Ok, winter months are driving me up the wall, so gonna grab some mud flaps to help a bit with the crap that gets thrown up on the car.
Anyone know how much they cost for the mk6 ? I cant seem to find a price anywhere for them.

Got mine from ebay for half price, they are the VW 1's easy to fit. I would remove each wheel when fitting makes life that much easier. Think I paid about £50 inc postagw

Can you remember yout item number ?

Interesting, my car actually came with the mud flaps mounted (front, not back). I guess the Swedish winter make them standard. First snow today
-
I remember with the ED30 you could get front mud flaps, but not rear as the rear bumper was different to any other Golf.
You'll probably find its the same with the MK6 GTI - its bumper will be different and won't fit the regular Golf mudflaps.

Tell me about it, the ones on ebay are VW and less than half that price so will probably grab them, will be after xmas now tho.

Agreed. Mudflaps just do not make sense, either financially or aesthetically. If the roads are dirty enough for them to protect the lower part of the doors (which I'm sure they do) then the rest of the car is going to get filthy anyway from lorry spray, etc.

Well thats it, some things you cant control (lorry spray etc) but some things we can try and prevent like road splashes on up the door so the guards should help with that. In the winter months I dont think those are the months you show a car off anyway, the late warm summer nights when it gets dark at 11pm etc is the evenings you show the car off and I'll take the guards back off in those months anyway.
-
I'd think carefully about mudflaps, especially on the front where, iirc, they're mated against metal bodywork and not the plastic of the rear bumper. The Mk3 I traded in had incredible rot in just this location - the mud, water, salt, leaves and crap had sat there between them for years. Just a thought.

I'll get the Karsher right in there, dont you worry.

Kev they are listed for gti on VW Website ? or did you already know that and its me not keeping up
Rear Mudflaps
£46.00 RRP
Part No. 5K0075105
The shaped-to-fit mud flaps are extremely hard-wearing and durable. They protect the underbody, the side sills and the doors from heavy soiling.Damage from road chippings is reduced and spray minimised. The properties of the temperature-resistant material have been tested under extreme driving conditions. Colour: Black.

To fix these properly you do need to put a couple of holes in the car, you might want to re think the put on take off bit..

Nope I missed that, nice find mate, thanks.

do you need to drill the metal wing or just the plastic arch lining?
I'm thinking about getting some front mudguards to keep the stone chips down as much as possible!!
-
Holy thread revival
You only need to make holes on the bottom of the arch liner IIRC. I bought a set for the wifes Mk6, read the instructions and never fitted them as went into CBA'd mode over taking the wheels off.

Can't be arsed mode
only the wifes car anyway

For Heaven's sake why do people bother with these stupid rubber/plastic appendages is beyond sanity or logic. They are ugly, date the car and the attitude of the driver, look vile and protect a minuscule portion of the car. A very silly purchase.

The minuscule portion of the car that they do protect is the part that is most susceptible to gravel rash over time. Maybe in towns where speeds are low, or motorways where the surface is fairly clean this would not be an issue, but out in open glorious countryside it is something to consider.
Having said that, mine are still in there box on my bench, and have been since March. One day I'll fit them. One day.

Agreed they look horid.

So does a chipped rear bumper and both sides of the car covered in stone chips and assorted detritus.
I'd always run them through choice...but if you are some city dweller where road speeds rarely exceed 15 MPH, then I guess it's a moot point.
-
I find it unreal how dirty the sides of the mk6 get because of spray from the front wheels. So i can understand why people are fitting mudflaps as every time it rains or the roads are damp i go 'oh nooooo'
-
I've got front flaps now.
-
It all depends on how long you keep your cars which most of you guys don't keep them that long?
If you don't mind pebble dashed sills then don't fit them, yes they do look a bit better without them its drivers choice.
-
Keith do they help reduce the spray up the side much as mines the same colour as yours and its always covered if its damp out there.
-
my car has about 160 miles on the clock is and is scruffy up the sides already despite it being bone dry.
i use my car as a toy and spend most my driving in the country B roads. as others have said if it live in the town all the time then maybe they're not needed but the road surface on british B roads is a joke.
my last car was peppered down the side skirts and really bad over the rear arch due to stones from the front wheels.
i agree the rear ones do look pretty ugly but the front ones are very discreet IMO and match the side skirt well.
I will be fitting a set of front ones sooner or later as i bought this car as a long term keeper and don't want the lower sides wrecked with tar and stone chips.
-
Well it will look even odder if you only fit front mud flaps.
-
At least cars with rear mud flaps possibly don't chuck out stones onto the cars behind. How considerate.
-
Front flaps are easy to fit, I did mine in 10 mins flat, they help keep the sides of your car and door mirrors cleaner for longer, a must if you do rural driving IMHO
-
Well it will look even odder if you only fit front mud flaps.
I've seen a few mk6 golfs with just the front ones fitted and they're barely noticeable at all and like i said before match the black plastic side skirts anyway.
i would say fitting front only is far more common than fitting a full set
-
It depends a fair bit on the colour of the car really. On my battleship grey car you can hardly see the front flaps, on other colours they may look more obvious.
The first ever mk6 GTI I took out for a test drive had flaps all round. The fronts looked fine but the rears looked like Dumbo. The rears probably look okay with wide, low offset alloys to balance the lines out a bit, but on the 17'' Monza equipped car that I tested two and a bit years ago they just didn't look right and took away the sportiness of the car.
-
yep i agree - i think the rear ones look a bit clumsy.
there was a red GTD and a white white GTI demo at VW garage i bought mine with front mud flaps on only and i didn't think they spoiled the look of the car at all.
i bought some on ebay last night anyway for £36 or something
-
£65 all in, from dealer. front and rear.
-
the other big benefit is they stop all the tar being chucked up the side of the car over the summer, does my head in getting it off my lovely shiny red paintwork. They don't look bad on my red GTD, IMHO opinion but the previous owner had them fitted so they were a no cost option to me, they also had headlight protectors fitted, now they are very UGLY and will come off as soon as I can be bothered to get the front bumper off....
-
i fitted mine on wed night. pretty straight forward.
IMO they don't look out of place at all

Ken
I think that looks spot on - I've decided I'm going to get a set of fronts as my sides are always getting grubby - will see if it makes a difference
