My DRLs have suddenly stopped working when the lighting selector is in 'Auto' mode. All the bulbs are fine as all the lights work in other modes. All the lights come on automatically in 'Auto' mode in darker lighting conditions, which is fine. What can it be?
Could it be because I have the MFD in 'daylight saving mode'? I have disabled this, but still the DRLs don't come on.
Any help will be most appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi
I'd be glad if my DRLs stopped working in the daytime, I am sick of peeps flashing at me cos it's bright sunshine and my bloody lights are on.

Am just replied to your PM mate.
Amanda I can turn them off for you if that would be better?

It would seem to happen to cars without Xenons with rear LEDs?

Now you are being a really very silly boy.

AM didn't you get xenons retro fitted, although I don't see it in your signature? Could that be the cause of it?

I did, but had them removed as I was not happy with the results. Try before buy.
Car is 100% standard in the front at least!
Golfgti5 is having the same problem.

In Auto mode and before Rear LEDs were fitted, did the DRLs go off when the main lights came on? I seem to remember this. Now both the DRLs and main lights come on in dim conditions. It's not a problem as I don't mind not having the DRLs on all the time.
Could it be that the VAGcom set-up is only for cars with Bi Xenons? Maybe there is an update for the latest GTis which have rear LEDs as standard + standard halogen lamps?
Very wierd.
-
I went into my dealer yesterday and pleaded with them to turn off my Xenon DRL's, but they arent allowed to. I even got a print out from the technician from a VW internal tech sheet about the DRL rules from VW.
So now I need to do it with a VAGcom. Trouble is, I cant justify spending £250+ on something that I'm going to use to make just 3 changes to my car (DRL's / Rain closure / Alarm chirp) - Anyone in the South with a VAGcom that wants to earn some beer tokens if I drive to them?
-
Maybe it's a blessing in disguise that mine are not on at all. Might help the mpg?
What's the alarm chirp?
All very wierd.
-
Its so the alarm beeps when you lock the car from the keyfob.
If you dont have Xenon's, cant you just turn the DRL's on or off using the trick with the indicator stalk?

No beeps when I lock the car, thank heavens.
The indicator stalk trick? I read about it but cannot remember what to do as I did not pay much attention. Do tell if it is not too much trouble.
-
With the light switch in the 0 (off) position, and the ignition off.
Put the indicator into the left turn (down) position.
Pull the stalk towards you as if you're flashing your headlights and hold it there (still with the stalk down/left.)
Turn the ignition to on (no need to start the engine.)
Wait for 3 seconds and you'll here a ding noise.
Release the headlights and centre the indicator switch.
Your DRL's should be off.
To switch them on again, do the same, but instead turn the indicator stalk up or right.
DOES NOT WORK ON XENON's

Changing that bit also has odd effects with xenons and rear LEDs. I find it funny people changing canbus bytes when they don't even know what they actually do and effect. I found those german websites last year about rear LEDs who said what code to change and everyone started preaching it. Then Ross-Tech reccomended at the time not to fiddle with that byte because it can cause issues, until they find out from VW exactly what it did, but people still went ahead, oh well. :lipsrsealed:

Thanks Spooner.
Tried it. No effect either way. Hear the 'ting' but DRLs resolutely off in Auto.
I'll give up for now.

I don't think so because al byte's and bite's are in the same setting as my friends GTi VI......

I'll get it checked on Saturday afternoon 26th June by Darren when he fits my RNS510 or by VW on the same day in the morning when they fit my Ed30 knob and sort the centre armrest clonk!
Everyone wants their DRLs off. We've got this without asking!

have a look at if the Factory Halogen DRL's in Byte 15 are turned on under - "Daytime Running Lights (via separate lights) active" is checked

Yep, it's checked on

Do you have the led rears retrofitted too?
If so try changing the byte back that was changed to stop the bulb out errors and see if the DRLs come back on. :undecided:

Hope he's gone to check and it works.

Froggy has retrofitted rear LEDs with Halogen fronts.
Erik, I think, has Halogen fronts and factory LEDs.
I wonder how their DRLs are performing.
Erik's might be fine as his rear LEDs are a factory fit.
Froggy has not mentioned a thing.
Be interesting to find out.
-
Erik/Froggy, with lights in Automode, do your Halogen DRLs work as normal as you both have rear LEDs?
