

If you didn't specifically want a hatch, you wouldn't have looked at a Golf.

If I wanted one, would I spend £40k on it?
Yeah. I almost did.
But decided a tuned GTI was more fun and individual for the same outlay.

If you wanted an M3, M5 or 911, you wouldn't find yourself in a VW showroom.
Been there, done that...got sick of paying the high running costs.

The guy wanted a Nothelle converted VR6, he went out and bought a Nothelle Conversion VR6, I don't see the problem here  Sure he could have bought an M3 at the time, but clearly he didn't want one. It's like saying 'why did you have a turkey sandwhich when the beef sandwhich is the same price?' and your mate answering 'Because I like Turkey? '

looks sh!t, but its a interesting engine and a rare conversion, so i kind of like it regardless of what it cost when it was new, its not new anymore so thats not so much a issue now is it..

back in 97 when this was new, id rather have had a Escort cossie... and still would

I will own a cossie at some point :) jus on the side for a laugh, wont be an escort thou, has to be a saf :) r32 into vr6 golf now must be one of the cheepest power/cost mods now if you were mechanically minded enough to fit it yourself, £1000 for the engine, gona pretty much go straight in, and if you wana cut out a tunnel for the 4wd your gona be laughin, just need to know what your doing or know some1 and it wont cost to much
