Title: 200 BHP
Post by: VR6_Wherry on 12 April 2010, 16:34
What things would i need to do be able to break the 200BHP mark?

I got a VR6 OBD1..

I will be gettin a BMC CDA Induction Kit, Scorpion cat back exhaust, Jetex Decat, Dub Power Manifold and hopefuly a chip and remap. Any thing else i can add to try and acheive that without breaking the pockets? Cams will come into at some stage but for now i want to attack the basics.

Cheers Guys!

A genuine 200+ you are going to need either headwork, or cams. Or both.
You may well get close with bolt ons on an optimistic dyno...along with things like a 2.9 upper inlet manifold and modified TB...but to assure over 200, you'll need better cams.

Headwork, cams, modified TB, decent exhaust etc will see you over 220 BHP.

Both would be the best bet then i imagine. For all the above and to do it properly what kind of money am i looking at to get this done?

Nothing better then the looks on their faces when they are in the 20K+ cars and you got a banging VR6 and your only 21! They do think "Actually that's not too bad"

I bet LL knows what i'm talking about!

Said it before and I'll say it again..

We all know the 1.6 MPI is the fastest of the bunch

Raced my mates Mk3 Golf 1.8 SE on Friday night in Ipswich, we were side by side from the traffic lights to this corner which is about quarter of a mile from the lights.

Parked up afterwards and he said "what have you done to that, I couldn't pull away from you"

Gutted.

Yea I haven't really taken this thread seriously sorry

We all know the main mods you need are..
- Go faster stripes
- Shopping list on both doors or for MASSIVE bhp it's all about the shopping list down one side of your bonnet
- Undercar neons
- Motorsport badges (or similar) from Halfords
- Exhaust tailpipe trims
- Lexus rear lights
- Chrome mesh, lots of it
- Chrome stick on trim
- Alloy wiper blades

Already done it mate, I removed the lenses from my headlights, trimmed the reflectors at the bottom, and stuck the LED strips in there...

Looks OEM during the day and I actually like it, just haven't got round to taking pics yet.

Wasn't going to mention it on the forum because everyone will think I'm a chav :lipsrsealed:

All mk 3s have a belt driven bilge pump, disconnect that first and let water run out through the rust holes in the floor. This mod will get you proven 30bhp the real beauty off this is as you rot the floor out more you lighten the kerb weight giving you better p/w ratio

Yeah but the VR noise and potential.

You get two distinct noises...one of the fine sounding engine, the other of the tyres being tortured as it understeers round every corner.

Schrick inlet manifold

...gives you little or no extra power, over a 2.9 upper.
The Schrick is all about torque low down...it'll give 40-50 lb-ft low down, but maybe a handful (<5 BHP) more power at peak, even on a fully ported VSR.

I hear that by running a set of 22's with painted on tyres you reduce friction to give you at least 7bhp. I am definately doing this mod
