Hi, after the R-tech remap, sure enough my clutch began to slip and i now have the accelerate really carefully . I kind of expected that. The guy from R-tech said replacing it with a brand new OEM clutch would be fine and have plenty of life in it, but ive heared of somebody remap a tdi and go through 3 clutches before uprating.
Do i get the standard clutch or should i bite the bullet and get an uprated clutch? Can anybody speak from experience?
Any chance the R32 clutch would fit?
Its a GT 130
thanks guys

i put a standard clutch in my remapped 130
20,000 miles later and no problems at all
the standard clutch seems to have plenty enough bite to hold the extra torque.
surely the clutch only wears when its slipping so its not too much of a issue as long as you respect it ??
someone correct me if im wrong.
-
Yeh i was told a standard would be fine by R-tech... but i mean if i put my foot to the floor will the "catchup effect" slip it or will i have to accelerate smoothly? How do you drive it? Can you literally slam the pedal to metal?
-
my cars on 120k its been remapped since 78k and its on the original clutch *touch wood*

Wow! How do you drive it mate? harsh or easy? smooth or "pedal slam"?
Don't get me wrong, my clutch is working and im sure i could make it last, but if i boot it itll slip, which kind of takes the point away of having the extra power!

Bit of everything

any other clutch experiences? reccomendations? surely this is rhyso's territory :P

Yep.
Got a spare £1000 for one?
Sachs uprated clutch - think its about £550 (I paid £465 before the recession)
DMF is about £200
Release bearing is £40
Labour - varies from £100 to £300
Result - no clutch slip in 30,000 miles of remapped abuse
-
Hmmmm.... i was hoping you'd say no need for an upgrade lol. But i suppose the better clutch would safeguard any future problems.
Guess its gonna be a situation that depends on my finances then!

Depends really - Steve has done 50K on a standard clutch with his remap
Nick @ R-Tech is fairly certain a standard clutch can take the abuse but I'm not 100% convinced on that in all honesty :undecided:
-
Well i believe the 130 and 150 clutch is the same (?), which tells me theres room for tolerance, but to what extent?
I think correct driving can make a standard clutch work fine, but then who wants to drive a remap correctly? :P

they are the same - both 240mm diameter which means we can't fit the G60 / VR6 setup which is considerably cheaper
Mine lasted 2K after it was first remapped :lipsrsealed:
-
2k?!
Now im scared to fit a standard clutch... hmmm
-
Standard clutch will take a remapped, it may wear out quicker than a upgraded one. may only last 80k instead of 100+
it only starts slipping once its worn down to the rivets.
Rhyso's must have been worn bad anyway and wouldn't have lasted much longer on a standard map
-
Excellent info guys :)
