OK, been mentioned before quite a while ago.
Loads of new GTI/R owners now though.
What do you call him/her??
Mine's Wolfie after the place he was born and the dangly toy from the Wolfsburg visit on the mirror.
And he's a him.
Apparantly some GTIs are girls??
-
Mine is called "Dom"... he is a he.
-
Need to, but haven't decided name or gender yet
-
I have yet to decide whether mine is a boy or a girl.
If it is a boy he will be Wolfgang meaning 'advancing wolf'.
If it is girl she will be Heidi meaning 'noble, serene, exalted nature, kind'.
I might even call her Linda which means 'beautiful, sweet, noble, pretty'.
I am also thinking of Linda Lovelace who was my onetime neighbour!
I am reserving these names!
.
-
It is going to be Wolfgang or Linda.
I will decide after I get her/him washed and dried tomorrow.
-
Wolfgang is a perfect GTI name. Love it.
I have had cars called Brum, Lucy, Hermann and Fred before now, non of them GTIs though.
-
Sometimes I call mine cnut. 'Faster ya cnut come on'
Stuff like that

Come on Kev be a bit more human...
Your car is a stunner and must be part of the family...
No name?? Then think of one and you'll enjoy him/her even more.

I wish I'd thought of it first.

Actually all quite tasteless (Including Linda but maybe she begs to differ ) if I may be so blunt....
Why not more creative and honor for instance one of the best racing horses of all times...or honor anybody or anything you like to give your name more depth (see Rolfe e.g.)...
The greatest racehorse of all time must be, without a doubt, a Hungarian filly by the name of Kincsem.
Her name stems from the root word "Kincs" which is Hungarian for "treasure" or "jewel", and the entire word means "My Treasure". Over the course of four full seasons, from ages 2 - 5, she faced the best that all of Europe had to offer, and emerged victorious in all 54 of her races.

Mines called stinky at the moment as the waxoyl stinks as it drys and its stinking the house out

I see you got the message instantly...

Mine is called Rupert...
Rupert the aaaaaRRRRR!!!
So my missus says anyway - with her BMW being called Bella!
-
In case anyone hadn't picked up on it, mine's called Prospero, continuing a theme of cars called after characters from The Tempest (the first one, a Fiesta, was Miranda - she who is worthy to be admired).
Rolfe.

Rupert it is. Great name.
Mention him in your Signature or he will feel unloved.
You have been ripping him to shreds in the last few days so some TLC is very necessary!

I was always wary of giving cars names. It is after all just a car.
Having said that, I do think cars have personalities. Being easy going, or temperamental. Expensive tastes or cheap 'n' cheerful. Likes the outdoors or prefers indoor activites. Light and athletic or heavy and lazy. You can apply all these traits to cars.
So far with mine, all is well. The relationship I have with it at the moment is still the sort of 'honeymoon' stage. I'm having lots of fun with it, but there are a few things with it I'm very confused about, especially the way the keyfob functions. For instance to open all the doors I have to double-press the open button, whilst on my old car I was just used to pressing the button once. And I've discovered the boot release will unlock the door, but as soon as the door is closed it sounds like it automatically locks itself! OMG I could lock the keys inside accidentally. I'd be royally phooked if I couldn't access my spare key. This to me gives me that feeling of a bit like being introduced to a new colleague at work - you know what they are capable of, but if they fh00k summat up, you don't know how much by!
And I would say the GTI has a 'male' personality to it, that's just my own experience. Having said that if you compare the GTI with the R, the GTI would surely be the girly one. So I guess my GTI has to be a girl. Damn.... I've only just realised I bought a girly car...
and if I were to pick a name for mine, it would surely be "Six-Penalty-Points".
-
You can set it up to unlock with one keypress. Mine doesn't lock itself so I couldn't possibly lock the keys in it.

Hilarious!

yes i had a tiny look at the convenience menu to see all the different features, but the amount of options in it is to me just out of this world, it's like trying to figure out how to use a new mobile phone! i'll have to go through the instruction manual for a bit longer - i'm normally pretty anal about these little things but lately i just wanna drive the car and not be too concerned about how the locks work!

........... i just wanna drive the car and not be too concerned about how the locks work!

I read the instruction manual to learn how to turn the heated seat off as my backside was being cooked for 4 miles on full heat and how to get the nearside parking mirror working!
Must read some more this weekend!

Tell me about it. I had many strange glances as I was wriggling away like there was no tomorrow! Had to put Wolfgang in 'sport' mode to get to the manual which was at home! Now it is with Wolfgang all the time!
Not funny at the time I can tell you.
