Just before I bought mine a few weeks ago, I test drove a mk5 and mk6 back to back.  Wasn't really anything in it imho, certainly not enough to justify the price difference...

The Mk6 always reminds me of a foetus for some reason.  Our Mk5s have lots more road presence.
One of the main points in the Autocar article is to avoid remapped cars, this is repeated a few times.
It's just as well the Bluefin allows me to reset the ECU to the original map :smug: unlike other mappers

Yes there is a very wierd pong in this newly dug graveyard.
I know, all the cheap plastics on the Mk 5 melting in the heat.
Really low rent interior, ugly snout, sooooooo last Tuesday. YAWN!
Upgrade, update you little upstarts of yesteryear.

PS: Have a nice weekend and hope they don't break down too often.
Title: Re: This weeks Autocar
Post by: R32UK on 21 May 2010, 19:51
If i am honest...

The front of the mk6 looks the best... followed by the ed30

the rear of the mk5 R32 looks the best.. followed by the ed30

the interior of the mk6 wins hands down..

the R32 sounds the best..

the R is the quickest.

all IMO of course

The Mk6 rules and by a reasonable margin.
I'll post pictures of my Mk6 and neighbour's Mk5 nose to tail soon.

The Mk5s body is covered in unnecessay addenda which was fine for the early 2000s.
That is, the Mk5 has too much go-faster plastic everywhere making it look more Japanese than European.

But to be fair, when it was released it was way ahead in its looks over its competitors. These differences are less with the Mk6. In its heyday, which was not that long ago, it ruled supremely and more than the Mk6 does today.
It is still a very good car, but slightly dated especially on the inside.

Sorry, but I have to stick up for Wolfgang!

is that just because the s3 is cheaper? or because you want the old model with a new a3 shape due out??
Title: Re: This weeks Autocar

The bland, zero road presence, styling of the Mk6 was an attempt to stop the Golf taking away profitable Audi sales.
Fair enough, but it's a shame for the GTI.

If they make a MKVI Golf GTI Edition35, then I MAY think about getting one......Maybe!

IF...

It has at least 400+bhp capability on the stock turbo

Otherwise it would be too slow for me

I thought the the golf R has he same turbo as the ed30? pretty much the same as an s3 in a golf body... i would have thought 400bhp wouldnt not be a problem, with the added benifit of AWD also.

Yes, the Golf R does indeed have the same turbo (and engine) as the ED30 but Hurdy was talking about a so called 35th edition which will happen I would have thought (a 25th and 30th have both been made, theres also an Anni MK3 which at a guess is a 20th edition?).
