Title: bird sh1t has burnt my bonnet!
Post by: matchboy on 25 June 2010, 10:30
help!  bird sh@t on my car at some point in the evening yesterday (the splatter is as big as my hand).  had it cleaned first thing this morning.  the f7cking bird sh1t has burnt through my paintwork!  and i had it supagarded.  phoned them they said use 'wipeaway' (don't know if i have that) but that its not covered by their guarantee (to be fair she was ok about it).

anyone had this before?  any solutions?  is this vw's fault for a sh1te application of the product?  just shows the supagard is not worth the money (£free!) as it hasn't f7cking worked.  my bonnet is ruined - not happy.

help!!

Supergaurd is a waist of money not worth 2 bob!! I would contact guy in the detailing section ask for some advice getting it out?? Me I use warm water when getting bird crap off my car. But you need a good selent on there like Chemical Guys 109 with a decent wax on top for future protection!!

You might find that it hasn't burnt through the top coat after all. The mark might be what's left of the crap (it's usually urine, BTW). Bathe the area in milk (seriously ) and then wash gently several times as usual (warm water + car shampoo). If this still doesn't do the trick, try a light polish & wax. You've got nothing to lose, after all. Hope this helps.

I keep some Autoglym wipes in the glovebox for bird poo emergencies! Got mine from Halfords.

mate, if you were up Glasgow I'd have machined that out for you.

If Froggies ideas dont help, try a heavier cut polish and a good bit of elbow grease.

I have this also on the side of my car,you won`t get rid of it without professional help,i have at least six coats of dodo juice purple haze pro on mine which is suppose to wax and protect. It will be pigeon sh1t which damages the clear coat which stands out more on dark cars.I asked a question on the detailing section but no one could help i now just get it off quick.

wax is not the protection you think, and wax cannot be layered so you may have applied 6 coats, but as you cant layer wax that was 5 coats too much, yeah apply it twice for coverage but more than 2 and nothing is happening.

Bird sh!t is like frickin acid and the wax will not stand up to it, wax after all is a sacrificial layer, be aware the ba5tards eat sand to help them digest so that comes out through their sh!t, so be extra careful when wiping off as it can easily swirl/scratch your car.

I had a car with sh!t on it, and it took a machine for me to get it out. It was hard too.

Well I got peppered plastered with large dollops of this natural discharge some time ago. The poo mounds baked beautifully in the sun and were as hard as rock when I got to the car. As I was opening the door, a low flying bird discharged it's load onto my trousers exactily where my family jewels are! The shock of the strike was profound on my psyche and on my trousers! Talk about being shat upon from a great height.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I sprayed the poo mounds with some PH balanced Dove 2 in 1 shampoo (conditioner does help) and water. It's all that I had available in this emergency. Half an hour later, the poo slid off beautifully with not a mark on the paint.
Obviously, the Toughseal helped with protection!

Bird attack is a nightmare in this hot weather. I usually soak it with water immediately and wipe it off gently with some SRP follow by Zymol quickdetailer.
Wonder any of you guys/gals notice, birds do seems to pick darker colours to dump their waste. My previous cars are mainly silver and I never have any problem. Since I drive my carbon-grey GTI to work, they always leave me something to do after. Evn when I park my car elsewhere they still follow it and do their business on my roof and bonnet!!!!

Try living where I am in Seagullsh!t City Brighton.  Theres about 50 of the Fockas on every rooftop.  I got dive bombed the other day because there was a young one that had fallen out of its perch, and its mother wasnt too pleased with me in its proximity!

Bird sh#t can be blo#dy lethal this time of year.

If you leave it for long in the baking hot sun, it can soon etch into your clearcoat and need a machine polish or even a wetsand+machine polish to remove it

I think the little bugg#rs also go for blue cars too (something to with thinking blue is water ?).

My tips are :-

1. Always carry a couple of MF cloths and some detailing spray (or shampoo mix) in your boot.
2.  Inspect your car when you return to it for the dreaded sh#t
3.  Get it off your paintwork straight away -soak the poo for a few minutes with the lots of spray and then wipe off
