Title: MK6 owners please look and tell me if yours is the same please
Post by: Snoopy on 26 March 2010, 22:20
More odd questions

So the question is, Is behind your front suspension struts the same colour as your car?

Mine arn't,
they don't look very well protected either
Mines a sort of whitish undercoat colour

Your boot floor is it body colour?

I am going to have a good look tomorrow.
Are you a bit worried as if something untoward has happened?

Just checking thats all. You know VW is rushing them out to clear the backlog  and i don't have the greatest luck at the best of times.

Hey Snoopy good to see you got your car at last, but it kind of looks like they ran out of Shadow blue whilst painting it! I could forgive the boot floor but not the wheel arches and a pillars...  doesn't look right to me

In this video at the start you would swear the boot floor is silver http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBJkl_LPPAQ&feature=related and was it painted like this??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0CvXT675nM&feature=related

Yes the paint looks similar colour to that as can be seen in my photos above.
|Im use to having silver cars so i probably would not have noticed the difference in that colour  :embarassed:
Oh and the video showing them fitting the grill, those are the screws i adjusted to get my grill to fit better yesterday.

A couple of extra questions

When i switch the ignition off theres 3 beeps (over about a 3 second interval) then a click from under the bonnet is that normal

My xenons also don't seem to do the startup dance

Im starting to sound like James Gould

fire the guy that fitted the grill we know who he is.

On my mk5 the boot is a pale red and white, not like the Tornado Red on the outside.  So you can assume its ok.

What about under the arches were the plastic does not cover? Thats the one im most worried about due to its location.

I was nosing around a white Golf in the dealership when I was looking to buy mine and I remarked to the wife about the boot floor being the same primer colour as you show in your first post. As others have said, it's all about cost reduction

Yep wheel arches at the front are pasty pink too on my mk5.

(1) With my Xenons, which are retro-fit ones, there is no click from under the bonnet. No 3 beeps or 'start-up dance'. It seems that the 'start-up dance' is not a good thing as it is indicative of a sub-standard fitting.

(2) What I find annoying is that one has to keep the 'close' button held down all the time on the key fob for the open windows to close. A quick press and release the second time does not close the windows. Maybe this can be re-programmed.

(3) With driving lights on, the tail and number plate lights are off.

(4) Driven 20 miles in London today in comfort mode. Roads are really horrible and the comfort mode definitely does help.

(5) Could not get the bonnet re-aligned today as the Warranty Manager was not in and she has to see this in order to give the bodyshop the go-ahead. Monday will be the day. Checked 3 other Golfs and all of them had simiiar mis-alighnment problems of the bonnet.

(6) Noticed quite a bit of tyre roar and wind rustling at speed (75mph, speed limit 50 mph!) on the A40 Western Avenue in London. Maybe the Bridgestones will bed-in.

(7) Difficult to use the cigarette lighter without cutting my thumb due to sharp edged plastic surround around the lighter. Yes, I smoke but don't use the ashtray!

(8) Luggage net in boot is a most useful but expensive accessory at £41.

(9) Steel trims on door sills are very enhancing and worth the money.

(10) Possibly wish I had optioned the Dynaudio sound system. I'll wait and see how the standard speaker system sounds with the more powerful RNS 510 amplifier.

(11) Great colour. The red seems to get brighter and more dramatic by the day!

Love the car more and more by the day.

So far, that is all I have to report.

Can some of you guys maybe take a photo of the wheel arch, just rest your camera or phone on the top of the tyre and put the flash on, thats all i did. Im a bit concerned by mine.

Makes you wonder what else you can't see that they leave off in the name of cost saving... I am surprised they don't put a proper coat of paint in these areas any more but I guess it's not going to make much difference, assuming they've applied proper corrosion protection. A few extra layers of paint and clear coat in these areas would help though and it's the first time I've ever seen seam sealer which hasn't been painted over.

Hi Snoopy

Don't be concerned... I picked up my car today & its just the same on mine!

I asked (my dealer) if that was normal and he said afraid so! He also showed me another GTI & a GTD which again were the same!

A slight concern  of mine is that when i got home and parked up there was a distinct burning smell (rear end) when I got out (I had taken it very easy)!

Is that normal?!

Ben

Thanks mate, I may call on you for the VAGcom to sort the running light out if i findout how to change them.

Ben,
It will probably be a paint burning smell just the new paint on the exhaust burning.
Thanks for asking the dealer, saved me a trip to my local dealers forcourt tomorrow to have a look and ask them.

Well when you have had as many set backs as me on this car you begin to wonder what next! i want to make sure its right as what could go wrong has done so far

Im sure im not the only one wondering these things in the future so it may help the frum  or not

Oh, and i have not driven it yet  and have fixed one rear end squeek already. (the spare wheel well strap catch moving on the boot carpet.)

I have had a couple of things missing the GTI manual holdall (do you still get these?) and the wire hook thing for removing the wheel bolt caps. Theres quite a few scratches too some i have managed to polish out others not so but im been gentle as the paints still newish im sure later i can sort them.

Snoops: As always, you open our eyes to lots of interesting facts and information. Now it is your turn to open that throttle. I fully understand how you feel as by now you probably have little or no confidence in VW and its dealers.
Go forth and enjoy the Blue Bell.

Snoopy

You've had a ridiculous wait and you just want everything to be perfect. Understood.

IMHO the GTI is about as perfect as you'll get at the moment but remember it also has some personality.
No car is 100% perfect and there is always something you 'have to get used to'.

Enjoy, and welcome to the club.

Snoopy

I got a vw leather holdall but not a GTI one... My dealer reckoned you don't get them anymore! (Ditto the top up oil)! Although he did give me some GTI mats gratis!

I don't think i have the 'wire hook thingy' either does anyone have a pic?

I too had a few stractches but managed to polish them out...

Snoopy - did you manage to get a look at the PDI report for the car?
I was just wondering, as I want to ask for mine!

Its all done on the computer now. If i had asked earlier then i could have. I was talking to a VW tec i know and he says they get a generic list for that model to check then fill the real one in on the computer and its sent straight to VW. So no real paper ones now. Im thinking of asking VWcs for a copy when they phone.
