If I took my car to vw can the know If it's been remapped?
Service manager said they carnt but still worried and unsure hope you guys can tell me
-
why would it matter mate?
-
why would it matter mate?
true as its not under warranty
just advise them when you take it in and tell them any joy riders will be terminated
-
Even if it was under warrenty, hasn't the dealer got to prove scientifically that the remap has caused the failure of any parts?

yep although they will make it as difficult as possible
if its non engine related warranty then it should be a piece of cake
All of this is irrelevant on a MK4 though
-
I have 1 years warranty and clutch is slipping but it was slipping slightly before map
-
Clutch will not be covered by the warranty, its classed as a wear and tear item

+1
-
unfortunately as steve & adam have said 'wear and tear'
-
great looks like no new clutch for me
where is the cheapest place to get a sachs uprated clutch can only find them for 1200+ was hoping to get one for 300-500 and fit myself
-
you wont get one for under £550 might even be well over £600 now
Id get a standard clutch
-
wheres best place for that? i have looked on euro carparts and they list 2 different brands and i was tolf i need to see what brand my fly wheel is first before i can order a clutch as i have to match the brands up was told this by a local garage is this true?
-
I believe it is true, could replace the flywheel as well
-
What car is it? I'd go G60/Vr6 option!
-
I replaced mine with a race clutch not long ago for just over £600 at R-Tech.
-
r-tech is 785 now
i have a tdi so g60vr6 wont work
-
i can get a clutch fitted for £150 but i have to supply the clutch ,not sure how much they are ,i will find out one day as my car has done 96000 mile and has never had the clutch done ... :embarassed:
-
I've got a Sachs clutch and an LUK flywheel. Done 30K so far.........
-
r-tech is 785 now
i have a tdi so g60vr6 wont work
5 or 6 speed?

6 speed hence why it won't work

I've got a Sachs clutch and an LUK flywheel. Done 30K so far.........
an upgraded sachs clutch

indeed but I've still mixed and matched different brands so can't see why people say to fit the same brand clutch and flywheel :undecided:
-
Vwspares only lists the sachs one for my car so thinking that's the right one?
-

LUK, Sachs etc etc are pretty much the same though I'd go with a Sachs clutch
Make sure you adopt your driving style to accomodate the new power otherwise you'll be forking out for a new clutch within a few months!
-
just found this so looks like clutch is covered http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/warranty/used-car/3-years-plus

if i get standard clutch will only be having it for 6-8 months enought time to get uprated one

didnt you have a flywheel sent to you which didnt fit :undecided: keith watkins told me you have to get the correct clutch to match the flywheel

I dont see the point in fitting a new clutch then swapping it for a upgraded one a few months if the new one is fine. new standard clutch will handle the power fine but it may not last as long as a upgraded one.
when my clutch goes Ill be swapping it for a standard one. my original clutch has done 120k, 40k with a remap and 80k without
-
well hopefully in 6-8 months i will maybe be going for something a little special so will need a better clutch but for now will try to get it done under warranty
-
if its anything to do with a hybrid turbo dont bother save your cash....... :lipsrsealed:
-
not hybrid turbo.
what amount of torgue can a standard clutch take?

just seens this this is a bit cheap but would it do?

that was an epic fail on behalf of buypartsbuy.co.uk who I would never purchase from ever again   Garage I used for the fitting sourced me an LUK one locally
A flywheel is a flywheel regardless of manufacture - bit like an oil filter - they all do the same job
-
so is it a must to replace the flywheel when doing the clutch?

-
so is it a must to replace the flywheel when doing the clutch?
not a must as it depends on the condition of it but to be honest its worth doing whilst you got everything apart as you'll have to fork out for labour again should it go soon after
Its also a false economy fitting a standard clutch if you're planning to upgrade in a few months time

is this one ok or not as its so cheap?
also could me having my breaks bled wrong cuase a lack of fluid or in the the clutch system ? prob a stupid question but hey dont ask you dont know
-
bump

Don't put transmech sh!te in your car dude, google it.
I've had a single mass flywheel and clutch conversion done on mine recently... now it's bedded in it's ok but it aint as nice as a dual mass setup IMO.
I was gonna get the transmech kit for like 150 quid but heard many bad things when I looked into it. Transmech in general seem crap, clutch failures on loads of cars not just VW.
Ended up with a Valeo kit in the end for 218 from euro car parts, cost £310 all in fitted with labour etc.

what amount of torque can the standard clutch take????
-
what amount of torque can the standard clutch take????
285lbs ft torque or thereabouts
Basically it will cope but it will wear out far quicker so instead of say 60K miles you'll probably only get 30-40K but again a lot of it depends on your driving style
Planting your foot whilst in 5th gear at 40mph will do it no favours at all
-
going to sound daft here but why is that if you plant you foot in 5th at 40mph the car will struggle so not much torque just not enought revs? please educate me
-

Exactly - you haven't got enough revs so you put strain on the engine, clutch , gearbox etc as you are in effect overloading everything by requesting full power at low RPM.
Don't forget prior to the remap the car was producing far less torque at lower RPM's so you could sort of get away with it although it still doesn't do the transmission any favours
Basically only plant your foot down in any gear from approx 1800rpm to increase the lifespan of your clutch and also when driving up hill be in one gear higher than you normally would be prior to the remap
-
right i get it. so if i was in fourth going up hill i should put it in 5th now?
i used to drive round keeping the revs low for fuel comsuption but maybe thats whats done my cltch going 30 in 4th maybe not good idea
-

other way around - 4th should be 3rd gear but it all depends on the conditions, speed of the road, steepness of the hill etc
What works for me might not work for you but the key is not to stress the engine. Be in the right gear at the right speed for the conditions
It's basic driving 101 and is what you learn when being taught to drive (I Hope!)
30mph in 4th is perfectly fine as long as the road is flat or downhill but if you then want to accelerate I'd change down a gear or only apply a light throttle until you're doing 40mph before pinning your foot to the floor
-
when being taught to drive  i taught myself lol
question for you rhyso when i brake lately my wheels seem to tighten up throught the steering and the move side to side slightly. hope you get what am saying if not will try to explain in great detail

Not up to speed on brakes mate - sounds like the car is following the camber of the road :undecided:
It doesn't brake in a straight line? Is that what you mean?
-
when i brake i feel through the steering the car twitch side to side and this is only braking at around 30. just read on another page it could be warped disks but i have only had the disks on for a few weeks. its only just started to happen never happen when first put calipers on but now they have been bled 99% right could it be they are just bedded in and are braking very good and thats whats causing the feel?

not sure - never driven a Golf with Porsche brakes fitted
to me its possible your tracking could be out or the car is just following the camber of the road :undecided:
-
ok cheers for help will get tracking checked and try different roads.
just seen you thread and you fitted recaro seats are they a lot better than standard seats or is the difference just the name stiched on?

Night and day difference! Recaro's are SOOO much better
-
are they more cushioned on the side as am a big lad 20st but not fat i might just point out and the side bits of the seats dig in my thighs?
also got update on clutch from vw anyone like to know the outcome?

they have better lower back support which is also adjustable :afro:
I reckon you're a jammy f**k*r and will be having a new clutch fitted for nowt
-
not that far off
-
not that far off
go on then - whats the score?
-
they said becase its only just started to slip and its not that badly worn they wont replace for free.
so i convinced them to fit a new clutch for free and realse bearing and i pay for parts which totalled 250 i said i can get cheaper for same parts and i was not happy.
guy came back with 140 all in fully fitted bargain
think thats pretty good dont you
-
not a bad result at all :afro:
Get them to check the condition of the flywheel though as its only a few bolts holding that in
-
could that be badly worn then? thought they where pretty tough?
-
could that be badly worn then? thought they where pretty tough?
dual mass flywheels are one of the worst inventions after the MAF
When VW first started using them there were no end of early failures
They are designed to reduce cabin noise and vibration which they do very well up until the point they start breaking apart and become noisey and rattly
-
could that be the cause of the vibration i have through the pedals and steering/dash board when i boot it?
-
could that be the cause of the vibration i have through the pedals and steering/dash board when i boot it?
could be a number of things but its most likely one of them
other things include engine mounts, suspension bushes etc etc
-
just spoke to them and they said it was part of there inspection and all looks fine to them but then again they are vw techs
-
got car back and wow what a difference its so smooth now since i had the car the change into first has always been juppy but now its so smooth time to start saving fo uprated clutch now
-
Result :afro:
Now to find some unsuspecting fast lane hoggers and chavs
-
does it need bedding in before i put foot down or are clutchs ready to go?
-

bed it in for around 200 miles before unleashing the power
-
great missed your last post m8 went training then straight to work then deciced as the little streatch of motor way is empty to see what she has not and i like it very pokie. so i have given it a blast will this has messed things up? will take it easy till rr at r-tech on 29th to see exactaly what am putting out should hope fully make 200bhp
