Just out of curiosity more than anything else, does anyone know if you can get done by the police for driving with your front fogs on when its not foggy? Only asking because it was really foggy when I left for work this morning and after it had cleared I forgot to turn my fogs off and got flashed by a police car going the other way.
Anybody care to shed some light (excuse the pun!)
Whilst on the subject of lights i've got some for sale in the classifieds if anyone is interested (prices are negotiable!)

Obviously, driving with fog lights on, when it's not foggy is illegal.
Fogs are for when it's foggy or SERIOUSLY reduced visibility.

wish they would pull more people over for it, its so irritating and you look like a twit with them on in the daytime lol

£30 fine for driving with your fogs on when it's not foggy.
I like having my fog lights on because it makes the car look quite moody, although I'm not actually pathetic enough to have them on during the day
-
It is ilegal and I hope Len does not see this thread.

On some cars, they are labelled 'driving lights' and in Ireland you can get off the hook if you challenge it!
Unfortunately on mk3 golfs (and prob all VAGs) they are 'fog' lights.... with a squiggly fog picture below the switch.
They are handy for spotting potholes on the terrible irish roads :)

Illegal! I got stopped a night (not in the golf), had them on in the day for fog and forgot to switch them off, came on with the lights at night. Good job they just gave me a warning and didn't do any other checks as the mot was expired............

Thing is, with a VW you have to put the foglights on each time you turn on the lights, so the brain-dead owners choose to drive with them on when it's not foggy.
Perhaps if the fine was £500 it may stop people thinking it's 'cool'?
Although to be fair, fronts aren't as bad as rears.

Not on any of mine you never have to, iv had a mk 2, 2 mk 3's and 3 mk 4's, non have had to have fogs put on when i turn on the lights :undecided:?

i got pulled for this, but it was my hid kit....as my car ain't even got fogs
checked my car over, no probs went on my way.

No, I meant you have to conciously decide to put the foglights on AFTER turning on the lights.
The foglights also go OFF as you turn the lights off.
You can't 'forget' you have your foglights on...it's a concious movement to turn them on each and every time.

ahh yeah know what your were meaning now  yeah thats correct
-
some VAG have em on a different switch., MK1-2 Golf, Scirocco, MK1-3 Polo, early Passat, Corrado etc etc. so quite easy to forget you left em on. With a MK3 Golf tho, you have no excuse ;)
Agree with the above, peeps who drive with fogs on really get on me tits. Also is it me or has this got alot worse recent like, when I first started driving would only see this now & again, now over the last year or so seems everyone is at it?
-
tbh i really dont get dazzled by fog lights, whereas the blue/white hids + similar can really blind you, especially the range rover/ similar tall cars
-
i got pulled for this the other nite, and my car ain't got front fogs...........lol
-
people that drive with there fogs on wind me up! My gti aint got any  or a sunroof but I'm happy about that.
-
I don't mind most front fogs. The odd one might be aimed strangely and dazzle me but 90%+ don't affect me at all.

I'm blind in my left eye and seem to be attracted to lights, bit like a moth lol.

It is illegal when its not foggy and along with a fine they can choose to do you for 'driving with undue care and attention' for other road users if your really unlucky and give you 3 points.
-
driving with front fogs on in good visibility purposely equals a deserved £30 fine rightly so, and worse in the same class as someone with a burberry cap and a 15 year old mrs

Well said...
If it were me, and the driver said 'I hadn't noticed', I'd take that as an admission of driving with undue care and attention and issue points there and then. That would be well deserved too.

+1
I agree completely, but I also think that cars can look better with them on so I can understand why people do it....I just wish they wouldn't! It annoys the hell out of me
