Just got my renewal for the insurance, its with aviva its £260 fully comp if i renew online,i have just done the go compare and the cheapest on there was £280.Seems to me the insurance has gone up on the golf gti anyone else had a quote lately ? or what are you lot paying ? :undecided:
-
I had a quote from them the other day and they wanted 700 quid must be joking!!
-
The number of claims in the cold winter has bumped up premiums. Mrs Horney's Fiesta insurance went from £110 to £280 even after days of shopping around.

It definitely pays to shop around. Then use a site like quidco.com (http://www.quidco.com/insurance-finance/insurance/motor/)
I've just got my Mrs insurance from Aviva and have £70 cashback from quidco just for linking through them.
I see they are down to £45 though
-
I have a touran also, last year the golf was cheaper than the touran, the touran is £230 fully comp this year which is only £10 more than last year.I think like nick said insurance has gone up across the board this year but seems the Golf gti mk6 is going up at a faster rate than most. :undecided:
-
Just count yourself lucky your paying £260 for a MK6 GTI ! Thats just ridicules !
I think you would pass out if I told you how much my MK5 GTI cost.
-
£480 fully comp from Aviva
-
I'm based in Shoreditch, London. Costs me just on £1k. Using the comparison engines, I figured out that having not been born in the UK accounts for a £200 premium yet my license is UK issued, no points, never claimed on insurance.
I'm a member of the advanced institute of motorists and incredibly it has no impact on my premium either. You gotta love actuaries.
-
My cheapest quote doubled from the time i originally was suppose to get the car (End nov/start december 09 till march 28th when i got it. Just about every quote using the compare sites more or less doubled  I was abit shocked.
-
£650 for a GTD with 4 people on the insurance. DOH! does range from 27-63 year olds and I am 31 with 14 years no claims.
-
for my re-mapped mk5 gti i was quoted up to £1200 ended up paying £37 extra, total £270 with saga, yes im over 50
-
I am paying $480 AUD for a year on mine -that's about 300 quid i guess, but i am an oldie!!(34)
-
Mine's gonna be £410 from Admiral with the Mrs on it. I'm 28 and she's 25.
-
My Mk6 was £445 fully comp from Swiftcover, with 4 years NCB and my Mrs as a named driver. I'm 37, she's 42. I was with Directline for seven years prior, and they quoted £850!
"We're not on any price comparison websites, so we cut out the middleman and pass the savings on to you" - Erm, hello? I think you might need a middleman to bring yourselves back into a competitive position in the marketplace!
The other day I got quoted on a Mk1 Golf GTI Campaign (which I'm hoping to buy) - Third party cheapest was £800, fully comp, £560. How does that work out then??
-
Am also having some fun and games with Insurance quotes.
Everyone seems to say Aviva is very cheap, but they quoted me £1850 through a broker!
I am at present with Zurich (£500 with no excess and European cover, legal costs etc). But they want to charge me an extra £40 a year for rear LED's!
I've told them that I will soon be cancelling my Insurance with them as their extra charge for rear LEDs is unreasonable. I have yet to do so, but will in my own sweet time.
-
Living P*** takers insurance companys , admiral wanted £700 , no chance
-
Bloody hell, when I get my LEDs fitted will I need to tell my insurance company then? what does changing the lights matter to the already inflated price?
Gizzy
-
I personally wouldn't bother tbh.
Some people say you should tell them about EVERYTHING but the lights are VW OEM so in my eyes they can just f**k off. (LEDs are now standard on all GTIs)

Well I am not going to say anything about mine as the new VW Golf GTis have LED's and as mine is only 2+ months old, I will simply tell them that VW updated mine as a goodwill gesture!
Fcuk 'em.!
But you might have to, in fact, you should to be safe. See what they say and if they charge you, tell them you are leaving them as you have had a more competitive quote. That will put a cracker up their arse and they might relent. Make sure the donkey who takes your call understands that they are standard VW Golf REAR LEDs, 'rear' being the operative word.
I hate faffing around with insurance quotes. They just add an unreasonable addition to costs as I live in London. I think Steve30 has the same problems.
It's never easy is it?

It doesn't matter whether the extra was a goodwill gesture or not. It is still an extra at the end of the day. But why LED's should add as much to the premium baffles me.
When I originally tried for quotes before receiving my car some companies specifically asked me about the stereo and wheels, if these had been upgraded. Obviously I told them they had. However the company I settled for never asked me about these things until I received a letter from them stating the details I had given them didn't match the details on the insurance company database!!
Big Brother is definitely watching!! I don't know how it would go if you phoned your company to add extras and then went elsewhere.

Greenlight wanted £800 , this is getting beyond a joke now

Maybe, but not standard on the cars in question - so it's a mod, which insurance co's don't like.

Yeah, but anything thats OEM i wouldnt bother with, thats just me though. Would you tell them that you got cruise control retro fitted at the dealer . . . same thing.

Exactly.
Anyway, my dealer is really nice and will say that as both my rear lights stopped functioning due to a production fault, they replaced them with LED's instead.
PS: I'll even get a letter to prove it!
-
I really don't think you will need that, they are standard rear lights. Insurance company wont say anything.
If you had aftermarket lights on, well then that's another matter.

Maybe a luggage net must also be disclosed!
-
I once moved the position of my seat to a different angle that it came when I got it from the dealer, should I tell them that?
-
Insurance companies are all dickheads anyway, they've got us all over a barrel and put premiums up cos some little scrote is running around somewhere uninsured and causing us extra payments, it really hacks me off

Well, ma deah, the sky is the limit!
-
You have to tell the insurance company everything that is not standard fitment. That includes any optional factory extras. They can refuse to honor a claim or sue you for them if you claim and haven't declared them. It's in your small print, read it.

Does that mean everyone who has 18 Monzas needs to tell their insurance company as that's a factory option and not standard?
-
Well I'll have to inform them of following:
ACC, Monza Shadows, Winter/Luxury Packs, Cruise, Front/Rear Parking Sensors, Steel Door Sills, Gulfstream11's Right/Left Footrests & Seat Lever Inserts, Luggage Net, Toughsealed Exterior/Interior, 3 Yr Service Pack. Motul Specific Engine Oil, Boron Motor Silk Engine and Gearbox Additive, BG 44K Fuel System cleaner, Rear LEDs, Ed30 Manual Gear Knob, LED RNS510, VW Premium Bluetooth, Rear Diffuser in Hammerite Metallic Paint, Cherished Plate Transfer and not forgetting The Boil on my Bum
-

Correct.
-
When I got a quote recently, they were only interested in the wheels.
They didn't need or want to know of any other options [that included 510/Dynaudio] .. which I found a little odd. Still, I kept their email to this effect and if I do progress with them and there are probs, I can refer back to it.

Correct.
My insurance company asked me for the value of the car. As with most people this would include any optional extras and be what the list price was. Surely this would remove the need to read off a list of optional extras?

Hardly, how are they to know the dealer just didn't see you coming?

Non standard items must be declared, but directline were only interested in the 18" wheels and the RCD510.
I now stick with insurance companies that have uk call centres like directline even if they are more. I tried to phone one and had to spell my name 5 times to the non uk call centre operative lets call him Dork. Goes a bit like this:
Dork: Hello, how may I help you?
me: I would like a quote for car insurance please.
Dork: ok well then, i would like some details please.
me: ok
Dork: What ist your name?
me: Alastair
Dork: How do you spell that?
me: A L A S T A I R
Dork: Can you spell that again.
me: A L ....
Dork: Can you spell that again.
me: brr.... telephone receiver placed down.
