i've always liked the rat style but not sure if i have the balls to do it to my own car  maybe when i start to get bored of it :P
so if you have one, get some pics up

Every time someone force rats a car, a baby panda dies.
Please, save the pandas

i hear ya.... i dont think the blue one was forced, think it looked poop anyway and has just been slammed, made the bay mint and fitted a shiney engine.. the other one looks foced.... i wouldnt mind so much if it was rough to start with and the rat look in no way makes the car deteriorate any further..... theres always hope..

I like the rat look

Daft idea, yes it might be scene but I am not keen

yeah, those two look ok to be fair.
That blue one has a whole lot more done to it, its had all of the suspension mountings and chassis pretty much remade and raised to get it that low, front end is all but space framed! Had a pvw feature about 8 months back, called ''hella f**kd'' or something along those lines.
Its the tripe they put on here: http://rat-look.com/
that does my head in. none of the cars on there are actual rat, theyre just ruined.

wasnt getting into detail on the blue one but you're right, i saw this car some time ago and couldnt decide if it was cool or not.. i did notice the frame work at the front and hoped the car was chosen as it was proper fooked like mine was or something. the other one is probably still totally straight and standard and has just done the rusty look. what i can't stand is when a perfectly good car is butured!!! there was a really over the top polo at inters on sunday... i took pics and posted on here, sadly the rear of it didnt come out... had bloody sieves screwed to each side of the bumper and some other random kitchen gear!

I liked the two-face scirocco with one half of it mint and the other half of it completely ratted. Very well done.
-
theres deffinatly a fine line between a mean looking rat and a car which just looks like a crap car with stuff stuck all over it
basically i got a Mk3 1.4 CL for £160 which is currently an MOT fail, i just need it to last me through uni then i can upgrade so ratting may be an option. although other than the interior its all in pretty good nic
few of my favs:

just leave it standard and a bit tatty. Then you'll just look like a motorist, not someone who tries too hard.
That matt black mk3 is particularly awful, with the e36 and rusty mk3 not far behind. Infact, its not even rat, its just what could have been a decent normal runabout painted really badly, having any resale value destroyed in the process.
and that e36 must have had a good 10 years left in it, instead theyve accelerated the rot in it to a point where, lets face it, it isnt coming back.
he e28 is moderately acceptable, mainly down to the motor (2JZE supra engine iirc?). But it looked so much better like this:

now that is nice!.... i remember seeing a similar beemer ratted and the car used to look as mint as the one you posted... i was in shock but then carried on reading the thread to realise that the car had been in a nasty smash so the owner decided ratting it was the next best thing to do after that (think it had been rolled)... he did a good job from what i remember and its one reason that would justify the change.... cant remebr where i saw it.
-
think this is it, started off as a good looking car bar the rusty bonnet and a rack, then there was damage to window pillar so decided to feck the whole car up! window area still damaged!????

I have one question about the rat look:
WHY?
-
The two face rocco and that ratted polo coupe at the bottom of page 1 one where done by the same guy. He's part of SWDubs.co.uk down here. He's missus car is awesome too.
His coupe is a little OTT lol, the bike can exhaust is cool.
-
I really really like that last ratty Beemer. Looks reallyhard as a pose to a drugdealers car? But I come from bikes and like rods too so that's where it stems from lol

Nah man. I just saw there was another ratty one after whch I didn't mean. I like the one with the shark teeth on the wing.
I'm on my phone so can't see - did it get ruined or made really nice?

Its just a bit of fun :)

^^^
that is not rat look though is it?
Its just a mk3 with a rusted bonnet and some crap on a roofrack. Doesnt make it 'rat'.

natural patina, nothing forced. Big power v8's, chopped and dropped.
not a 10 year old hatchback with a funking rusted bonnet and crap stuck all over it.
-
and thats an opinion backed with passion muthaf**ka!
i'd class dubway's mk3 as "rat look" thats what the vw rat look is about. its a vdub take on it and its perfect as people can have a car that stands out, makes it there own and isnt cheap.
the way it looks like its going (and has been for a while tbh) is ratted car and wheels worth more than double what the car is worth. talking a rusted-to-f**k mk3 golf on mint split schmidts.
vdub rat cars will never be better than a mint vdub though.
-
i know what a proper rat is, but a rat style dub is never really going to have a v8 in it!.... to be honest i dont care... the only thing i do agree with is a rusty bonnet certainly is not rat, especially if the rest of the car looks completly normal.
-

This x 1000.
While I might not like ratted stuff (and the Polo/half-rat Scirocco guy is a good friend of mine) I can definitely respect the effort he and others who do it well go to to get the cars looking like that and still be functional. What I don't get is this trend:

I see what your saying and i agree that its not the same but i didnt really think the line was so fine to not consider a rusty mk3 dented on every panel with sh!t hanging off with a rack and rusty bonnet was at all ratty? Yeh it cirtainly isnt a splitty with faded paint and rust patches as low to the ground as a nats pube but it still makes a hillbilly impression and isnt something boring you see everyday.

what he said^^

fair do's mate, yours is a hybrid rat then!

rat = rotten sh!tter you can't be arsed, or afford, to restore - if you're thinking of oxidizing the whole car be prepared to be driving it to the scrap yard within 2 years; even if you laquer it. a friend of mine did this to his karmann ghia and lived to regret it :embarassed:
hood = nicely patina'd original paint with polished rims and a dressed hot engine  - you really want something from a hot/dry climate to get the real deal though. this country doesn't have the climate for the paint work to go before the metal.
just my opinion, and it would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing. your ride, your choice
