Title: Well here it is
Post by: squirrelGTi on 25 June 2010, 16:07
6 months later!..........

I've not had much of a chance to go for a good run. 40 miles on the clock now. It got delivered with 9 miles, seems a bit high?

It's producing a very reasonable 34 mpg on country roads. (being gentle to run her in)

nothing quite like the feeling of going to collect a GTI
having waited an eternity for it
then parting with your hard earned notes...

but in the end i think it's worth it!
seeing the shiny wheels - then you drive it home to make it 'dirty'
i hope you enjoy it
it looks really good in the photos - thanks for sharing

Lovely, best colour  Wouldn't it have been cheaper/simpler to order the LEDs as an option?

I'll keep an eye out for you on the Sussex roads.  There arent very many about these parts, so drive it with your head high!

Hope you had a good time.

I do prefer the overall look of the GTi and its more practical boot. But most important it's superior fuel consumption makes it my preferred choice for a performance petrol car.

Some how i notched up 44.2 MPG today getting into work (A roads). I'm taking it easy during the early phase of running in (70 miles done), but this is incredible!!!!

I take it, it'll only get better as the engine loosens up?

Who needs the GTD hey............... (heads for cover!)

Great car I have got the same (only 4-door)...

Treat yourself with the led-rears.....that makes it even further standing out from the mass....and remap the devil....you really end up with a affordable sportscar

Even today I shattered the dream of a "Red Pimped Loud and Big Exhaust Mazda Something" next to me at the lights....come on the driver really must like to be humiliated....

Now I come to think of it maybe I start a topic...ALL The Cars We Beat Today With Our (remapped or standard) GTI ......okay and R..

Thats very good economy however try getting 62mpg on a A road 70 mile trip : )

I could get 44mpg red lining it in every gear.

Lovely car though mate Carbon grey is the dogs ...............

I drove it about 30miles, what a chore that was. Felt like I was towing another car.. until I drove the VW Fox courtesy car!! How slow and poor is that car!!

I kid you not I was driving a (new) loan car VW Golf 1.4 without any gadgets etc etc for a day....I really and honestly thought the car was wrong/broken down/full of faults..

.......steering was something like... I will end up approx there........braking was like taking a gamble....hitting the gas is waiting for something, that actually will never happen.....it makes you realise what a beauty of engineering the GTI is...

That car is a laughing stock of VW, its every salesmans nightmare to be given the fox demo to take home. It is a really cheap new car though, brandnew we are doing them with metallic paint for £6500! It does what people want it to do get them there dry but late and in as little style as possible.

Worse thing was no air con... I dont use it in mine but the heat thaat engine develops had me cooking in there!!

A fox with aircon is a rare luxury motor, you have more chance of getting a tug off the pope with elvis holding your coat than finding one with a/c as its pretty much a £1000 option.

I helped my pretty neighbour park her brand new Tdi.
I thought the steering was disconnected from the wheels, the clutch had seen better days - worn like an old whore, etc etc. It was awful. I did not tell her what I felt, being a gentleman and all that. I think my expression said it all. Then she wanted to try mine. I very politely declined and suggested it was too powerful for her.
Now I wonder what the re-map will be like .... hmmmm

Didn't hear the standard one but Mr.P took the remapped one down the strip and tbh i couldn't hear it ?  think it could be electric

Surprising how you get use to the power

Does it feel smoother now Gilly after the service
Title: Re: Well here it is
Post by: R32UK on 29 June 2010, 07:29
Yes pal... much smoother. I think it really needed that service. Had the oil run out on me not so long ago on a long trip down south, so I am quite sure that service was well over due despite what the mfd tells you.

As for taking the map off.... the most suprising thing is the throttle response.

I say dont bother with the re-map, fast enough IMO save your warrenty!!

At present I agree. It is fast enough for me and as I drive 99% of the time in Central London, a re-map would be an expensive waste especially wrt to warranty issues
So for now, for me, there is enough lead in Wolfgang's pencil!
