I was the other way, I really disliked the big central backbox being visible. On this you can't see the two smaller in-line silencers unless you get under the car. So when following or stood behind the car (even at a distance) it looks great

Also with the Blueflame the Y connector and clamp was visible from behind which I didn't like either, so with the Milltek the way it's connected makes it look better too IMHO.

Will be very interest to see the APR system on yours and get your thoughts

Looks good steve! I know what you mean about the U- Bolt showing with the Blue Flame, better idea with Milltek having it flanged.

Whats happening with the stage2 Revo?
Title: Re: Latest mod, new 3" Milltek Turbo Back Exhaust
Post by: SteveP on 22 June 2010, 09:01
There is still some work to do on the Stage 2 software, mine (which is an early Mk6) has issues with boost control, but some of the more recent ECU's don't from what Revo tell me.

As soon as there are any updates I will post the details

I can't wait, because tbh it was a tad boomy at about 2krpm and had a higher note at that rpm then the standard. This was my first drive with it. At 4k and up it already sounds great!

I know the exhaust note will change so your comment makes me more sure of it. Thanks. :)

Mine was a bit boomy at 80mph but that went away after a couple of thousand mile, i have done 15k on mine now and it sounds great, have you got 100 cell cat ?

did you go for race resonated or as per steve P with the bullet silencers ?

I got this exact set http://www.millteksport.com/media.file.cfm?fileid=780 (http://www.millteksport.com/media.file.cfm?fileid=780)
I'm guessing this is the race resonated one?

I haven't got the 100 cell cat yet due to not having the opportunity to get stage 2. I''ll have to take a trip to get that done. I'll probably go for the cat and stage 2 next summer.

Thanks, I'm loving the new look. The quality of the Millteks seems very nice as well.

Anyway I'll have to rephrase what I said previously. I took a 30 min drive recently to test. The boomy sound comes between 3-4krpm. Not so much at 2k. At 4k upwards it sounds awesome. I am a bit worried though since the boomy sound seems quite much. Could it be that the original cat and milltek cat back doesn't work as good together as the full system? I've sent a mail to Milltek. Maybe they have an answer. :)

So can the 3" system fit the factory 2.5 " cat? Does it come with a reducer?

Did fitting this cause any problem with fuel map?
Title: Re: Latest mod, new 3" Milltek Turbo Back Exhaust
Post by: Spin 150pd on 12 November 2011, 17:35
Yes it fits using a reducer and has no affect on mapping and very little affect on performance but does look gorgeous. The downpipe on the other hand makes a huge difference!

It's a shame you can't buy trims that look like those tailpipes.

Your silver GTI looks amazing in those pictures Awry. Whenever I took pics of my silver one it just looked bland. I'm not good with photos. Your photos are brilliant and bring the silver to life.

Thanks. :) Silver is very dependent on lighting. It changes quite a bit depending on the weather and as you've noticed it's quite difficult to capture the reflex silver. The nicest pictures I've taken are during the sunset when the sun is low on the horizon. Set the camera so it captures the reflected sunlight. It looks stunning. :D

Well it took some time before I got an answer from Milltek but they have come up with a solution for me. They are going to use the system from the Scirocco R. Everything is the same except for the rear silencer which they are going to exchange free of charge.

Here's a picture of the new rear silencer I'm putting on. The one marked with blue text.

Actually they are surprisingly comfortable for daily use. The ride don't feel harder at all to me and you can easily tell that the car rolls less in corners. The only downside is that the car will be about 30mm lower and thus more unpractical in some situations. I have DCC and the Comfort mode has a funny feel to it. The original springs also had this bouncy feel to it when in comfort mode but I think it's a tad more noticeable with the H&R springs. I definitely prefer normal and sport mode on the DCC but use comfort when the road is bad and during winter with ice and snow.

All in all I'm very happy with the H&R though as they provide a good balance between everyday use and sporty driving. They definitely improve cornering which is great especially here in Norway where the road is made entirely out of corners... Car looks better to me as well. Just enough so it looks cool and not stupid low. :) The H&R partnumber is 28988-1.

Nice, thanks. I'm just getting rid of my A3 which was on Weitec coilovers so I'm used to it being quite firm. I had it really low at one point but it was difficult to have any passengers lol. I want to lower the GTI when I get it (I've tried resisting - but it's too high) and wanted to avoid coilovers this time and save money if possible. So these springs sound like a good option. I take it you kept the standard shocks too? Cheers, Scott

Yes. I wanted to keep the DCC-system. The Koni-coils for DCC is really expensive. I'd rather save that money for my next car.

Well I got my new Milltek fitted again today. I wasn't happy with the first one I got. I'm sure there had to be something wrong with mine. Anyway I got the opportunity to try out a new rear exhaust. Everything is the same except for the rear part. I also got a new rear bumper installed as someone managed to hit my car in the rear as I was standing still on a red light. Luckily only a small crack but now my car is "whole" again. :)

I'm very happy with the result it's very nicely built. The fit is perfect and it is also very compact so you don't have a big ugly box visible from the rear. The sound is very refined. There's just a refined deep growl from the bottom and the top has a nice sporty grunt. It sound very linear. The previous one I had sounded like a roller coaster ride. Suddenly the sound would increase up and down through the rev range. This new one I got sounded perfect. Very linear which what I was looking for. It's quiet for everyday use but still there's a hint of deep growl. When you go further up the rev it just gets better. Overall it's perfect for me as I still want a comfortable and quiet ride for everyday use but still have a sporty sound when I floor it occasionally. Very satisfied. :)

I'm getting one of these on mine in the summer when I've recovered from the recent bill on the Mk2.

However, I can't decide whether to go for res or non res. I don't want it to be quieter than the OEM one but then again I don't want it to sound like the lad next door's 1.0 Corsa with a drainpipe on the back i.e. ultra loud and stupid. A bit more grunt than standard is fine.

From odds and sods I've read on here before I'm erring towards a non res but what do you all reckon you lot who have one?

I have just been driving mkviken gti with milltex fitted and was very suprised how quiet it is.
I too want a similar to you his to me is ideal. Little louder than standard but only when needed.
That drive is going to be costly to my pocket!

sell one of them cars and get a nice shiny set of 18''s, a remap and exhaust on there!

cheers for your help again geoff. much appreciated.

by the way the brake assist is very slightly sharper with slightly less effort required but there isn't much difference between standard and 2 though to be honest.

I  eed to tone it down to be honest. The cleaning is getting a bit over the top now.

After my operation I will have a cast on for 8 weeks or so and won't be able to clean it! Don't know how I will cope!

For a daily car I found my full race system a little too much at motorway speeds, but think the res version would probably just right for the majority of people.

However I know Milltek are working on electronically controlled valves at present which can be RPM or manually switched so that might be a nice option going forward
