Title: dealers still sh1te then.....
Post by: gossa on 20 May 2010, 21:25
Pulled up outside VW Swindon on Tuesday in the gleaming tornado MK6. Had a good look around the R demo outside before going in. grey MK6 in the showroom, had a good look around it for nearly ten minutes, opening the boot, doors etc.

Not one of the 4 sales people who were all free batted an eye lid. Tw@ts.

Did they see you already had a Mk6 GTi? If they did, you have the answer.
Anyway, it does not excuse their laziness and total lack of interest. How would they know if you were or were not a GTi collector or second Golf buyer if they just sat on their sorry South Poles?

Had the same experience when i was looking for my GTI. (Especially the bromley branch in London) As they say Supply and demand. They know they don't have any issues shifting these great cars and must be hitting their sale quotas. Still dont justify the way they act. Arrogant f**ckers.

Got to say it depends on the dealer.

We bought the mk5 from Battersea VW which I found to be an unpleasant experience, and personally felt they couldn’t give a toss and was VERY badly messed about with the delivery dates being bounced more times than a 16 year old trying to get into an over 21's night club (even when started to look at cancelling the order as was so fed up with them they didn't care).

However on the upside.... Found that Warrington VW and also one in Birmingham who I can’t remember the name of I found to be excellent.. They always went out of there way at both dealers.  We got the mk5 serviced there a few times was very impressed so bought the mk6 there. Big thumbs up regarding customer service from me regarding both sales and service at both dealers.

A funny story was my first experience of BMW dealers who I found were extremely rude, unprofessional, and didn't take anyone who is \ or looked young seriously. I remember when I was 19 and was lucky enough to own a 6 month old 318i Msport (the original 16valve one). I took it to the local dealer in Southport for something. Went in and nobody came over etc. Went to the service desk still nobody bothered to come over even after pressing the bell and waiting. So while waiting had a quick look inside a convertible that was right by the service desk.  At that point some bloke came in to the dealership and came over the convertible. At that point a BMW sales guy sprang up to his feet right away, came over.... and said..... "mind out of the way of the gentleman lads!!!!".....

Last year was the first time went back to BMW dealer since that incident, was to look at an M3\335i as replacement for the wifes 3door mk5 GTI as needed a 4 or 5 door due to arrivale of little ones. Was a different dealer and they were ok- as soon as walked in was asked if needed any help and seemed fine - which was unexpected! Sadly for BMW sales stats ended up with the mk6 GTI after very good experience at the warrington VW and also loved the car!

Ditto. Found the staff in Leeds totally uninterested. I think they just assumed you were wasting their time. How dare you enter my showroom and enquire about purchasing a £25 car???!!! And they also wouldn't even discuss discounts which I knew you could get.
So I went down the road and found two top guys - one in Sthingyhorpe and one in Doncaster. I bought mine from the latter - no fuss, very efficient, no pressure and always rang when he said he would.
Would happily go again to him.

Interesting you say that. It shows you the potential impact of a dealer getting poor feed back etc in this forum. A case in point is myself - I work a lot in Leeds and last year when when we were on the look out for a 4\5 door replacement for the wife’s then 3 door mk5 GTI. I was going to pop into the dealer there for first look and maybe a quick test drive in a mk6 after work. However I read thread that included a very unhappy bunny who was a customer of the Leeds VW, but this was also followed by other forum members replying to the post with more negative feed back about their experience with that dealer...Made me think – hmmmm..... will stick to the other 2 dealers who found to be very good! So went ended up at the other dealer = good experience with them and the car – and put a deposit down there and then, plus will go back for services etc.

Works both ways - good feed back helps forum members with recommendations for good dealer experiences and therefore will attract more sales I would expect. This is in contrast to people experiencing poor dealer service, and therefore providing negative feed back which I suspect could potentially lead to fewer serious customers as would expect people to do a little research & searches when scoping out a new car and a dealer etc.

Even though I live in London, I will probably get my next Golf GTi from Inchcape Telford again, that is if I am as poor as I am at present. They were really excellent. I have no complaints. This would be my first car (for daily driving).
(My second car (for posing), probably a BMW M3 saloon or M5 saloon in 3 years time. Can't have 2 door vehicles anymore for obvious reasons).

I have my own retail business, the hardest part of my job is getting people through the door. if once there we don't look after them then we do not deserve their business.

My expectations are extremely high, I expect that when I pull up in a £25K golf and start poking around a £35K golf, someone will have the decency to acknowledge me!

Not sure but if they did they should have definitely offered assistance, who better a customer to buy an R other than a MK6 owner and what better part x could they hope for than a freshly waxed GTI?

Gossa  you seem very bitter mate, take your custom somwhere else , what I would do is speak to VWCS name & shame the dealer to them, and they maybe docked points?? Enjoy steve

no Steve, no bitter at all mate, disappointed i would say and maybe disappointed more for VW, they are the ones losing out.

I have found one halfway decent dealer, eurocanterbury, that's where I bought my Scirocco. Loders in Dorchester supplied the MK6 and they were pretty good but when I called them to book it in for the first service they didn't even call me back.

A good sales person will show courtesy and interest when a customer visits his business premises. Gossa is 100% correct in being disappointed. I hope he told them off. I would have.

Shortly before my father bought his 911 Turbo Porsche he pulled up in our MK5 GTI (Pajero was in for a service) outside our local Ferrari / Maserati Dealer.

They didnt even look at him, my mom and two brothers whilst they looked around the showroom. No assistance, no respect etc. We are left to assume that they saw a little MK5 GTI outside and judged that he couldnt afford their cars.

Naturally he did kick up a serious fuss and then went straight to Porsche and bought from them. I wasnt there but he did apparently take the Porsche through to Ferrari, parked it outside and when he went inside everyone offered assistance. He called the DP, smiled and waved and left.

I expect this sort of behaviour from a exotic car company. I was at the same Ferrari dealer yesterday and felt so disappointed because the bf and myself were just browsing at the new California and 430 Scuderia and there was so much I wanted to ask about the cars and they just didnt acknowedge that we were even there.  :embarassed:

But for VW to give this sort of behaviour is truly stupid... But then again. Sipho from our dealer never did call me back about a test drive in a Scirocco. Sigh.

You were lucky really as the swindon used car collection seems to be where they put all the bent cars.  We went looking for my sister for a mk5 Golf last year and all of them seemed to have something wrong with the paint work.  Resprays - wing mirrors hanging off.  Call it a lucky escape.

Evo does indeed buck the trend.

I happened to call in at Snoopy's favourite dealership last week.  They've started to sell the Skoda range too and whilst there appeared to be more sales 'desks' around the majority to satisfy greater demand on their resources the guys seemed as distant as ever.

If it's of any consolation Snoops, there were a couple of cars outside plated up and ready to go.  They like yours were in an unwashed unkept state.

Well I seem to have been very lucky with Caffyns at Haywards Heath, West Sussex.  Top notch dealership with great customer liason.  In the time that I waited for my car, I got to know my salesbloke, his manager, and the branch manager.  All top blokes.

West London (Inchcape) Service department are really very good, offer discounts on parts and labour, very friendly, helpful and professional. In fact, better service than from Honda which is just down the road. Think I might have struck gold here!

Their sales part is hopeless!

Talk about a good service department.
Went to see them just now to check the price for the Ed30 manual shift. Told them I want a discount on the part and the fitting. Their profit margin is 10% (?), it's a back order item and I got it for £180, that is a £11.45 discount. Good enough for me. Even better was the fitting charge for, well let's say, peanuts! I'm happy!
Nice people to do business with.

Was this Mann Egerton by Chance?.

I have had excellent service from them at Swindon when I brought my MK5 GTi nearly 4yrs ago.  Superb service and really friendly after the sale.  I am thinking of going back again to enquire about a MK6 GTD.  They had a 5dr black one, but think it has now been sold.

KNow exactly what you mean about leeds. Went there to test drive a R32... they said come back in 2 weeks. I didnt bother, and they didnt call. They lost my custom.

Took the R there for a minor warrenty issue (30min job) the car came back with the interior covered in dirt.. and thats saying something considering i dont clean my car much.

Went there to test drive a GTI (6). No one payed me any attention or called me back when i left me details. They lost my custom again.

Went there last week to look at some GTTDI's.... very poor service again. Wont be going back!

Well im totally different to you lot. from reading this thread.

I would much rather they left me alone to have a good look round and inspect the cars in the showroom. Then as i have legs i can go over to one of them, the one i think looks like they may know what a car is and their doing and ask for assistance. It's why one of my local dealers i have ordered quite abit from and the other i have not as i hate people hovering over me whan im having alook. I would much rather be left alone.

One of my local dealers i was at the other week because i turned up with a mate (who actually works for that group just a different brand) in a 24 year old audi, the sales person came over and asked if i wanted help and i said "i was just looking" (at the scirocco R at the time) the sales person said (i hope itwas just a joke anyway),  "just dreaming then!"

All I require is for them to ask me whether I need any help and if I am OK. They should then respect my requirements depending on my answer.
But to ignore me totally all of the time would really annoy me as would constant hovering.
Can't please me easily unfortunately!

I went to the dealer in Glasgow (verve) a while back before the mk6 came out. apart from not leaving me alone he told me many things. (this was to get me to buy an ed 30 at the time)

1. VW would be unlikely to bring out a GTI after the mk5 as there was no longer a market.

2. There was no such thing as a turbo and supercharger combination on any VW product. The 1.4 golfs ran on turbo system alone.

Now I know both of these items are false. But it's to know the staff know their product.

I don't like them hovering either. But I've stood in Leeds dealer more than once WANTING help and been ignored. Even when three of the muppets were sat in the corner huddled round a computer screen giggling to each other.
Do you think they have targets to meet - p*** 100 customers a month off and they get a bonus or something?

Arnold Clark, Phoenix Paisley was disappointing. Seemed disinterested and I seemed to know more about the product than the salesman. His attitude put me right off , or should I say the part exchange price , portably both.
Next visit was Arnold Clark Greenock, What a difference with an enthusiastic salesman who did know the product. Told him I had visited other VW dealers and if he could offer me a fair price for my trade in I would order today. He offered 1,000 more than any other dealer so I ordered a GTI. The car was delivered two weeks ahead of schedule. I ordered alloys from the accessory brochure to my surprise Arnold Clark delivered the alloys the GTI came with to my door in a van. I live 40 miles away from the garage. They day I picked the car up the salesman presented me with a very nice framed painting from a famous local artist.
So all in all it was a very satisfying experience buying the GTI.

That seems to be standard on every brand new car ordered at Arnold Clark.
When I picked up my brand new Vectra in 1998 I was presented with a framed painting. Gave it to the father in law who was delighted with it.
