Title: gritty industrial location required - reading area
Post by: Guy on 08 June 2010, 22:54
word

have to do a fashion shoot which is 'rags to riches' for college and need to find a gritty style run down location in which to shoot a posh lass in a frock

any ideas for locations in the reading and local area welcome?

Portman Road Industrial estate would be cool, some railway arches near there aswell.

Craddock road/Boulton Road up by makro?

Hehe, that looks like a real harsh forum.

Can't say I know of any abandoned warehouses, there must be some up at Portman Road i'd have thought.

Happy hunting

oh yeah they can be harsh, the problem is most of the locations are generally private property and require you to trespass, now IIRC the police can't do anything regarding trespass if you haven't damaged anything (then it becomes criminal damage), so on that forum they get a lot of randoms asking, how do i gain access, well the access point is generally a damaged fence or broken window.

best best is to just search for your area on the forum and see what pops up

sounds like an interesting shoot, and gives you an insight into scouting locations, good luck!

which is kinda understandable...but they do take the hard line!

had a quick search and found this... which might do... http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=34904&highlight=berkshire (http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=34904&highlight=berkshire)

think as 'location manager' for our shoot it might be quite interesting... it isn't until later on this month so have plenty of time to find the right place

I use google streetview for scouting out locations for car shoots, it can save a lot of time driving about!

if so then mr jord is right... although there was only one drunk I can imagine that it is not too pleasant during the evening hours... we would need some type of security  :undecided:

wicked location though

the place with the stairs looks interesting, and allows you to shoot down or up

Not sure if it's the right location for rags to riches though, in my mind I'd be thinking Cinderella type, like an old kitchen, by an open fire near a coal shed etc.

i see where you are coming from on the cinders thing.. but we're free to interpret the theme how we want...

we're doing a posh lass on her way to an evening function... taken a wrong turn on her way taking a shortcut kinda thing... so... running scared looking over her shoulder etc... has to be high fashion as it is for a fashion magazine (well... the assignment is anyway)... its almost as though it is riches to rags... the posh lass contrasting against the concrete jungle

that makes more sense, esp with it being fashion and not fantasy / conceptual art

Should be able to have some fun at those locations, a subway could work well too, esp for the over the shoulder look, maybe have her pushing one of the trolleys too, but with some crazy expensive hand bag draped over the front (might be too surreal).
