Just had a very frustrating conversation with my insurer today.
I'm currently paying 75.00 a month for next 6 months on an accelerated bonus scheme. I have 3yrs N/c now. I just let the policy renew without shopping around. I know, but I was in the middle of some fairly intense stuff so didn't think too much of it. My insurance has gone up from 514 to 750 despite having another years n/c?! Advisor said that this was just "rate increases", which she kept repeating until I got bored.
Have checked around and and with mods declared I can get Bell+Admiral to do me F/c £330 for the year.
Was with them previously but there call centre was a joke.
I'm 28, 3yrs NCB driving for 10yrs, no accidents or claims in last 5yrs mk2 16v with exhaust/ coils/ alloys not too much else.
Question is should I hold off for 6 months and get my 4th yr n/c discount or pay 61.00 (ish) to cancel my policy and take out a new one? :undecided:
Could I get a better deal through the site sponsor?
Also anyone recommend a decent alarm for the mk2, my clifford one is on it's last legs after being installed in '92

You need to work out what is most cost effective. Let's do this now as I have a calcumalator here at work.
6 months at 75 equals 450 total
new policy of 330 plus 61 to cancel equals 391 total
450 - 391 equals 59 saving.
So looks like you would be better off cancelling and taking a new one out.

Aye, cheers for that. It was more with the loss of 4months no claims, but it's not the end of the world. It'll teach me to always check my renewal in future

You tried Greenlight? They came up trumps for me on the Golf.

Aaye but it's not a loss as you're saving money. I know what you mean though does suck

That I did, emailed last night. I will see if I've got a reply when I get in from work.

Car insurance is such a scam, don't tell me if it wasn't a legal requirement it'd be so exspensive.
Having sidthat I'd be gutted to be paying 3500 on mk3 1.6

Try heritage, cheap for me £140 fully comp, it is a limited mileage policy of 1500 per year, 3000 miles was £163 give em a try for nothing;)
mk2 16v the same.

Horrendous isn't it. Mines still bad @ 130 a month for 1400 cl, but just need to power through I guess until I get some ncb's

Have you younger guys looked at buying a mk2 8v then insuring it via classic car insurance on a limited mileage policy, surely it's cheaper than these horrific numbers posted on here, when I was 18 and got my first 8v it cost me £700 ish, and that's when ever sod wanted to Nick em and zoom em everywhere they could before setting fire to them  15 years back or so

hertitage eh? cheers for the tip, i'll check it out. That'd be epic. Limited mileage doesn't bother me as I only seem to drive the car 2weeks in every month as it's been so unreliable. Should have bought an Alfa'

I tired green light and got 724 which was good considering everyone on confused wanted 1900 lowest for my Mk2 Gti 16v, then I tried sky insurance who got me a quote of 700 which wasnt bad at all being 22 4years NCB and 1 sp30 in 2007!
