I have a Candy white, and already there are stone chips appearing in and around front bumper got 3-4 chips going on!! My last mk5 only had 2 chips which over 12k is not bad, The GTD has only 18,00 miles the paintwork seems to be very soft its not got hard coat on it?? I am concerned about the finish of the MK6??
Anybody else got issues with paintwork?? Thanks Steve

Morning Steve:
Snoops is going to start a thread and possibly a poll.
Anyhoops, I am also getting a bit concerned with the paint issues. Saw a white GTi on a '59 plate in my area and the bonnet and bumper were the worse for wear!
Off to Hellfords now for some vinyl paint. Should be in Church instead praying for our paint issues!
-
The more people power on the thread the better?? Hopefully get VW CS to look at this!! Its going to be a battle though with them??

Yes, I bet it is. But, as you say, people power is the way.
BTW, got the guy from Chipsaway to come and see my car tomorrow! Spoke to him just now before going to Hellfords! Won't bother now. Can relax a bit as I am feeling a bit happier.
It really caused me a bad night's sleep.
Wolfgang is only a young boy one still and needs lots of TLC.
That sounds a bit better!

Maybe people should know why this thread has been started for the mk6.
There has been at least 2 letters in Autoexpress in the past week from owners of Mk6 Golfs who previously owned mk5s or other VW products. Who are complaining about how soft the paint is on mk6 Golfs and how easy its chipped.
The magazines own red Golf GTD is suffering too, and the coments in the magazine in the long term review weekly updates is what sparked people writing in.
Autoexpress has also comented on the soft easy chipped paint finish of the facelifted SEAT Leon FR they have (Orange) and how owners of the car on seatcupra.net are also complaining.
-
Will VW not just point you all to the new EU legislations though about having to use waterbased paints on cars? From some of the other forums i frequent, it isn't much different on Honda's or BMW's either.
-
But VW has been using water based paints since the mk3.
edit.

Me thinks this thread will end up as the longest one ever as it will run and run until we sell our pockmarked Mk6s!
I also wonder how many re-sprays will take place. Another thread a bit later on?
Good thinking Steve for starting this and Snoops with your last post for clarifying the situation
Let the floodgates open!

Well put Snoopy, i'm not very good at writing stuff on here, just like to keep it simple!! Hopefully get VW to address this?

Well as some of you know I've been having probs with my paint. I've started talking to my dealer about it and will keep you posted how that goes. I'm meeting again with the head guy at the dealership tomorrow.
Good to know there's a few of us able to support each other with having this problem cause individual cases would be hard to get anywhere with.
Add me to the list.

Now look at this!
This is a '59 plate 5 door Golf Mk6 TSi in Carbon Grey and the brown stuff is not all mud!
In fact, I think, 80% of this has ended up as a paint problem on both sides!
I had a good look and feel!

That is an advert for Mudflaps if I ever saw one. Although they are not for me on the mk6 think they look awful. They suit the mk5 better and I think its to do with the black bumper trim on the mk5. Rather than the nearly fully body coloured bumper.

If I was the owner of that mess, I would by now certainly be in a flap!

7 month year old car
7000 miles
Bonnet is like a drive-by shooting  but then I do like to drive enthusiastically

am1w - please let me know how you get on with Chipsaway in London. I've got a nasty stone chip on my front bumper. I work in London so I wouldn't mind using them if they are any good.
Thanks M

Hi MAW.
Sorry about your chip on the front bumper.
I am seeing him this evening at 5pm.
They have different operatives working in different areas.
Mine is for West London and his name is Tony Daher, tel no 0773 688 700. I have heard of him before and he is of good repute.
The repair of the 'nick' on the black plastic of the rear bumper will cost more than the part itself, which costs approx £60. So I have ordered the part. However, I am going to ask him to attend to the chip on the painted part of the rear bumper which I think was due to some carless parking by some horrible person/thing.
Will keep you posted.
-
3700 miles and this is by far the worst I've seen on any car I have bought, I had a black metalic Fiesta last and in 7000 miles doing the same journey's nothing nada. Where do we go from here ?

I think he covers your area too.
The contact tel no for another Chipsaway guy who is based in Battersea is 07796 178 808. I, for the life of me, cannot recall his name. But his initials are L.L! The name sounded Chinese to me!

Anybody have any experience /thoughts on this option? Maybe just get the bonnet covered?
http://www.bodyguarduk.com/
Found it on a link that was previously posted re Audi TTRS project car.
They seem to use it on all their cars and swear by it. "Stones bounce off the paint", allegedley.....
No prices on the website though

This is a 3M system which is like cling film.
Not my cup of tea.
Quite expensive if you want the whole car done.
Goes yellow at the edges especially on a white car.

Hi MAW.
I did not have the rear diffuser fixed because it is better for me to change the part which I will this Saturday. The costs are the same, approx £60.
I spoke to and met with Tony Daher, as he was in my area fixing a white Mini Cooper's front bumper. The job he had just completed was truly superb. He had sprayed the whole bumper perfectly! I was really impressed. He is car mad and loves the Golf GTi!
Stick with him and don't go to the Chinese guy (overpriced) or anyone else. Tony Daher's charges are very, very reasonable and he is a very nice man. He will come to your area in Wandsworth. I spoke to him about you.
Hope this is of help and all the best.
AM.

That's quite odd, a few people now have said about stone chips on door handles.
I had one on the passenger door handle, sticks out quite a bit.

No not really just the ongoing issue around stone chips appearing on the car , and also the paintwork is to thin and it's starting to swirll pissing me off
The dearler was very good today they have booked me in to see there speacalist who deals with paintwork issues's!! So see what he has to say on Monday ?
-
Let us know what they say. Im waiting for my dealer to get back to me with an apointment about my issues i have had with paint. VWcs was on the phone again to ask me if i had seen anyone yet so hope they hurry things along.

Sorry to hear this Steve. Really very upsetting. I am also terrified of getting them on my red paintwork. I magine how much worse it will look than on a white car!
So far ok.
I had this problem with the Honda and they had to respray the car!
Really hope it gets sorted. It spoils the ownership experience.
-
Re- spray would be good me thinks big job? Thanks though for support.
They may not do anything about it? Just going to push them hard on this!

When i had problems with my red mk6 gti i also seen the independent vw specialist about my paint issue's.
Absolute waste of time, got a load of pencils out and started pressing them into my paintwork and then looked to see which one's left a mark also rubbed a solution onto the paintwork with cotton wool to see if it removed any paint.
In the end he will tell you it's "within tolerence's" and the swirls happen with poor wash techniques
-

The re-spray caused me more problems as the inside and outside trim had to be re-fitted and re-fitted and fcuking re-fitted again and again and again .... then once they had done this the trim got damaged ..... then some parts were not properly painted ...... then the new paintwork got worse swirl marks ..... I could go on and on ....... took 9 months to sort it out .... but they were very nice and helpful ..... I nearly started taking anti-depressants and tranquilisers ...... it was a daymare and nightmare ..... you get the picture ........ an experience in hell!

Sundaydriver: Independent? or do you meen dealer paint guy if they try to do that to my car they better call an ambulance as he will be sparked out.

Not showing off here just telling it like it is!!

I paid for an 'indpendent engineer' and he wrote a scathing report. Things really began to happen in my favour very quickly!
Cost me, I think, £85. Worth it. I got the £85 back with a free service!

Steve: If you have problems, I will fish out the name of the company I used. Very good I must admit. They hate a negative report!

Just out of interest, what did the indi engineer have to say?

Sundaydriver: Independent? or do you meen dealer paint guy if they try to do that to my car they better call an ambulance as he will be sparked out.
I've had two run in's with vw about paintwork. The process is I go and see my local dealer, he then sends me to their bodyshop(which is 20 miles away in Northallerton. The bodyshop manager then takes photo's and emails then to VW.
About a week later you get a call from the bodyshop asking me to take the car to the dealers for their INDEPENDANT paint guy. He's not from VW , just paid by VW to provide an independant report.
-
Also took my two buckets, grit guards and lambswool mitt etc with me to show the Indy specialist I don't do poor wash techniques.
Took me 2 months of writing letters and constant phone calls to reject it.
Touch wood the new White GTI seems to be a lot better.

I did coever it DODO SN and it does look awsome. Another chip on the bonnet now.
