Car alarm went off this morning for no bloody reason.
Any idea why this would happen ? (No it wasnt being tampered with before anyone says)
-
I live on a main road and there are huge containership lorries coming via the docks at Grimsby and Hull that zip past creating a rush of air that on numerous occasions sets of the car alarm.
I have to say it is bloody irritating having to clamber out of bed, hunt down the key and aim it in the general direction of the car. Usually in the early hours
Gizzy

Ah ok, so it could have been something like that. Not sure if the binmen were around this morning so it might have been them. Strange its never happened before though.

Kev my dear: The earth moves for you and your baby responds!
-
I had this a few times and went to my dealer.
my dealer has set the alarm again, it appeared that the interioralarm was sharply tuned, for example by wind pressure could go on.
I hope this will help something
-
I had it on the ED30 and t was a loose battery conection!! Check they are nice & tight, just like the cheeks of your Ars*

How apt. A sensitive car for a sensitive and sensible lady.

Be aware Kev sometimes a criminal activates your car alarm just until you get sick of it and de-activate the alarm....
I am not trying to be negative but just a quick warning how they go about sometimes overhere (in the netherlands) that is all....
While I type this it comes to mind......I do not even know how to de-activate my alarm...

I,ve had two false alarms in 9 months both at night and both when it was abit chilly its not done it for at least 3 months so i`m just going to leave it untill it gets serviced and ask them to turn the interior sensor sensitivity down abit(unless it starts to play up). :undecided:

Anybody reading the Mk6 GTi forum posts will think we are a bunch of nutters (I am one and proud of it) and that we have bought expensive lemons!

Or by now the "other car" owners really start to become jealous because the only thing we can come up with is all these minute flaws...... :smug:

Temporary fix (until you get the dealers to tone down the sensitivity of the alarm) against passing traffic setting the alarm off is to close the air vents before locking the car up :nerd:

Thanks everyone

Make that three  .
If it alarms will it switch its self off or will it just carry on untill the battery goes flat ?,seems to alarm for 30 secs then stop for a couple of secs then alarm again, ive not had chance to leave it to see what happens because it has always been in the middle of the night.once i reset it with the keys all is fine
-
Get VW to reset it so that it is less sensitive. Must be so annoying.
Hope you are well.

Have you tried swirching off the ultrasonics with the button on the door pillar to make sure thats what is setting it off and not a door/bonnet/hatch switch fault.

Its only happened 3 times in a year each time at night when the weather has been calm and no one is anywhere near the car,its one of those annoying intermittent faults im going to get them to look at it when it goes in for its first service i was just a little concerned it might do it when im not around to reset it and carry on untill the battery goes flat.Should`nt it reset its self if there is nothing wrong ?
-
Computer says no what a surprise  they have turned the internal sensors down to 90%.
P.s i think Vw dealers new catchphrase is" if that does not work we will email Vw to see what they recommend " they have said this twice to me now for two different intermittent problems
-
The reason i posted to try with the sensors off is it may not be the sensors and be one of the switches. (doors, boot, bonnet)
If you have ever seen the rear of a door switch, What use to happen was that water would run down the door pillar and create a circuit across the contacts of the switch body. This would trigger an alarm. Its also known for intermittent faults in the past with bonnet switches on VW.
-
I had one false alarm so far which is more than I had the last four years with the MK V. Even that one time it p&ssed me off so I know how you all feel.
BTW are you compelled to wear the alarm stickers (insurancewise) I would love to peel it off (behind the rear window under the wiper).....and can I use a fluid there which does not effect the heating.
-
...... and can I use a fluid there which does not effect the heating.
What's that?

I don't have any alarm stickers on mine

I agree it could be one of many things it does not help with it being a very intermittent problem, the last time it happened i took it in less than a week later and i had only used the car twice inbetween the alarm going off and the dealer plugging it in,the computer system can not be up to much if it had not stored any information in that short time. Its not a major problem just a little annoying in the middle of the night and would be more of a problem if no one was around to reset it. :undecided:

Silly question this I suppose but here goes. I always lock the car with the remote pressing just the once however when I have the dog with me which is much of the time I am unable to lock the car as the movement sets off the alarm.
I have tried to lift up the little latch by the door handle but it will not shift, so anyone know how I can lock my car bypassing the alarm, I guess I've been lucky so far that no one has broken in.

There is a button inside the drivers door which shuts off the internal sensors, open the drivers door and look on the body work you will see a button.
-
A little tip too you seem to have to have the door open before the switch will work and allow you to turn off the sensors as it does not change colour otherwise. Ive made that mistake a couple of times :embarassed:

Or mine.
Here a pic of my alarmsticker...the fluid is thinner or sticker-removers a bit afraid of damaging the rearwindow-heat-tracing.

Just gently peal it off. We get dealer name stickers in this location and i have removed them upto a year later without problems.

Thanks Snoops, yeah when Simon put in his post I went and tried it with the door shut and it didn't work, so another lesson learned.
Great forum this for learning new things and tricks

I cannot remember but have a look in the manual it may say that the alarm led after it is set off then flashes up a fault code sequence with a certain amount of led flashes to say what set it off. Most alarm units do this. The problem is if you switch it off then switch it back on this clears the alarm code (alarm unit not car CAN system).
