Title: GT TDI 150 MPG
Post by: th3musicmak3r on 24 February 2010, 14:19
Hi All, I am getting around 30-40 mpg average ona full tank covering around 400miles is this about right? I do still need to change the fuel filter and MAF sensor. Does anyone know the part code for the 150 MAF sensor? and what VW will charge.

What tpye of journeys are you doing??

Short, start-stopping journeys that will be about right

Long distance you should be seeing 45+ easily

VW will charge around £90 for a MAF sensor on an exchange basis i.e you give your old one back

Can try GSF or Euro Car Parts - make sure its a genuine Bosch item

Mainly dual carrigeway??

150bhp is slightly different as it does hold power for longer but I'd change up by 3000rpm as the main torque band is between 1800rpm and 3000rpm

You'll notice when you change gear at apporx 3000rpm you'lll drop back to around 2000rpm which is in the meat of the torque band

I don't - just ask for Mass Air Flow sensor

Not very good really - ideally you should get it diagnosed before spending money out

yeah got it mate

I assume its fairly free flowing traffic on your journey or you start / stopping every few hundred yards??

I'd find someone local to you with VAGCOM / VCDS or you're quite close to PSI Tuning in Stoke.  Get someone to do live data logging on the car to confirm if the MAF is at fault as they don't always bring up a fault code

Ya its pretty free flowing. Steady between 40 and 60 got a fault code at the moment of 17965. Do you know the postcode for that place in stoke? I know neil_07 has got vag com i think i mite be taking a trip to him didnt think i would of needed to when i bought the reader but the fault code i think is a bit 2 vage

i get about 500 miles out of a tank but thats a real variation of driving, i work about 2 miles from where i live, so that will drain my fuel stop starting, but then i travel 145 miles to see my bf every other weekend, so thats mainly m1 miles, generally do about 80mph, and get 54-55 mpg... then my bf drives it and all my hard work of getting the mpg up is ruined

Oh no the mpg convo  really grinds my gears :)

I get a sh*ty 33mpg around town and on motorway trips I get between 45 to 49, 50mpg at a real push if i'm lucky.

MAF changed didn't make any difference, scanned up and no faults.
I'm gonna get a health check done by R-tech at some point just getting the peenies together.

Mate from a 150 you should be getting much better MPG from the runs you mentioned especially the dual carriage way doing 40-60mph.

Let us know how you get on.
