Anyone had their windscreen repaired instead of replaced?
Mine has 3 small chips in it , which I don't think will cause it to fail it's MOT due to their position, but they look unsightly.
The windcreen is original and is etched as all the light etc are so I'd like to keep it, but are the repairs any good or can you still clearly (haha) still see them?
I've also been told that if I have it repaired the insurance will stump up the full payment but if I have it replaced I've got ?50 excess to pay? :undecided:
-
all the repair does is stop the crack from spreading, you will still see the crack
-
Look round for a second hand one.
Mark knows how to change them
-
but do i say where the how to guide is......
-
I'm sure someone must have dont it before on here
-
one or two i could live with, but three is getting a little much.
there is that point at which a windscreen becomes a bit dangerous as it is being weakend quite significantly.
and i dont think a windscreen is that expensive either.
-
I would say change it. If your running a big audio system then its more likely to crack even more.
change it by the 50 quid excess an get it etched ?
-
piggy is it green tinted? a clear one will be easy to find down the breakers, green one a lot harder :undecided:
-
i found a green one down wokingham scarppy for 20 quid.
they are easy to replace aswell, sit in you car on the front seat, put your feet on the windscreen and push. hard. it will pop out having bent in two! put a blanket on your bonnet to prevent this getting damaged. pick up your windscreen ruber and put it round the new glass. then tuck a piece of rope in the flap on the windscreen seal offewr the windscreen up to the car and with someone pushing the outside pull the ends of the rope and it will unfold the seal into the car and pull the windscreen into the aperture. look in the haynes manual. its a piece of piss takes bout 15 mins.

Cheers guys, looks like a definite replacement is due.
Luckily, or unluckily, depending upon how you look at it, it's juct a normal one so I should be able to sort one out cheaply.

Just pay the excess on the new windscreen from your insurance .
Im allowed one a year without affecting anything .
As for etching i dont think that glass theft is really an issue any longer.
-
lol  its so you can see if the reg is right, its loads more hassle changing all the glass with the reg etched on than just the number plate

you could get a windscreen from a scrappy for 20 quid why spend an extra thirty for no reason? fair enough if they were bonded in but they arent.
