Now that the photos are starting to emerge from the Golf R from the UK and Germany, I've noticed something else that we miss out on.
If you look at my pictures below, you'll see that the Germans get a nice looking aluminium footrest for their left foot, and we in the UK get a naff plastic chunk!
I remember a while back the DSG owners in the MK5 forums were seeking a cover for their UK cars, and a chap on the forum called Gulfstream11 produced some with a GTI logo on it - which looks very OEM.
I contacted him the other day, and asked him about making me one with an R logo on it. I found a decent photo of the new style R logo and he's imported it to Autocad and can hopefully have it laser cut in the next week or so. Its under £20 and as you can see from the photo of Hurdy's DSG GTI - it makes a big difference! Well worth it IMHO.

And here's a photo of AlanD's manual one... with a bit of red tape stuck in behind the GTI logo. Looks

Not keen on the red tape. Looks out of place next to the other pedals.

OSIR will probably be doing one soon as well, all Gulf's stuff is great, its just another option.
Here is my osir one in my Mk 5 not the best pic but you also get the plastic insert.

As long as I have a pair of gleaming white socks on under them!
I know what you're saying, but its a foot rest that no-one is going to see! I think the £20 one will do me fine

PM Gulfstream11 - and he can make one up for you.
He said around £20 - so it might be slightly more / less?

Thank you.
Will keep you posted.

Found them on Ebay aswell. You're given the option of a drilled pedal so you can bolt it to the foot rest or a non drilled pedal so you can stick it. I would personally prefer the non drilled and stick it with tape but would always be worried they came loose regardless of the quality of double sided tape. Any ideas???

Just went and bought the foot rest pedal that Osir offers. Abit more expensive (£55 ish) but I like the fact that it looks so much like the other pedals with the black groove inserty bits. I've got all these bits and pices for my car and no car to put them on yet   Ah well it's good to be organised.
-
See it as foreplay....

Got one of gulfstreams in my mk5 & the seat badge inserts & there great quality & i think look o.e.

So it has the black rubber inserts in that one the same as the other pedals, yes?

Another useful retrofit.
I think I might be spending the first year retrofitting the car.
What fun!

Yes, i agree. RHD models cannot have the LHD footrest as the centre bulkhead eats into the footwell. What a pity!!

Yeah Snoopy, it looks identical to the accelerator pedal. I've not got my car yet to fit it but it looks the business.
-
Trying to find the OSIR footrest, but cant seem to find a price of around £55 for it, anyone got any help or know where to buy ?
-
I got my R one from Gulf the other day... looks top notch.
I have a little pile here of things that I have to fit to my car on day 1!
-
Just ordered one, £49 delivered to the UK

I got a GTD one from Gulf a few weeks ago, 16 or 17 quid iirc.

I personally had a look at that one, and although I wanted to support the guy in these forums, I felt the OSIR looked great, get great reviews, and most importantly are the closest match to my other pedals. Plus I'm a great believer in that you get what you pay for.

True... but for me £17 for a footrest that looks almost the same as the OEM one is good enough!
An exact match for £50 is nice, but a tad overpriced for what it is. Call me cheap if you like - but since it serves no real purpose other than cosmetic - £50 is too much for me!

Thats true also, but it also serves the purpose that I can say my willy is bigger than yours.

If I am wrong, would it be possible for you to give me details, please?
Thanks.

Not sure Ben, you would have to ask. The site I got it from is Parts4euro.com

Nah mate, they marked it down to only a few Hong Kong $ and marked as gift.
-
Kev: It would also look nice to have a bit of metal on the 'footrest' to the right of the accelerator pedal. What do you think?
-

Maybe, but personally I think that would be a bit too much down there. For me, the left footrest serves a purpose as it stops the carpety bit getting dirty and scuffed, your right foot never leaves the accellerator (unless you got cruise control) so as you say it would only be to look nice, but for me it would be a bit too much.
-

I have cruise, that is why I thought it would be good for me.

Check it out, you'd have to find someone that makes one.

Hi Gulfstream11:
Would it be possible for you to do both right and left footrests for a manual Mk6 GTi?
I am interested in these as a pair and would also like the non-screw versions.
Thanks.
