For all of us that have our GTI's and paid an average of £25k for them, in Jan 2011 our cars will be worth over £600 more. and Unlucky to those buying in 2011 who will now have to pay much the same extra.
-
Good news for us who bought our GTI in 2009! There will be even less MK6 GTI on the road! Hard to believe my little hothatch will cost £30000+ in 2011!
Need stockup some detailing products and get the remap, LED lights and any wheels or stonechip repair before the year end!

Glass's guide the trade bible for car prices.
I have been offered far more than i paid for mine, in a part ex
-
Spill the beans snoops!
-
Ah no, I calculated this from the VAT increase to 20% starting Jan 2011
-
Ah, I see, at least some good could come out of this budget then.
-
Its all relative the 2.5% hike. GTi will increase by another £800 approx.
Even 2nd hand motors go up in value too.
But me personally dont see the point buying Brand new car. You loose 3k the minute you turn the key.
But new car smell is nice , but lasts about 1-2 month
2nd owner within 12 months old buys a good Bargain usually.

Unless you can get 15% off that brand new GTD, then it becomes worth more when you drive it off the forecourt, than you paid.

I generally agree with what saint steve has said although I have new cars just because I can, but isn't kev saying that new cars bought last year are worth more now than when they were new? As snoopy says, he's already had an offer for more than he paid, although he is keeping :lipsrsealed:

They are, and this 'plucked out of thin air £3k' amount, is offset from when I bought the car, its been through 1 VAT increase already, the customary VW rise in price and now another VAT increase in Jan, not to mention the amount actually paid for the car after dealer discounts.
When I drive it off the forecourt it looses £3k ? When I sit my arse in it tomorrow going to work, my car will be worth more now than when I bought it. Fact.
-
The fact that there aren't a lot of GTI's about with also a long waiting list will certainly help keep the price up.
Here is a quote from the Glass's guide.
Volkswagen Golf GTI
2.0 Petrol 3-door Hatchback
6 Speed Manual Front Wheel Drive
Year: 2009 59
Mileage: 12,000
Estimated value of your car
Part-exchange Price:
Excellent condition:£21500
Average condition:£19200
Below average condition:£16900
-
I would happily pay under £17k for a 59 plate GTI. I doubt I would get one for that price though.
-

In below average condition? Could cost you over a grand to put right though if it's too scabby.
-
The demand has to drop at some point and I think this will push it too far.

how bad could a 59 plate be???
Its no secret a like to rag the ar$e off my car, and do very little in the way on maintenance. However there is nothing a service and a little spit and polish wont fix

Part-exchange Price:

Below average condition:£16900
So there is £2300 difference between an average car and an excellent condition car what a load of bollocks. hahaha
-
You'd be hard pushed to get a decent condition mk5 for £17k

Must be a first!

Kev, If you went to your dealer tommorow, they will offer you trade value, ie what you will get in return for your money, not their forecourt retail price.
You will loose nearly 3k. (Trade value is what im talking about!), not what you may try and get via a private purchaser.Which that is in the hands of what they are "prepared" to give you and not its true worth.
-
........ When I sit my arse in it tomorrow going to work, my car will be worth more now than when I bought it. Fact.
It's only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it. Given today's climate I don't think there will be many people looking to spend £25k on a used hot hatch.
-
You took the words straight out of my mouth, you will simply lose what someone is prepared to pay for it in the trade and what you paid for it initially. Of course they are not going to buy it and not look to make any money at all. Difference between trade and retail is certainly near £2000 at a VW dealer due to the money we have to spend on cars getting prepped.
-
tis true. My brother has had his a4 sline up for sale for a while now. Priced at about £1500 under an identical car at the dealers... not much interest tbh, and those that have are offering silly money. :undecided:
-
When kev buys his next gti , he's going to spec manual windows so that he feels more involved

man A offers £1000, man B offers £1100
Whats it worth if man B gets a cuff round the ear from his misses so has to pull out ?

So...
man A offers £1000, man B offers £1100
Whats it worth if man B gets a cuff round the ear from his misses so has to pull out ? £1000 or £1100 ?
-
What 'you' think it is worth and what its actually worth are two different things.
Its nice to think tomorrow your car might be worth more than when you bought it but in reality I very much doubt it. It can happen on some very rare cars but as much as I like the Golf I dont think thats one of them. Definatley not in the current climate.

So because Man B has offered £1100 you'd refuse Man A unless he offered £1100? Even seeing as Man B is now out of the deal, and your best offer is £1000?

Knowing ruffly what discount Kev got i don't think it would be 3k. Going by the glass's guide value posted above even if mine was that age and milage to match the quote i would not loose if it was that car but its not its newer with far less miles.

Man A offered me £1000, man B pulled out but offered £1100. Whats the car worth ?
Because not one person answered, but was quick enough to answer with the most ridiculous thing I've heard (its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it) I'll answer it myself..... its worth £1100.
-
Going by this, if you payed less the £22500 for your car new, then its worth roughly £19435 as trade.
http://www.whatcar.com/valuations/result?makeId=25321&modelId=25609&editionId=25636&yearId=42&mileage=10000
but if you car is older then my 59 plate estimate. i apoligise now. As an example of rough mileage a year old car may or maynot have.
But doesnt matter what anybody thinks, Myself, a forum user thats a dealer that does it for a living, and a few others are ultimately wrong of course.
But i have digressed, this is a topic about New car prices and not 2nd handers as the O.P stated in his heading.
-
The car is worth feck all until you have the money in your pocket. So if man A is willing to pay £1k then thats what its worth.

I think that reply was prob aimed at kev but oddly using that whatcar site if mine was a 59 and not a 10 as they don't list 10's yet its still worth more trade than i paid for it. Its actually the reason i did not buy secondhand due to the new/used prices. I don't care anyway as i expect to keep it a long time i was tempted by another model but i think i will stick. as its OT I will shut the f### up now :lipsrsealed:

The point being... anyone can offer you anything. I could offer to give you £30k for yours steve.... but until you have the monies its only worth what the next person is willing to pay.

I answered you, and your answer of £1100 is incorrect. it's not worth £1100 if you only get £1000 when you sell it.
Or do you fail to see the simplicity in that answer? I should think not, as simplicity seems to be your strong point.

For everyone else that can read....
Read what was said..."'its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it" now read that about 10 times as a few of you will require to do this till it sinks in.
Man B was willing to pay £1100. The clue is in the word 'willing'
There's your answer. Going by that f**kin stupid saying, the car is worth what man B was willing to pay.

I dont think its a stupid saying at all, it is a reality. Anyway, man B wasnt ultimately willing to pay £1100 was he.
The use of the word 'willing' refers to his offer, when actually the offer is withdrawn so it isn't really an offer because he wasnt 'willing' to go through with it. Say I offer you £50K for your GTI but have to pull out for whatever reason, doesnt mean its worth £50K does it? I'm not ultimately 'willing' to pay £50K.
Personally, I'd say a car is only worth what the 'open-market' is willing to pay.
Anyway, so our cars have held their money really well, maybe even worth alittle more, so what? Big deal. If you are that bothered you might as well as brought an old sh!tter.
BTW, have you factored inflation into your 'fag packet' calculation? A rough average over the last year has been 3%, that's about £750.  :undecided: :embarassed:

you seem to be missing the point, oh well, whats new hey!
good night Kev, you the man..
-
If man A is willing to pay £1000 and man B is willing to pay £1100 then that is a difference of £100...
Is that really worth getting so wound up about it.
A possible answer is that to man A the car may only be worth £1000 whereas man B considers the car to be more valuable (maybe he really likes the colour etc).
-
When the world is against you, turn to denial and swearing
-
Maybe I am missing the point here..
But if you continue down the route of man A + man B, then your car will sell for £1000! So what's it worth???
£1000...... BINGO!!!!
Its certainly not rocket science
maybe you should just agree to disagree with everyone Kev

My car's worth £50,000. I know it is, because a man from Nigeria said he was willing to pay it... ;-)

honestly f**k f**king f**k me.
Whats the Phrase... 'Your car is only worth what someone is willing to pay'
f**kin read that and f**kin keep reading it.
Regardless if you accept £1k, if man B is willing to pay £1100 then thats what its worth, cause that what he was willing to pay. Or we now changing that whole phrase to 'Your car is only worth what you accept for it' ?

Just phoned up Audi..... Told em I wanted to buy an R8. They said sure come down and see us. Told em I'm only willing to pay £5000, and said its only worth what I'm willing to pay. How come they hung up on me ?

Just because you're only willing to pay £5000 or a tenner for it doesn't mean that someone won't come along and pay the list price - Audi know this (they're actually pretty good at making a pretty profit from their motor cars).
So, in your case, let's call VWKev Man A.. who is willing to pay £10, but then Man B comes along and offers £175,000 - and his missus gives him the nod, so he buys it.
Audi know that they'll get a better offer so they chinned you off and waited for Mr B, who now has a nice R8.
Mkay pumpkin?

You comfirmed in your last post my point anyway. Regardless of what someone is willing to pay, there is someone else that will come along and pay the asking price. So a car is confirmed not to be only worth what someone is willing to pay.
-
Kev, id give up if i were you mate as i dont think they will ever get it. I've been laughing all morning!

Not exactly, because if Man B didn't come along eventually Audi would have to drop their list price until they found someone willing to pay it.

Instead I'm f**kin plagued with these idiots and whats more, I got GTD is faster than GTI nobs at every turn too.

I think you are both looking at it through one sided specs...
A ferrari is worth 75K for arguments sake. During the credit crunch the owner sells it for 50k cause no one could afford it.
Is it worth 75k still or 50k?
It is true that it is still 75k of car but the fact that people will only pay 50k for it reduces it's value to 50k.
At the end of the day it is no good saying your car is worth 75k is everyone else will only pay 50k for it. If you can get someone who thinks it is worth stumping up 75k for it then good deal. If not though you will have to accept that to most folk it is only worth 50k and sell accordingly.
In a way you are both right. KEV is right in suggesting that the car can be worth the higher amount BUT ONLY IF SOMEONE ACTUALLY PURCHASES IT!
The rest are right in suggesting that the lower price is correct as this is what will actually be paid.
Whether you agree or not the car is only worth what you can get for it.
Now let's try and be a bit more civil to each other in here. It's a bit tiring just reading folk hurling insults at each other!

The car is worth £1050.
The oracle has spoken.
Kev you owe me £50 as I am man C.

I dont care anymore, my 3DTV is being delivered later tonight

Will that be worth more in January too?
-
Will that be worth more in January too?

Of course it will.
The car is still only worth £1k which ever way you look at it.. simply because thats what you got for it.
Quite simply this topic has drifted from the point of what a car will sell for (i.e. it's worth)... to the point of taking a saying literally, as Kev has done.. then try and use it as an excuse for talking bollox!

I tried a Samsung and a Panasonic at home. I could not contend wearing those 3D glasses. So as I watched them in 2D, I sent them back. I thought plasma was a bit more realistic than LED.
Anyway, waste of money as there will be some really interesting takes from Philips later on. :nerd:

tbh I am not much of a TV boy. I only use mine for PS3 and watching football... Like I said, renting is ideal for depreciating assets
If you dont get it you wont get it.

Well, Panasonic bought the rights to the Kuro technology, so that is not exactly true as Kuro is in this generation of Panasonic plasmas.

Have you sold or are you still selling your car?
And if sold, what is the replacement, please?
Happy now?
PS: I forgot to

It is still up for sale. If the sale goes ahead then it will be replaced with... drum roll please... OI quiet you in the back! No sniggering about a GTD... drum roll continues... an r56 Mini Cooper S.
Most folk will consider the GTI to be a better car but I prefer the size of the Mini.
If the Golf doesn't sell however then I won't be too bothered in truth. It is a fantastic car.

I shall miss you too.
In case you are wondering about getting your roof done... I removed the vinyl from my bonnet. No marks, fade or anything else problematic. In fact it protected the bonnet from stone chips so despite my high mileage my bonnet paintwork is in the same condition as it was when it left the showroom
So in short then I can safely recommend getting your roof done (although the stone chip thing won't be so important)
-
I didn't know what a R56 Mini Cooper S looked like so looked in Google.
First hit:

See that's the problem. It's got so much grip it can drive upside down. But then women park it upside down and when they get out.... WHAM!
Shame... nice colour aswell.

Why do you say it was a woman driving that car? I am a better driver than most of the men I know
Can't fathom why you'd want one of those over a GTI you must be crackers.

Dear Gizzy, I do not mean offence to the female species. And maybe I can redeem myself somewhat by explaining that the women must be driving enthusiastically in the first place to get the Mini upside down and thus defying the laws of gravity. I merely chose women as my victim/culprit due to the fact that most Mini's nowadays are driven by women leading to an opinion that Mini's are girls cars. Which makes me sad  Please do not judge me too harshly.
You've really upset my feminine side.

Whilst the Golf is indeed a fantastic car I feel it is too big. Perhaps Snoopy can best understand as he has the original GTI to compare. The Mini drives where you want it to and feels like it is doing so purely because of less weight and mechanical design.
The GTI drives where you want it to but feels like it is doing it more because of the technology in the car.
I'd say the mk6 GTI feels more like a GT than a GTI. It covers distance like nothing else. The GTI literally ate Europe without thought. But in doing so kind of shot itself in the foot. See where I think the GTI is best is doing everything...
...good looking (modest with a hint of sport)...
...quiet...
...efficient...
...economical...
...fast...
...comfortable...
...dynamic...
but the GTD does all these also. Having owned the petrol GTI for almost a year now and having done 25k miles in it I would honestly say that I would take the diesel next time. (am1w I know you are thinking the same - or were). The GTI just doesn't feel anymore like the nippy point and squirt hatch that the mk1 was.
And unfortunately... it's the point and squirt that I really wanted from my GTI.
(Of course those who have come from larger cars will find the GTI plenty nippy and light footed. For me the GTI is a bigger car than my last so I find it larger and more cumbersome. Therefore my opinion may not resonate with you)
Apologies Kev for kinda highjacking your'e thread.
Man V.W.K suddenly appears and Kills Man P.G.T.I. ruthlessly and efficiently and Man A.M.1.W. readies the polar bears

Your apology was most eloquent and extremely well meant so I can do nothing else but to forgive you.
You are entirely correct most minis are driven by the female of the species but not all as a gent around the corner from me has a very nice black Cooper S, but in its entirety it just does not appeal to me like the GTI.
I just love getting behind the wheel and for me even without a remap it is a powerful enough beast always putting a huge smile on my face.
Anyway all the best with your next purchase and keep in touch with this forum we'd love to hear how you enjoy your mini.
