Title: MATT BLACK
Post by: DL golf on 05 January 2010, 04:06
Hi guys,
I have seen this in www.avus-performance.com (German car's tuner). They offer this "matt black" finish on their car. They have done it on a TTRS & it looks real mean. Cost is Euro 2,000. Can anybody tell me what is this "matt black" finish & is it some sort of vinyl coating on it? Maintenance wise, is it a pain?
Appreciate very much for your input & have a nice day to you all!

Looking at the website I think it is a vinyl wrap. Especially when you look at the cost. As for maintenance I don't know. IMO I think it looks awful.

It is vinyl wrap and it does look awful. Why would you want to spend £2000 making your car look like a blackboard?

They get the matt finish by adjusting the  amount and type of lacquer the put on to car after the final paint is applied

I can think of so many better things to spend £2k on but if you like the finish then go for it. Each to their own and all that, I think its horid . .

+1 for black roof or bonnet etc, or for advertising. Or even for paint protection with clear vinyl. Having a matt black car is a bit like having black wheels - to make it a bit different.

matt black will be the "bling colour" this year like the white was b4.  it aint no black board- think more stealth bomber and you're there.   it aint for normal cars, only fast motors.  check out the audi rs5 -leeked pics which are pretty cool imo.  i think it only works in certain cars.  a ferrari 430 may look a bit faeces i think, so would a golf.
i bet in the future the "in " colour is aluminium...

Is just the "in thing" at the moment & don't know how long it will last. I posted this because I was just being curious. Best is just stick to what ever colours they offer & choose one you fancy. Yes, this matt black colour would only suit certain cars. For 2,000 Euro, I think is better off saving the $ for something else.
