Good effort chap.

-
No it is not a joke thread. This is my car...
I thought about getting a real one but it's too expensive. Might do it in the future though. Thought about the roof too. It's still on my mind.

Thanks for the positive comments Horney.

This won't be to everyone's taste but I can understand why you want to personalise.
Like the views on the remap, more of us seem to be doing this now.
I think you are are on a slippery slope though.
-
A slippery slope indeed.

its good to see something different penguin
i had a mini cooper before i got my ed30 and have to say I felt the same, the extra power in the golf is great but it doesn't handle anything like what the mini did, hence the lack of excitement and envolvement.. had to spend quite a bit of cash on decent coilovers & anti-roll bars to make my golf perform similarly
in regards to that intake you have - it looks like its the mk5 version you bought.. this is the mk6 version :

the stage 2 kit looks very interesting
happy modding
-
Hi James, thanks for the positive vibes and the links. I looked at that site in particular before getting mine but I picked the mk5 one because I prefer the shape. I didn't really do the intake for performance. I just thought it looked a bit sexier than the OEM stuff.
What was your Mini like?
-
Anyway I thought I would put down in one effort what I have done to my car thus far.

AAM are my initials!
I want that Number Plate.

Mate IMHO you have ruined your car, it looks horrible.
How old are you BTW?

I didn't dare say it, but since you had the balls to... +1
-
I really like the engine mods, but cant say that the bonnet or wheels are to my taste. Each to their own though. If you're liking what you've done, then fair game. It's a unique car that stands out from the rest of the crowd.
James - where did you get that taxdisc holder?!

Everybody to the own , its not my cup, tea hope you enjoy the car
James this road tax reminder , its run out mate
-
I quite like the bonnet but agree the roof wants doin as well, really not a fan of the wheels though! How come you've took your plate off two pics but left it on the top one? Congrats mate, if you like it then thats all there is to it!
-
Good on you pal for doing something different.. that you like!!!
Without doubt others will see little bits they like and copy even if the whole car isnt to their taste
-
Love your balls Penguin.
I would like to have my roof in a glassy black or better still glassy Hemorite.
Will look great on a Tornado Red car IMO.
-
The plates are not available  however I thought I had deleted them from the first pic. Can someone confirm if they are still visible or not. Hopefully they are gone.
I've opened up my car to all your views. I honestly don't take offence if folk think I've ruined it. If everyone liked my car then it would kinda suck because then it wouldn't be special to me.
Although some people perhaps thought that the folks ruined the standard family golf in 1975 when they dropped a 1.6 engine into it and created a hot hatch. for others however this motoring evolution led a cult following and... if I'm not mistaken... we are all part of it
-
To me none of the pics show my plates. Is it showing you guys my plates?
Not now.
-
My initials are AAM too. So unfortunately the plates are not up for sale. Although I thought I had removed the plates in the pics. To me none of the pics show my plates. Is it showing you guys my plates?
I can't see the plates nor the tax disc holder  really sorry Penguin but I think you've ruined a really nice looking car, I hate the bonnet but ETTO  my best friend had a mini cooper sport and although it was a nice car after a while the ride was so hard you just wanted out, not something that happens with the GTI as the ride is so comfortable I just want to stay in my car forever

Do any of you know how I can get my roof to be a glassy black or hemorite?
-
One way would be a section respray. Another option would be a vinyl but vinyl result is not shiny. You could always go the full 10 yards and get a panoramic roof. That might look pretty nice.

Don't you dare do it

One thing I am going to say. On another topic a group of folks started complaining there was too much banter. Now that I have posted a dedicated topic to my GTI folk encourage my enthusiasm with comments like

and
Mate IMHO you have ruined your car, it looks horrible.

I appreciate not everyone shares the same likes and such but need we be so friendly and encouraging to each other :undecided: I don't mind you not liking it but you are part of a forum and your commenting on other folks time, money and hard work. Perhaps some tactful consideration would be a better course in future.
And if I'm not mistaken then there's a couple of tuning companies have decided to style their mk6 GTI's in a similar fashion to mine. Have a look at the latest EVO magazine for starters.

But don't you think that a roof looking like shiny black glass would look great on a red car? Just imagine it.
Definitely not interested in vinyl or carbon fibre just shiny black glass.
Probably be impossible to get this done, so it's a pie in the sky!
But first things first: Can't wait to get those LEDs. Simply beautiful. The best bit of jewellery for a Golf bar none IMO.
-
^ Probably a job for a pro custom shop mate, if you wanted the roof replacing with glass! Summat like west coast customs would do.

Not Really the same thing lol.
Change the roof mate, Lose the wheels and uve got a good looking motor. Wheels look cheap imo. Go for the VWR black ones, Like FroGTI, And ude have 1 good looking motor.

Probably cost an arm and a leg. Will have to sell the Forum Missus (Gizzy) to pay for it!
Any idea of how much it may cost? I don't want to rip the roof apart, just it covered with a glassy surface.
You say West Coast Customs might be a possibility. Have you had dealings with them?
-

it's a forum - everyone is entitled to their opinions, just as you are entitled to cover your car in fake carbon wrap tat. if you don't want comments on it; don't post photos.
-
I suppose... but being respectful is always nice
am1w - we should form a Tornado Red owner's club for folk with Tornado Red GTIs and AAM initials
-
'One man's meat is another man's poison'.
The guy has posted pictures of his labour and shown great individuality. I, for one, commend him.
We are all entitled to our opinions and are free to express them. But it would be so much more pleasant to do so without a vicious streak and with a greater sense of humour which is sadly lacking much of the time.
Hopefully after tomorrow's election result, we can all turn over a new leaf!
Goodnight!

No mate, West Coast Customs is that company from the discovery channel (custom my ride) in the states, but no doubt there would be some similar company over here. Reckon getting it painted gloss black would be your best bet if thats what ya fancy, or gloss vinyl come to think of it, at least it's easily sorted if you change your mind!

-
dude , you've 'chaved it'. why mess with a legend? well not one that cost 24 grand. let them pimp it out when a mark6 costs a few grand like they are with the mark 5 etc.... i wouldn't and couldn't custom mine- not a clever idea when u decide to sell up.
that bonnet is butt ugly.
-
Each to their own, Pengiun and not to my taste but you sharing these pix along with your words sum up the openess [sp?] of what this forum is about.

Wow, this is stupid. A guy is trying to have fun and enjoy his car rather than winge that a bolt hasn't been fully tightened to the spec or any other balls a few of you keep going to the dealer for.
Keep going mate!
-
Not my taste....but who cares.......my compliments that you want to have a daring and different look.......it is your money and your fun....ENJOY
I think it is just fun to see a load of different GTI's on the road.....
-
+1 Caistor and Erik.
Penguin is having fun and provides an enjoyable thread.
And that's what it is all about.
-
To be honest, I like everything you've done so far, with the exception being the bonnet.
That bonnet mod works on the MKV because of creases that follow a line up from the grill, all the way up the bonnet.
However, the MKVI's grilll/bonnet doesn't do that, but you could re-do the whole bonnet R26.R style, though!?
That mod will make you easier to spot around Glasgow, Penguin!

^^^ Couldn't agree more :afro:

Thanks alot guys for the comments. Nice to finally be getting some appreciation
Nah only kidding. The reason I put it up is to hopefully encourage some of you guys to get up your own threads. I for one love reading the Dubs projects pages but I feel the mk6 section is sorely lacking some proper reading material. You defo don't need to do what I have done (mod wise) but get up some pics and some words about how you are enjoying your cars.
To those who have already been putting up some proper material thank you - it is nice to have wholesome threads to tuck into

Will be in Glasgow/Hamilton around mid June to see many good friends.
It seems the nicest people hail from Lanarkshire!

Unfortunately I'll be deprived of sleep at that point and in France as I'm heading to see the Le Mans 24 before nipping up for a few laps of the Ring...
Gutted as we could have had a first meet of our AAM club
