Title: Bluetooth in MY11 GTI Works with IPhone !
Post by: bostanio on 15 July 2010, 08:11
Hi all i have read these boards for a while now.

Yesterday i collected my new GTI  and to my amazement the Premium Bluetooth works fine with my IPhone 4. It was built in week 24 and UK spec.

Just thought i would give you all a heads up as surely this spells the end to the farce whice is/was rSAP.

Thanks

Brian

Its not premium bluetooth but just as good  if you reach under the drivers seat and look for at the black box in the foam case the part number will be 7P6 035 730C which is a new module VW brought out to keep every one happy,

They still do an actual premium module which has a few more features on than what you have there,

Is the premium one still only RSAP or does it now work with all phones?

Is that :-

The Bluetooth telephone For Bluetooth HFP (Hands Free Profile) enabled phones preparation – 240.00

I specced this on my order in June as it seemed the only option for bluetooth now according to the brochure.
I want it to work with the IPhone aswell so am hoping its the right one

That issue only affects the old 729B unit in the Mk5's Steve.

My 729E unit and the newer 7P6 unit I have on order both work fine with the iPhone on IOS4

Hi Chaps, where can I get one of these new Bluetooth units to replace the premium unit I have? I've asked the local vw garage and they want about £400.

Thanks!

I have one on Order and will be able to confirm what changes are required to fit the new version over the top of the existing premium rsap Bluetooth.

I can already tell you it's going to cost less than £400 plus you can sell your old module for at least £100.

Ive done about 10+ retro fit BT kits mate its not hard just take your time and then code it up afterwards and you should be answering calls with the best of em

I need to know if this will work on the red display of the mk5????? :undecided: There is a seller on ebay that says it only works with the white display  but I was under the impression that vw brought it out to work with both white and red?

Cheers

Finally got mine today

Plug and play with the original Mk6 rSap premium bluetooth loom for the phone side of things, with the iPhone and rSap blackberry both working: -

And bluetooth audio

But this need work on the loom as with the factory rSap loom it's only playing out of the left hand speakers.

Will get this sorted when I fit my new RNS-510 later today

^^^ Are you using the original wiring harness in the car or a supplied plug and play one from the seller of the kit?

Now I have connected the missing wires in the original harness mine is 100% working (inc stereo A2DP) with no error codes

I'm using the harness I bought from Darren, I think it just the standard one..

My Bluetooth Audio is only coming out of the right speakers
When I connect the Bluetooth Audio it clears one of the fault codes.  :undecided:

On the RNS end how many wires are connected on the green connector?

Hi Darren,

On my loom I had left channels missing, this is in the green telephone plug on the RNS end: -

Headunit Pin 5 - Bluetooth Pin 5
Headunit Pin 11 - Bluetooth Pin 4

Hope that helps
Title: Re: Bluetooth in MY11 GTI Works with IPhone !
Post by: mike. on 23 July 2010, 13:51
Had a quick look at this today..

On the Quadlock end, MIC IN and MIC OUT are looped together, this is then connected to the actual MIC and the MIC IN on the Bluetooth Module.
So the MIC is connected to two inputs at the same time without using the loop through and is also connected to the MIC OUT on the RNS.

The left channels are also missing for Bluetooth Audio

I think these are the connections required for the left channel which is slightly different from Steve above

Headunit Pin 5 - Bluetooth Pin 5
Headunit Pin 11 - Bluetooth Pin 4

No problem Steve.

I have now rewired the MIC,

MIC connected to MIC IN on Headunit
MIC OUT on Headunit connected to MIC IN on Bluetooth Module

Wired the left speakers in as above.

All is now working, all faults are clear and Bluetooth Streaming is now working

Just spoke to the stealer and they want £318 +VAT for the unit. Apparently its special order from Germany ..

Anyone had any joy in getting any financial "help" in swapping the unit out for the latest one ..?

With help from Mike (Cheers Mike!) i've now also installed the 9W7 in my GTI which had a rSAP premium unit in as standard.

I too have the bluetooth streaming only coming through on one side which seems fixable now but i also have slightly distorted/garbled audio coming from the unit. Anyone getting similar?

It all works but the quality is very poor and not quite how its supposed to be i'm sure!

Title: Re: Bluetooth in MY11 GTI Works with IPhone !
Post by: mike. on 26 July 2010, 16:31
I know my streaming sounded distorted before I fixed the cable.
What head unit do you have? I take it yours is under the drivers seat which may make it a bit more awkward to check the cable..

I have just checked the ring tones on mine and they seem clear.
I have noticed that I have to turn the phone volume up to near max to hear the other person but it is not distorted.
I have gone into the adaption using VCDS to modify the values but it crashes each time.
Maybe the module is that new the coding hasn't been worked out yet.

Maybe you could try the factory reset on the unit to see if that helps.

Steve has done the same as you, I think, changing the Rsap Module for the 9W7.

Title: Re: Bluetooth in MY11 GTI Works with IPhone !
Post by: isse on 29 July 2010, 14:03
So what is the best bet if you are going to install this module from scratch(not replacing a previus), do i use the plug and play cable that you get with the module (from e-bay) or do you dismount that and connect the cables to the original connector ?

Thanks!

Post by: mike. on 29 July 2010, 14:33
As far as I know the OEM cable, which would have been installed with the factory option bluetooth, doesn't have both channels connected to enable A2DP streaming from the phone.
Apart for that it should just be a swap out or the Ebay cable should be OK as long as it is wired for bluetooth Audio.

I dont have any factory installed kit so i guess that either i use the plug and play cable (if that works with everything) or i try and connect the kit directly to the RNS510? (and maybe need to dismantle the plug & play cable)

I just want to make it as good and clean as possible.
I allready have the factory mounted mic, so that should be covered.

If you have the factory mic for the RNS VC, then to save yourself having to run an additional cable up to the overhead light panel you would need to re-wiring the loom and not used the quadlock plug and play piece.

IMHO unless your really bothered by it I would install the plug and play loom and disconnect the mic from the factory loom and reconnect it to the PnP loom.

OK, thanks, how do i know which is the mic cable/pin ?
So the other option is to disconnect all cables from the BT unit to the plug´n´play loom and connected them to the factory one..
Sounds like the proper way if i have the time, but do i need to splice and redo the cables or just push them out of the pnp loom and in to the factory loom ?

Thanks!

So If I have understood all this correctly? I have got factory fitted bluetooth which works with umm.......? pretty much nothing! If i change the module under the seat for a 7P6 then it will work with the iphone etc, But I will only have sound out of the left speakers? so the wiring would just need a bit of attention?

Cool! I'm a bit unsure of what wiring needs doing as i think you were talking about to different ones, is all the wiring that needs to be done at the box under the seat?
Title: Re: Bluetooth in MY11 GTI Works with IPhone !
Post by: isse on 06 August 2010, 20:21
It connects the box under the seat and the RNS/RCD unit, so my guess is that it´s a bit of a pain to add an extra wire to the factory cableset, so instead install the new cable kit thats has them all.

Title: Re: Bluetooth in MY11 GTI Works with IPhone !
Post by: harvey183 on 06 August 2010, 20:24
Is the new cable kit contained under the seat or does it run back to the rns unit? I take it by installing this I will get sound out of all speakers?
Title: Re: Bluetooth in MY11 GTI Works with IPhone !

Needs to run from the RNS to the bluetooth module.

Sorry to be a pain guys! but just so I get this right I need to get the new module 7P6 and then the new wiring kit and run that from the rns unit to the new module under the seat and then hey presto? obv the wiring kit already installed at factory dosen't have enough or the right wires for the new module?

How did you guys route the cables ?
Im doing a fresh install and will be placing the BT kit under the passanger seat as orginal.
Im planing on routing the cables down from the center console alongside the center console behind the panel to the seat and then out under the seat.

However any tips are appreciated :-)

Hi guys,

I have just connected the 9W7 unit to my car and done a little testing.
First i connected the mic wrong and got a fault code for that, but that was solved and cleared.
I enabled Telephone on the CAN bus and then everything was fine, i allready had voice-control enabled since i had it as standard on my RNS510.

Now i have 2 issued left and i was hoping someone has some ideas.

1. When i use voice control (press the voice control button on the steering wheel)  i only get to the phone meny, and i can only do phone stuff with voice control. Before i got the the RNS main menu and could choose radio, navigation etc.

2. Everythign works with the 9w7, mic, mdf, a2dp, but in Vagcom there is one error code i cant get rid of on the phone module:

I asked this lot if they'd sell the parts minus the bluetooth module - they wanted £65!

Did your car originally have the OEM bluetooth?

If not then it may be looking for the overhead controls that are factory fitted with the bluetooth kit.

Hi Steve, no my car did not have a any OEM, so i dont have the overhead buttons etc.
Are there normaly cables from the BT kit to the overhad stuff?
Becouse i seem to have a few cables les then people who have factory mounted kits.

Do you also know how to use voice control for the Navi and radio when you have a Phone system installed ?
I only seem to be able to Voice control the phone, but before i installed it i could voice control everything..

Hi Sorry to rehash this old post but i've had a good read through it and just want to clarify a few things.

I have the premium bluetooth installed which I believe uses the RSAP protocol - This isn't so good for me as I have an iPhone and being a bit of an apple fan, changing my phone is not an option.

From reading this post it sounds like I need to do the following :

1. Buy the new module (7P6) which is compatible with iPhones
2. Doctor the wiring loom supplied with the new module to enable audio to left speakers.
3. Rewire the new loom from the bluetooth mudule under the seat to the RNS head unit in central console.

Does that sound about right?

If the above is correct - if I choose to just swap out the module, will I be able to make calls, use the mic, scroll the address and hear the person on the other end of the line (albeit just through the left side)?

Hi Guy's, been trying to dig around a bit for what i need to do here so that I can use my iPhone in car.

I've found this on ebay :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-UHV-Premium-Bluetooth-5N0035730D-RNS-510-iPhone-A2DP-/190521956157?pt=Freisprechanlagen&hash=item2c5bfe573d&clk_rvr_id=240331014777

Should I just be able to swap out the currently bluetooth module that is under my drivers seat and add the new one - no leads to change etc .....

Thanks in advance for the help.

I bought this unit earlier this year and installed in in my GTD. IT should be a literal swap out - no additional leads.

When you install it should offer you a pairing code - rather than it being '1234' like some bluetooth systems it will be something like '1111222233334444' a bit longer but that's normal!

Mine works very well with an occasional slow synch of the pre-programmed fast dials on my RNS510 but other than that it's spot on!

Thanks Buck - appreciate the help.  Looks like that will be my next purchase then.

Anyone want to buy an Rsap premium bluetooth module from me ? :-)
