Just fitted my RNS510 which was very easy and took less than 10 minutes thanks to Aidy's step by step guide. My heater controls work but the only function on the MFSW that works is the volume and my reverse camera no longer works which I assume can both be rectified by my local dealer using VAGCOM? The main screen is red and the phone screen is green does anyone know if I can get this can be set so that it is black like my RCD510? also I have the RCD510 available if anyone is looking to buy one

VW should be able to recode however their system isn't as flexible as VAGCOM
RVC can be re enabled byte 3 bit 6
You can't change the phone panel, however you can change the overall colour scheme to any of the three posted on this http://vwnavi.com/forums/showthread.php?p=44866 (http://vwnavi.com/forums/showthread.php?p=44866) byte 7 bit 4 & 5
Think you also have to enable BAP on the RNS for the MFD byte 7 bit 7
You need to enable byte 7 bit 0 for the MFSW controls

Isn't there 2 versions of the RNS510? One with the rear view camera and one without.
-
As far as I know you have (in Holland) to order it seperately.......so I did

There's more than one version of the RCD510 for use with and without camera, DAB. But there's only one RNS510 as far as I know.

Thats what I thought too! I'm keeping my fingers crossed my reverse cam will work with my current RNS510.
The only thing that puzzles me is that if you buy an RCD510 with DAB - the DAB is built into the unit.
If you buy an RNS510 with DAB - does it come as a seperate module?

The RNS doesn't have a DAB option. Your RNS510 will work with the camera - might just need tweaking with VAG-COM. Some more details here:

The RCD510 and the RNS510 can only Have one or the other DAB Module or Camera atatched to it, Not enough skts at rear of unit to atatch both, stupid i Know but thats the way it is unless the latest Versions have now got extra skts ??.
There Maybe a after market Gismo outthere that will make the RNS510 & RCD510 work with both ??? Dunno, maybe someone Does.

I don't have the slightest interest in having a DAB option... but on VW.com you can spec a car with an RNS510 and DAB. You can only have a reverse cam OR DAB though.

You could well be right. I was only going on this aftermarket piece of kit that had different part numbers for RNS510 with and without rear view cameras.

My local VW dealer are going to have a go at it this week, I am basically not able to use the MFSW, the reverse camera or have any of the info from the head unit displayed in the MFD

Needs coding with VagCom, i had the same problem when i fitted mine mate. Somebody off the mk5golfgti forum did it for me for free, stealers wanted the car for half a day at £75 + VAT per hour IIRC. It only takes 10mins todo

Hi Aidy, do you know exactly what needs coding as my local dealer are doing me a favour (it is Xmas!) and I want them to get it right. Thanks

TBH mate I'm not to sure, the lad who I had do it had done it before. My dealer didn't have a clue what I was talking about. I'll have a look and see if I can find anything for you pal

Hmm, I didn't notice any PM other than your first contact. I noticed that you had successfully installed your RNS as well as trying to establish contact with someone with a vag com.
What I did was using latest 908 software on Vag-Com, got into Nav module 37.
and changed the long code to something suitable for my car. 04010400040000A200
you can do it in code -07, where you will find a line with a lot of boxes. Each box represent 2 digits of the long code (9boxes). when you place the mouse pointer over each box, a dialogue box appears giving you various options. like sound system, speaker monitoring, etc. at the end, you need to enable BAP function. I believe this enable the RNS to talk to the MFSW and DIS
the long code I chose in the end correspond to my car configuration., 160 hp, MFSW, non VW sound system(I don't have Dynaudio) etc. when done, press do it and its coded.
I took a photo of each crucial step with my cam/phone so that I could keep track in case I need to backtrack.

Just found that in my inbox on VWNAVI, maybe it will help
-
Thanks, I don't understand any of that but I am sure it will help
-
Let me know how you get on buddy, if they try charging you tell them to stuck it
-
I already posted at the top of the first page what needs to be coded
Don't take a longcoded string from another car unless it has the same options as yours
