Title: Panel Filter
Post by: boardlord on 01 July 2010, 19:42
Has anybody fitted a new panel filter,

There are offerings from Pipercross, K&N, ITG and VWracing (Which is twice the price of the others)

Not normally into to tuning so wanna sort this before the exhaust, not gonna chip as mate just had Focus RS die and now argueing between Superchips and Ford about whose gonna pay.

IMHO with the standard map there is no point adding any other hardware mods.

I have seen from dyno'ing my own car the standard map will make no benefit from the hardware mods.

Steve, what did you get on the rollers, I've heard the some cars running 230 in standerd trim. The graph on suprchips www shows 249 before there remap?

In stock my ran 206bhp at the wheels (VW quoted figure is flywheel), and changing the intake made 0 different on the stock map.

When running the Revo map and ITG filter it produced good gains over stock airbox and filter.

Even the ITG panel filter in the stock airbox saw good improvements.

The VW Racing one is a rebranded pipercross filter.  :lipsrsealed:

The ITG one is available from ITG directly or Merlin Motorsport

VW Racing = £89      Pipercross = £34    LOL

That's some mark up.

Cheap, if it keeps your warranty intact.
My dealer seems happy with anything 'VW Racing'.

The ITG costs £47, sort of average cost between VW Racing and Pipercross.
Southern Carburetters in Wimbledon supply and fit this.
What about K&N? Any views or knowledge of this?

Question: Does the ITG panel filter have a positive effect in a stock car? K&N claim their filter does.

Even cheaper if you just replace it with the OEM one when it goes to see the dealer

Can I change it myself quickly and doe it effect exhaust sound...what is the gain-factor...if you have stage I say 1-3 BHP ???

BTW
Stage I only says what sort of modification you have done....since I find the results (APR-JD-ABT-REVO) wildly varying or is this simply the way of measuring and they are all the same (parameter settings) in the end ???????????

SteveP is the expert.
But have a look at the ITG webpage:

If your car isn't remapped then there is zero performance benefit from having a freer flowing filter.

It will make very little difference to the sound but will add more than a few bhp from the dyno testing I saw on mine with the both the full ITG kit and the ITG panel.

Steve...I have a REMAP ABT stage I at the moment with a 260-270 BHP promise...
I really do not care for an actual Dyno result since it "feels" incredibly fast.
But if such a cheap filter is delivering more BHP-power I'll be the first in line.

Maybe I can get it somewhere in a German carshop next week....

Phoned JD Engineering (pro Remap co.) and they say it will deliver in Stage I around 2 BHP that is if you ONLY get the drop-in panel filter from ITG...measured on the dyno's
Not noticable they say......it gets noticable from Stage II
