I have never bothered what petrol or diesel I have put into any of my cars over the last 20 odd years, its always been a case of pulling up at the nearest petrol station and filling it up with whatever.......I have seen the adverts saying this petrol will do this and this petrol will do that but always thought it was just marketing bullsh!t. After reading through various threads on here I decided to let the tank run down and give Shell V Power a go, just to see for myself.
I have a 2001 {y reg} 1.8T AUM, re-mapped to 220 something bhp {according to the chap I got it off}, from the first test drive, driving it home and running about in it for the last month or so I have not been happy with 2nd and 3rd gear when accelerating.......just seems like there's nothing there until you hit 2500 to 3000 revs, its hard to explain but it just didn't feel right....
So this morning I filled it up was Shell V Power, it feels like the engine fairies have been and put me a new engine in.........Throttle response is definitely smoother, the revs are dropping down quicker when changing gear {before they seemed to hang around the 3000+ rev mark for a split second before dropping}, when you put you foot down the response is now instant and puts a daft grin on your face and i`m pretty sure its quieter, when I say quieter it seems to tick over a lot smoother ........I for one will be using Shell V power from now on and I didn't think that I would notice any difference.........

thats because higher octane fuel allows advance timing and is best-est beer budies with the knock sensor
-
also you say nothing seems to happen until 2500-3000 rpm, and it will feel like that as thats when you turbo starts kicking in.
-
also most cars are mapped to run on super unleaded (97ron or higher)
and no power before 2.5k welcome to turbo lag. (or as honda owners know it - the rubbish 3/4s of the rev range )

No, like I said its hard to explain.....I know when the turbo kicks in.......It just felt crap, it wasn't smooth, sort of hesitant between 1500 & 2500 revs, it felt like it stopped for a split second.......Now its feels nice and smooth with no hesitation......

You should uprate that crap 3bar FBR to a 4 or 5 one, the smoothness then is a huge hope, feels like the spool is quicker as well as responsive, specially when you can pick them uup for £25+

LOL........Had quite a few cars with turbos, first was the wife's Escort RS back in about 1988 the last being a Discovery TD5 that I have now {but you cant really count that}
-
Mine didn't like owt but 95 RON (AGU 1.8t), tried vpower, tesco 99 etc.. engine was louder/vibrated more, MPG down, performance about the same.
Turns out it has a 95 ron map on (APR map) and it does indeed run sweeter with 95ron cheapofuel :D
Horses for courses :)

Try giving your throttle body a good clean mate, this will probably help.

And check for boost leaks and a split diverter valve. Common issues with 1.8T

You don't really need more than the 3 bar FPR unless you are running mega boost if it's mapped properly

The cars running perfect now with the V Power petrol....... I am genuinely gobsmacked at the difference its made, I didn't think it would have made any "noticeable" difference whatsoever .....
-
If your going to run on V Power all the time get a shell reward card, after a few months theywill upgrade the standard one to the V power one if you fill up with v power enough so then you get doublepoints which then turns into money off fuel vouchers.

I had mine remapped in nov last year at had 210bhp on the dyno using asda 95 ron. Went back last weekend after using tesco super 99 ron and got 220bhp  so it must be better!

Ummm.... No. The fact it was -3c probably had more to do with extra horses also Nick has posted that the dyno was reading high for some of the cars
-
yeah but not mine. the temp wasn't that much different in november.
-
i have just filled up with 58quids worth of v power fuel. and it does seem better response on throttle. i also have the drivers reward card. :D V-POWER FTW!!

I really want to use V-Power all time but the MPG difference seems to massive between 95ron.

good video that rich!

I`m finding that i`m getting better miles per gallon with V Power....... normal petrol I mainly got around 26 to 32 mpg pottering about, over the last few days my average is 34 mpg with the V power.....drives really smooth now, pity its going in the summer.......Told my daughter if she passes her test 1st time she can have it.
-
I also found v-power made a noticalbe difference in performance, didnt have much increase in mpg but pulled slightly better through the rev range, only problem is the nearest shell garage in 15 miles from me :(
So dont fill up with it that often.
-
its just in your head, i don't think it really do any wonders :lipsrsealed:
i've tried tesco 99, bp ultimate, v-power, ron95 and i dont feel any difference, so stick to tesco 95 and after every 3-4 tanks of it, i go for 99 to clean engine cause its high-octane
-
Think it varies from engine to engine mate, a know a few people who have definatly noticed a difference and others who havnt. In theory it should give a very slight increase in engine runnning due the higher octane rating. But i think some engines like it and some dont

Indeed. Its a must if you run a big turbo/ high performance engine
