Title: Audi TT intercooler venting... ?
Post by: Mr_Orange on 12 March 2010, 11:01
Anyone heard of or done this little tweak to their arch liner?
http://www.18turbo.com/ttvent.html
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2874318

Or a power drill and some fine mesh:

Can also be done for free with a stanley knife, a hair dryer and some spare time

Our intercooler is coming off soon for a clean out, so will be having a go then!

Don't know what if any the gains will be (+0.05bhp perhaps  ), but makes a lot of sense in terms of intercooler air flow.
Yet another simple & sensible tweak the Audis seem to have and not VW....  :undecided:

love the little car in the last photo siting on the pancake intercooler pipe

A mod thats been around for quite a bit.  I cant see any disadvantage to it at all, so i would say got for it mate.
I was going to do this but ended up 1 ripping the iner arce off then the bumper was off and 2 i put a FMIC on in the end :)

You can buy an arch liner with the vent built in now. It's used on the Canadian mk4.5 (facelift model)

Looks neat, but I'd just get the Stanley on the original one if I were doing it again

Just found some part numbers:
1JM809962A or
1J0809962A
M part number comes up on ECS website with an image.  Will be getting in touch with the friendly man at the parts desk...

Think it has to be the 1JM type to have the vents present and 1JM indicates a US part number.  Seen a post on ukmkiv referring to something on VW Mecanica Argentina: http://www.foro-clubdelgolf.com.ar/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10239&start=30
