i was just wondering if it possible to connect my ipod up to my cd player in my car.
Someone said the other day if it hasnt got 'mp3' above the cd slot then i have to get a newer edition.
is this right ?
-
Whatever you do,DO not get the VW IPOD connector fitted...absolute sh!te.......complete waste of £155.00....
-
ok, thanks. so it is possible to fit it ?
if it is, how does it work ? because there is only CD, FM and AM on the unit. doesnt it have to have AUX or something ?
-
No no mate I think your confused slightly!
I said if you want to play mp3's on your cd player you need the one with the mp3 logo above the slot, I assumed you ment an mp3 CD! Any of the cd players with the option of a cd changer can have a iPod interface connected.
Hope that's clearer mate?
-
yeah thats what i meant mate. on my previous post i actually put mp3 player. so how do i go about doing this and how does it work without its own button ?
-
I don't know how much works involved whether you can get away with just ordering a loom, but I've got a brand new iPod housing and connection that comes fitted in the golf match in the armrest if it's any use to you? It's over £230 to buy new. It's still boxed brand new
-
i dont have an arm rest mate. im after a bit of info on how to get one fitted tho.
if i did get one fitted, is it a case of either ipod connection or cd changer ?
and will your thing only work with arm rest ?

ah sorry I hadn't read the post right. As said earlier, vw do the cheaper iPod fitting kit that gets wired into the original cd player loom that goes to a small box that gets hidden behind the cd player then an iPod lead comes off that and into the glovebox usually. It's not the best of kits, I believe the one I mentioned is a bit better but can only be fitted inside an armrest as The connection comes fitted in a single DIN tray. As you also mentioned, a cd changer would be your only other option
-
buy yourself a lead with a 3.5mm jack and 2 rca connector's on then feed the lead through to to the glove box, ipod lead costs £20 max for a good quality 1, obviously this option depends on if you have rca connectors on the back of your car stereo

this is one of the things i wanted to know, whether you could use a jack, im not too fussed about being able to use the headunit to control the ipod. just want better sound then through the FM transmitter
-
yeh the jack fit's straight into the earphone plug on the ipod, only way you would know if you have rca plugs on the back of the stereo is removing the stereo and taking a look or if you have instructions for the stereo check that, i paid £19.99 for my lead from maplins and is the propper ipod lead
mick
-
if i go the 'jack' way, how does it work ? if i want the ipod on what does it take over because it doesnt have its own button does it,
when you say ipod lead from maplin its not the jack one that your on about aswell is it ?
-
my stereo has the aux option which plays the ipod through, the cable comes with a 3.5mm jack on 1 end (fits into ipod) and 2 rca plugs on the other end (fits into the back of the stereo) altho useing the option you cannot control the ipod through the stereo which is the only downfall but for £20 what more would we expect?

-
i have one of them but wasnt sure whether it would work because i dont have a designated 'aux' button on my unit
-
You hold the cd button down to access the aux feature I think
-
ok mate, ill have a look at that tomoz
cheers bud
